Shark Skin Inspires Several Human Innovations

  • Dermal denticles are an extremely effective adaptation that provide so many benefits to sharks.
Dermal denticles give a thicker layer of protection to sharks, making it harder for predators to bite through their skin. Additionally, the shape of the denticles will deter microorganisms from latching on to and building up on a shark's skin. Dermal denticles are so unique that they have inspired a lot of biomimicry from swimsuit designs to making boats faster. Shark skin was even used as sandpaper way before the manufactured kind we use today.
So who's ready to evolve to have teeth skin so we can live in the ocean?
Want to learn more about other adaptations humans would need to live underwater? Check out our collab with ‪@WhatIfScienceShow‬ for World Ocean Day on RUclips.

Fun fact “demodenticals” basically means “teeth-skin” in Ancient Greek. They are named this cause up close they actually look like rows of teeth

Shark skin doesn't just feel like sandpaper, during the middle ages, it was actually used like it too

Dolphins are mammals they evolve on land and then move into water. Sharks are fish they evolve in water I would assume their design would suit their habitat much better than a land creature which has a lot of evolution to catch-up

Fun fact: dolphin skins used to be used as profilactics because of their natural smoothness.

Wed simply be dolphins. If we adapted to live in the ocean we wouldnt be nearly as advanced as we are today due to very obvious bodily disadvantages. Wed also probably be the weakest out of that family too
