Her ultimate love was defo Tahwan. Even though she also loved Wang yu, it seemed like her love for him was built from admiration and there were no room for mistakes. But Tahwan really tried her patience lol... even though there were many moments he messed up and it felt like she wouldn't forgive him (even when he betrayed her before and even killed Wang yu) she ultimately did. That alone reveals the love she had for him in heart long before she even noticed. She finally completely shows her heart at the end scene when Tahwan was dying and i could tell from her reaction it felt like she lost her soul mate.

This is by far my favorite Korean historical drama. Seung Nyang is such a great character - super tough, brilliant and beautiful, and Ha Ji Won plays her to perfection.
No matter how many times I've watched Empress Ki, my heart still breaks for Ta Hwan and I cry about his character so many times. He truly had nobody, I think his anger towards Wang Yu was also because of how loved Wang Yu he was. Wang Yu always had an army ready to rally with him and die for him. Whereas Ta Hwan had none and he was aware of this. The people he's known his entire life, were just snakes in the grass waiting to strike. You don't have to imagine how worthless and unlovable he felt, you could see it every time he broke down crying. He just wanted to be loved. Because he was battling with self worth, feeling that he was second to Wang Yu in Nyang's heart broke him even more. Only when he was on his deathbed did he learn he was loved and then he died. Ta Hwan is truly complex but also understandable. He was desperate and raw in the game of love and showed that Nyang was everything to him. I will always be a Ta Hwan defender💯❤🩹
Both of the guys love seungnyang dearly. The difference is, Wang Yu put his country above his love for Nyang while Tahwan put his love for Nyang above his country.

Yes, He's quite obsessed with seungnyang at some point but in the end he always think about seungnyang's happiness even when he knows he's dying. Although some of his actions cannot be justified and wrong but that's what happened when you're surrounded by people who want to see you fall. Poisoned and stabbed by his trusted man. Therefore, he has a lot of insecurities in him.
I fell in love with Ji Chang Wook after watching this show. He was outstanding and outshined every actor in the show. The way He portrayed the Character development of Tahwan was brilliant. He simply nailed every emotion with perfect expression, body language and voice. His was the only character, that had so many variations throughout the show, while other characters were pretty much the same till the end. I have seen so many ppl hating his character and admiring Wang Yu and I feel so sad for that. Wang Yu was a strong King and He had all the good qualities and Tahwan was like a child who needed love and support and He would do anything to get that. Majority of reviews also mention that Sun Yang loved Wang Yu and not Tahwan, but I feel She loved Tahwan and respected Wang Yu. Even when She accepted Wang Yu's proposal, She weeps thinking of Tahwan. She forgave him for killing her Father and Wang Yu and did every thing to protect him. The only thing She did not do was express her love in words to Tahwan. This show is on top in my list of K Dramas, even though the last 3-4 episodes were rushed.
Is it just me who felt that Taltal was secretly so inlove with Yang? Wang Yu & Emperor are both handsome but I got hooked with Taltal along the way & he actually deserve a better ending in the story.💔
It's not just you. They wanted to make a love storyline for Taltal and Ki but they gave up because they thought there was enough of love stories in the show. I can feel Taltal love too.

