Great song, I remember hearing this in the driver's-ed car in the summer of '73 and becoming a Slade fan from then on. I'm wondering why this wasn't performed "live" like most of the other acts were on here. Anyway, saw saw them live in a small theater in 1975 here in Indianapolis on the "In Flame" tour. Fantastic memories!
LUUUUV me some Slade! This was one of 12 consecutive Top 5 records they had in the UK. (Including six #1s!) This only got to UK#2, stopped only by Chuck Berry's Ding-A-Ling. THE WORLD NEEDS MORE SLADE!!!🤘✌👍
@@monsterpopMusicFactory You're right.. I stand corrected. They should have been huge in the US. I'm the only person that I know of who had the Slade Alive album. An absolute killer.
It would be soo awesome if there was another TV channel that would operate just like the midnight special was Giving young talent a chance to get recognized
Back then on Friday nights at 10:30 on channel 7 here in Chicago they had on in concert also I believe it was on channel 2 here in Chicago downtown kirchner's Rock concert I'm sure it was telecast all over the country back then in the mid 70s
@@greg7656 it's not the same, doesn't have the same vibe. it was exciting tuning in and checking out new upcoming bands rock out on Midnight Special and Don Kirchner
Back when rock bands could sing about how young a girl is! Also I didn't know lipsyncing on Midnight Special had started this early. I thought it was something that began in the later seasons.
On Midnight Special it was up to the band (unlike ToTP which forced everyone to lip sync). There are lots of live Midnight Special performances that were after this one, off the top of my head Smokin’ In The Boys Room from 74 comes to mind
The strange thing about this performance is that Holder isn't lip syncing. He's actually singing live...he's just singing OVER the studio recording. The instruments aren't live, that is also the studio recording. Not sure why it would be done that way, but that definitely appears to be what is happening here.
SGs must’ve been really popular back then. There was another band just on where the guitarist had one. But I think Eddie Van Halen used maybe modified Stratocasters early on and then he came out with his own guitar model later - maybe he called them the “Wolfgang” after his son? Flying Vs were popular for awhile and of course Les Pauls have always been popular. But it’s interesting seeing what guitars are popular during different eras. (Wolf is actually a terrific guitarist himself. I watched a couple of his videos. His music is different than Eddie’s was which is fine. It’s not exactly my cup of tea but his guitar playing is excellent.)
In 1983 Quiet Riot covered Slade's 1973 hit, "Cum on Feel the Noize" and took it into the Top Ten. The lads were from Wolverhampton and knew how to excite the audience.
I think it’s in 4/4 but my brain is hearing this double-time thing, and it must be a major key. But I don’t think I’ve ever heard this song before. I heard of the band. But their costumes are like a “happy” version of KISS maybe. Not quite as dark in other words.
Wow never knew Slade had so many great songs & that they were covered. This song was covered by Britny Fox! That’s the only way I knew it & thought it was a B.F. original! Quiet Riot got famous from covering Slade songs too!
A much, much better live band than many people would imagine. Saw them play a killer set at the Lincoln Festival. (Just a pity Dave Hill has always looked a complete wally!!)
This just in..."Super Yob" spotted on The Midnight Special. I saw this, the night it aired. Dave is like a fishing lure for the band and the quest to be rock & roll fishers of men. In America they either loved him or threw cabbage at him. In either case, he succeeded in selling the act. I was into them when they were the world's loudest pub band with "Slade Alive". Champion!
Too bad this version is with them lip syncing. They were one of favorite bands in the mid 70's. I did get the chance to see them in a concert in CT back then where they were an opening act for one hit wonders, Brownville Station. They were great, but nobody there seemed to really appreciate them.
God bless The Wolfman I never realized as a 70s kid just how much new music this show introduced to America....it would have been heavy to have an early Kate Bush on here.....
I've been a fan since '72, Jim Lea is one of my favorite bassists of the era. Being a Slade fan in the USA is a lonely business. You are absolutely correct Dave Hills over the top outfits and antics put off my friends.
At school, older boys used to take the mickey out of boys like me who liked Slade, Sweet and Gary Glitter, instead of "serious" music like Pink Floyd and Deep Purple. 50 years later, I'd still rather listen to Slade, Sweet and Gary Glitter.
Slade one of my fave groups in the 70's....influenced many US groups including Kiss ....still have their greatest hits cd in my car...along with T Rex Electric Warrior... Hamilton, Canada...
Imagine you're a bloke who's just been through WW2, come home, had a family, and you're about 50-odd years old. You come in from a day on the graft, sit down with your sausage sarnie and a brown ale, turn on the box and see Dave Hill ponce about in his gold-lame onesie.....!
Have many times wondered what it was like for still youngish WW2 veterans to behold glam rock and see their five year old grandchildren going nuts to Top Of The Pops. I was one such five-year-old. I'd like to think the elders were happy to see us happy and in peacetime. But if your best mate had been "Lost at sea" (is there a worse three words than that?) in '43, or you'd survived a Japanese POW camp, witnessed the Blitz (or Dresden) I guess you'd watch Slade and wonder what had happened to the world. Slade always put on a spectacle.
Thanks for posting this. Slade are legendary. I wish they were a bit more popular in the states.
Noddy Rulez!!!! You can definitely see who influenced KISS
TJane - most favourite song in my teenager years - Super voice
I wish I appreciated these guys back then. Tbh I never really was exposed to their music back then. Appreciating them now!

