  • Welcome back on Eurostar's current longest direct full time service. Amsterdam to London. Along the way we call at Rotterdam, Brussels Midi, Lille Europe and onwards to London St Pancras.
    A slightly longer journey time by 7 minutes, compared to the timetable due to a little congestion alongside the high speed line, but once again overall the journey between Amsterdam and London was a simple one with all passport checks complete in Amsterdam and then walking off as a domestic passenger in St Pancras in central London makes this train journey very attractive.
    With a journey time of just over 4 hours and 4 direct trains per day, you can see why Eurostar want to keep expanding this route in the future.

    why does the train stop for almost 20 minutes in brussels? that defeats the purpose of a high speed train, doesn't it?

    • @2011pendolino
      @2011pendolino  Год назад

      It stops because of pathing through the Brussels area to align with the ex Thalys (now Eurostar). The crew also swap here for a Dutch or Belgium crew so it allows for that to take place. 20 minutes is really nothing… it’s now 4 hours from London to Amsterdam which is incredible considering the direct link didn’t exist 6 years ago!!

      @@2011pendolino pretty sure the thalys does a crew change as well and only stops for a few minutes. And it is not much overall, but it still matters as nowadays taking the thalys to brussels and then the eurostar to london is faster and cheaper (was wondering why it was the case).

      @@daanwolters3751 So on the way back from Amsterdam, we have a Dutch / Belgium crew, they change at Brussels. Also, under UK requirements the train has to be checked and secured before entering the Channel Tunnel. This is also done in Brussels, also more passengers join at Brussels.
      Eurostar and Thalys have the same journey time between Amsterdam and Brussels - around 1 hour 50 minutes. Eurostar then requires at least a 45 minute check in window so this train has the advance of you completing that in Amsterdam or Rotterdam. Happy to help further if needed. I’m no expert but have used this service a lot

      @@2011pendolinothe check actually happens beforehand in amsterdam or in which station you get on. It was only at the stsrt that passengers where checked in Brussels. Well the travel time to arrive in brussels is the same, but that does not take the waiting time into account. If i book on the internet now, it is 20 minutes faster to tske the eurostar from amsterdam, but the time to get trough security is not included, while the time to get trough security is included if i take the thalys first and then the eurostar. So only if i can clear the security in amsterdam in 20 minutes or less, the eurostar is faster. And again the train is not checked in brussels only the passengers who embark in Brussels, but that happens beforehand.