Can we just take a moment to appreciate the emperor’s unconditional love for Seungnyang?? Like, ever since she came into his life he held onto her as if his life depended on it. Even when she told him that she didn’t care for him at all and that she was just using him to get her revenge, he still wouldn’t let her go. Even when people constantly kept telling him that she was a traitor and that she only wanted him for power and gold, he would stick up for her and tell himself that it wasn’t true :(( He would cry and worry for her every single time she got hurt. He would still try and make her laugh and smile, even when he knew she was thinking of the King. He transitioned from a scared, naive prince to a strict ruler because of her. It’s really upsetting that when Seungnyang finally gave him the love he wanted, he died :((
Exactly... I was shipping Emperor and Yang from the beginning, they just looked awesome thogether... at some point I thought Wang Yu's character was unnecessary. I even skipped many scenes with him and didn't miss anything important... I love how the Emperor went from scared kid to a strong man, all he ever needed is someone to believe in him. Another awesome character was Taltal, damn that man is smart and cunning, yet calm and cold... awesome series, a bit too long for my taste, but I recommend it.
I totally agree with you he changed a lot and become a strong emperor for her and just to Protect her. Ik in some parts his love was turning toxic but when you keep reading love letter of your love and her first love for 5 years and still pretending that you don’t know about it because you love that person so much and going through that pain alone is so traumatic. And it was so painful to see him go through that pain almost his whole life when everyone close to him is trying to use him for his power and betray him. Overall I loved his character so much and how it slowly grown from silly, adorable, childish to a strong emperor who protected her and his country at the end.
Is it just me who thinks that Ta Hwan actually ended up becoming Seung nyang’s true love? Yes she loved Wang you deeply but I think throughout the years, she’s grown to love Ta Hwan more. She spent more of her life protecting Ta Hwan from other people in the court and his country than she did with Wang Yu. Ta Hwan might’ve had a lot of faults but that’s the uniqueness of his character. He needed Seung Nyang, he said so himself, he can’t survive/live without her. She was his strength. On the other hand, Seung Nyang needed someone to treasure her deeply and make her feel her importance. Ta Hwan never failed to show that to her and the rest of the court. Whereas Wang Yu treated her as an equal and more of a comrade. Seung Nyang was the brain and muscle of the pair while Ta Hwan was the heart.

Personally I loved the emperor. I felt like his love was so pure. Imagine loving someone who tells you she wants to kill you but still loving her anyway. I really felt bad for him. He was so lonely. Every single person in his life stabbed him in the back and wanted to manipulate him. So when ki came along. He held onto her like his life depended on her. She was the first person who stood by him and defended him. Do yah I root for the emperor. Also he always tried to make her smile even when he knew she was thinking about the king,and she was more open to him. Although the king also did love her. But he chose to let her go and chose his country. While the king would give up everything just to have her by his side. Overall I loved the drama. It was great to see a female character who is strong all through the hardship not only in the beginning.

Ever since I watched it, it’s still my favorite historical drama. Just started rewatching it and my heart is already breaking again. It’s so so good, and the minor roles are so strong too. TalTal has to be one of my favorite minor roles, together with Wang Yu his comrades and eunuch.
@@abdilnas7563 His ending was such a batrayal, as a viewer you were sad how things ended with him, his kid, it's just heartbreaking how he knew it would never happen again. And to return back home defeated, to end the way it did behind her back as well. I remember that I made my best friend watch the show, and she would message me along the way when things happen. She was so mad at what happened nearing the end, it's a traggic ending, a vert sad ending. But it does make it a good story.

i don’t know why ppl get so confused with seungnyang’s feelings. if u analyze it more u will notice seungnyang was into tahwan at first. but the betrayal happened so it stopped. then wang yu came into the picture. their love for each other happened so fast like all of a sudden they’re in love w each other. that’s also why when wang yu proposed to her she was having second thoughts, remembered ta hwan and cried. that’s why she didn’t accept the proposal at first. what she felt for wang yu was more like admiration, gratitude and infatuation. he was her hero and the king of goryeo. she looked up to him. he saved her. she did love him tho especially she was the father of her child. but u can see that her feelings for the emperor grew more strongly as time passes by. she was in denial at first and that she’s starting to feel afraid. and the moment she fell for the emperor, what she only felt for wang yu was care. and nah, she didn’t love wangyu till he died. ppl are so confused by it. she even said to ta hwan that someday he will know her feelings. and that’s also why she’s more concerned about tahwan’s feelings when he killed wang yu. that’s also why she was so afraid that he will leave her or be done with her. whenever she’s with wang yu, she’s so formal. but whenever she’s with tahwan she can be herself. she can be silly, playful, she can joke around, she smiles a lot, she laughs a lot at the final scene, it showed the scene where she chooses tahwan over wang yu then rode the horse together with him. it can be interpreted in many ways. even though the path that she will take with ta hwan is rough and painful, she will always choose ta hwan. wang yu may be her first love but ta hwan is her greatest love.
Agreed. I think the ultimate conclusion was when she said i love you to Tah Wan but thank you to Wang Yu. Her relationship with Tah Wan was more of a real husband and wife , they fight , they get annoyed etc… Wang Yu did love her truly and I believe she did too. But at then end of the day, love is not just about emotions but of decision. She chose to be with Tah Wan and learned to love him too in the process. Heartbreaking though .
A lot of people might say Wang Yu and Nyang’s story was tragic, but I think it was the Emperor and Nyang’s story that was truly tragic. Wang Yu and Nyang fell in love with each other pretty quickly, they were separated just as quickly too. And whenever they reunited, they were split apart once again, but the thing is, it was mostly lingering feelings that remained between them by the end of the show. It was that longing for the past and for what could have been. The Emperor however, truly became a man and a lover because of Nyang. Love changed him from becoming an obsessed coward to a vicious, protective ruler. They started off as enemies, then friends, enemies again and then lovers. The Emperor’s love for her was always there even when she was using him, but Nyang’s love slowly but surely grew for him, to the point that she was so scared he would no longer love her. And yet what happened after the Emperor finally got the love he wanted from Nyang? It was over.

