Mechanical Jigging Big Kingfish- Jetskis Are Made for This!
We hit the depths with some relatively large jigs and some mechanical jigging to see what we could get. We found a LOT of fish! This video is just some of the highlights of an excellent day's fishing. Thanks to my fishing buddies on this day: Mihia and Fred.
One of my fishing buddies got the mother lode with two very decent Yellowtail Kingfish. There were a lot of these fish that were undersize or just over legal length, and they were all competing for our jigs with the large numbers of Amberjack in the area. All round it was a good way to spend a day offshore on our fishing PWCs.

He did really well! His ski was for sale a couple of weeks ago but I think he's now convinced to keep it! :)
That was busy fishing trip, great workout. Looked like the wind settled a little later on. Cheers for sharing the video Paul 👍

Was wondering if you've a video about clothing for skis?
I haven’t shot one as such, mainly as different places need different levels of protection. FYI I generally use one of my Jetcast Sunshirts on the bottom layer, a JetPilot Tour Jacket over the top , and Sharkskin lightweight pants. The shoes are Quicksilver water shoes. I also have thick Sharkskin thermal socks which are good for 3/4 of the year. I may add a lightweight wetsuit vest in the depths of our mild winter! The Jetcast sunshirt is awesome. Having a built in facemask just makes things so much easier. It also doesn't make me feel like I am being waterboarded like a major brand I use to own did every time I got a drenching!

Thanks Mark. Yes not bad. I still reckon the Shimano Ocea jigger reel feels a bit smoother, plus it has ess gadgets to fail on it! But thought it was a great deal at the time for the price so I couldn't pass up. Seems to work pretty well so far. And nobody is offering me any reel sponsorships so I have no brand allegiance!
Great video Paul! Looks Like your friends might have to share some of their filets with you lol. I have a question what do u use all the rubber bands for on the left handle?
Cheers Charles! I was out-fished for sure! But not too worried and I was going away the next day and didn’t want too much fish to clean and freeze! The rubber bands I use when attaching live bait to a hook. I use a slip knot to attach the rubber band to a hook, then use a bait needle to pull a rubber band through the bait’s nose, threading it back into the hook. I didn’t use live bait on this trip.

Thanks. The red ski is a Yamaha FXSVHO 2018 model. Interesting this guy had this ski up for sale for a very low price and had no interest. After this trip, he’s decided not to sell! :) Don't blame him!

Mine is a 2023. They can run for 1000hrs plus as long as they are used, serviced, and cared for
Nice Video Paul. Looks like you guys had great fun and caught well. I have personally never caught a AJ or Kingy yet. What is your jig setup? rod and reel?
Hi Mark. The rod i this video is a Shimano Grappler type-J PE4. The reel is a Daiwa Lexa 400P. I got the reel extra cheap in an overseas shop, but I had to have it converted it to the high speed gear as I couldn't stand how slow a wind it had! My other jig rod is a Ocean's Legacy Slow Elements PE2-3 spiral wrap with a Shimano Ocea Jigger 1500HG. The Lexa has a much higher drag rating than the Ocea. Its also a much smaller/lower profile than an equivalent drag model of Ocea (like a 2000 or 4000). The line capacity on the Lexa is limited however, so you wouldn't want to fish too much more depth than we were (85-100M) on the Lexa. I love overheads for jigging. I can't really ever see myself using a spinning reel for jigging. It just doesn't seem right! Plus the overheads are absolutely awesome for float-lining for snapper. With either of these you get a rod that does two things really well. I would really recommend something similar to anybody looking. The best feature you can also have is the auto-engage when starting to retrieve after a drop. I also prefer the star drag over the lever drag as its always on and you do not have to engage like a lever drag.