One of my favorite bands, you can always GET DOWN AND GET WITH THEM.
One of my all time favorite songs. Noddy had such a unique voice.
Revisit Slade Alive: great stuff!
Such a great song
Fun song . If you like this check out their Winterland San Francisco concert as well .
So British, about 2 years ahead of their time. Great band
Однажды услышав вокал Нодди Холдера, ты уже его не спутаешь ни с кем, всю оставшуюся жизнь! Slade Forever!
big fan and total glam rock gods
Stomp Your Hands and Clap Your Feet was my introduction to this group. I learned some of it on bass. Very original rock and roll.

Насколько мощнейший Голос у Нодди - поёт не напрягаясь , Лепс отдыхает вместе с понтами .

Although I loved Slade, I also kind of wish Noddy had gone to front AC/DC, that voice was made for it.
I thought the old grey whistle test was a live show? I see no guitar cords
sounds like a vocal overdub ?
English ACDC
Looks like Ace Frehley and David Bowie had a love child.
Definitely lipsyncing.....no mics on drums and percussion in the track..Noddy singing along with his vocal track...but great nonetheless
The Britney Fox version is way better
WONDERFUL!!! Please post ALL the Slade performances you have!! 👏👏👏❤❤❤
Do we still do it, Everyday and My Friend Stan from 74 would be golden
@@alanwhitney3263 - They did some nice ballads too. Several groups covered their songs.
Slade and T-Rex were some of the original Glam rockers! I stole both their albums from my older sister.
😂👍
This song was really rocking and it still does even 50 years later! Loved Noddy's raw voice. ❤🇫🇷
Man you can hear the influence on this particular cut Slade would have on Cheap Trick's early stuff. Glam power pop here. Love it.
You sure can!
For sure! There's also some Kiss songs that I can hear the Slade influence
Yea!! I here some Sweet band also
Cheap Trick covers "When the Lights are Out". Love both bands
Yes, even thst opening drumming sounds like Bun E. Carlos
Their outfits were crazy!!
I love those platform shoes!!
Happy Friday 🥳 thank you for sharing!
One of the most underrated bands of the 70’s. They were huge in Europe and England, but just never could quite break the U.S. market
Ironically their biggest US fans would take their sound to the bank -- KISS
In 1983 Quiet Riot covered Slade's 1973 hit, "Cum on Feel the Noize" and took it into the Top Ten. The lads were from Wolverhampton and knew how to excite the audience.
Lead guitarist can play his ass off , but he must've cut his bangs while tripping. I know from experience ✌
Gene admitted that these guys were an influence on early Kiss. He DJ'd some rock station years ago and played a Slade track. Pretty cool.
@@johnned4848 KISS? Whoop de doo...
Wonderful stuff; and not a 'Cupasoup' in sight.
This doesn't sound live, which is a shame as they were a great live band. Still love Slade though!
Yeah, either 2 Noddy's are singing (and theres no second Noddy on stage) or its a tape. Oh, hang on, the fade out.....its a tape 😂
sounds like miming with a live vocal on top, hence the sound of two noddys
:D
Noddy is singing live over the record.
America was not ready for Dave Hill!

They would have crapped in their gospel knickers
That one was lip synced! seen them live in Memphis in 74 opened for Robin Trower, they were pretty good live!

These guys were obviously an influence on hair metal for better or worse, but they had far more musicality and real talent than any of those bands.
Slade was my first concert, 4-19-73 at Warren Packard Music Hall. 14-year-old me was in heaven.
Saw a lot of good shows there!
The wardrobe totally makes this song.