from the very first time, on daechong island....nyang already choosed taghwan, she didnt realize it. when she was asked by wang yu to ride with him but she choosed taghwan instead.
I Think she chose taghwan because she was afraid that Wang would discover she was a woman and she was afraid of her own feelings for hi(Wang) . Taghwan on the other hand was pretty much naive at that time she could handle him better.

But, just to give a little story based on the real life of Lady Ki, the Emperor did love her for real. She was indeed his most favored wife. He favored her over Tanashiri and Bayan. My favorite is Tal Tal. Since the beginning I noticed how he stands out next to his uncle. He was truly smart and chose peace over pointless war. If only he was the adviser of the king from the beginning. Not El temur not the Dogwar Queen not his uncle. Seriously The Empress and Tal Tal are the only ones smart, kind, compassionate but in the same time ruthless and determined to do what's necessary.
I finished this kdrama a few days ago and it devastated me. I came here looking for something to hold on to and found this video. How can a song pull at my heart so? It captures SungNyang's story acutely. Although the emperor could be infuriating and almost unforgivable, I could always see what Nyang could not help but see in him. I've watched this video multiple times now - it soothes me while also refreshing my heartache each time, yet I keep coming back. I don't know when I'll recover enough to watch the series again. But I know it's up there as the best historical drama I've ever seen. I am glad it exists and that I gave it a chance.
This is my favourite historical drama of all time and Tahwan is one of best characters JCW played. It was so fun to see his silly, adorable side of him which feels like how ji chang wook is in real life and the way the character grows and parts where he becomes a strong emperor. ❤️

And now that I watch this indeed, this one is beyond my expectations so good thrilled story, not boring it makes me feel more anxious to continue watching. Beautiful story. How sad is the ending.😭😢. Wang yu's love even after deaths😢 then The Emperor. So sad. Talking about also this gentleman Taltal I love his acting. He is so charming. Well, this is my favorite historical drama now. SunYang liked WangYoo as a friend in the beginning. The emperor was the first person she had romantic feelings for but due to the fact that the emperor caused her father's death that allowed her feelings to shift more to Wang Yoo.
Both Ta Hwan and Wang Yu loved her deeply. But Wang Yu never even got a chance to get her as his own,he lost his country,had to fight the whole time for his people as a true king. And at one point he lost the love of his life...and he just respected her decision and stepped down and chose what he had to do. He just couldn’t have her anymore, he understood that. Cause clearly Seung Nyung chose her own path and he couldn’t fight the emperor for the sake of his people as a king. So he kept loving her without expressing anything and kept protecting her from behind.He lost his son, even his own life...but always maintained his dignity. On the other hand Ta Hwan loved her so passionately, at some point it became obsession. He was not a emperor of people, he never was. He was hopeless,helpless and weak. He never had anyone whom he could trust,everyone, literally everyone betrayed him. Only one thing was constant in his life was Seung Nyung and his desperate love for her. He trusted her so blindly,dependent on her,offered her to use him to get her revenge.He was ready to kill everyone for Seung Nyung and he eventually did by killing Wang Yu.At some Point he became toxic.But its true,if it wasnt for his blind love,Seung Nyung couldn’t get the success. I can't tell who loved her the most,Ta Hwan or Wang Yu.....but they both protected her with their own lives.
It is given that both the king and emperor love nyang deeply and wholeheartedly. But who is the one that nyang loves more? I think from the very beginning, she already has feelings for the emperor when she chose to ride in his horse at the beach thats why it was replayed at the ending. It just happened that the emperor betrayed her and caused her father's death, so she swore revenge. There were so many chances for her to kill the emperor but every time she could never do it, she knows deep within her heart that under hatred and anger towards him, theres still that soft spot for the emperor. As for wang yu, nyang respected him and owe him for saving her life when she was young and he is her king in goryeo. She was always formal and respectful to wang yu, maybe she loves him for being the opposite of the emperor, the king is mature, decisive and intelligent. But she loves the emperor more, she's playful, silly and can be her true self in front of him even in the beginning of the drama. From the very beginning, she chose him and at the end she chose to stay with him.
No she didnt kill the emperor for the sake of the Goryeo people who would have died if she did so. That was explained in the beginning and later on it was pity, and she needed him for revenge. As much as she did love both I think its clear she loved Wang Yoo more. From the start her feelings were obvious and grew more and more. She was in pain for him, and until his last momment loved him strongly.
I want say one thing Why he choose the emperor in beach? Wang yu is the king of koreo , how that boy choose to ride with the king while he has no honrble position in that country That's why he choose emperor in that stage he is no emperor I hope you got it

*my opinion* even herself didnt know that her carrying feelings about who. She just liked the way that both man’s love for her, and their attitude about her. And she grown to be a warrior, not a lover. That because she dont know what is love and how to love a man. In the other hand, she saws both a really good friend out of a lover.
I continue watching the series because of this video. I think it was really a great drama it didn't feel like 51 episodes and until the last episodes, I didn't get bored at all. In the beginning, I was rooting for Ta Hwan but after the 5-year jump I start to see how much Wang Yu loved Yang too and Yang loved both men in a different way. Her love for Wang Yu started from admiration and while she was with Wang Yu she started developing feelings for Ta Hwan. After she came back to the palace for revenge her heart was cold and over time Ta Hwan's love for her makes cracks in her cold heart and she started loving him too. I think there was some motherly love for him too. When she was with Ta Hwan she kept loving Wang Yu too and I think she was always torn between two countries and two lovers and she did love them both.

Seung nyang loved both men... She placed the love for her country, her respect for her king and lover all on wangyu.. That's why she was so torn on leaving him.. Becuz she felt that she was betraying her homeland ..Whereas for ta hwan.. It was purely her love for the man..which I felt was more genuine Imo I liked her chemistry with ta hwan more.. He may have a lot more faults than wangyu but looking at the time and setting of the drama his behavior is understandable and pitiful.. Since a child he's been living in terror of being killed, trauma of watching his father die painfully, everyone around him trying to kill him, and the one person whom he trusts, loves and lives for is using him for her own revenge..
Empress Ki, Wang Yu and Taltal were the smartest, most upright, most compassionate, determined human beings in this series. I loved them 3 so so much till the end🥹❤️ Wang Yu and Yang went through the most😭 individually. Although I think Yang had more up moments than Wang Yu whose whole life was full of downs from when he was a kid. Probably because he didn’t get to have much power as he would’ve loved and Yang later got to have power through the Emperor. I’d never forget to mention the Emperor’s significance in Yang’s life cos if he didn’t love her obsessively, possessively, over his own self, she wouldn’t have gotten that much standing. His power alone was enough for her and he let her use it❤️ even though I don’t like him as a human being😒 there’s no morals to learn from his own story..too obsessed and childish and selfish and dumb.

Having followed Ji Chang Wook for several years now. His performance in Empress Ki was brilliant, and he has become quite an extra - ordinary actor in various genres up to 2024. JCW is a very special person. There are so many traits, qualities, and values that have brought him to where he is now. In a matter of one year from 2022 to the end of 2023 he gained one million extra followers, which brought him up 26 000 000 fans. I don’t follow any other actors because I am entranced by what this man has achieved and is achieving. Apart from anything else, he is very humble, very well groomed, and presents beautifully at interviews, not to mention that he is gifted and talented in many aspects of entertainment including singing, modelling, and in recent times brand ambassador for RADO and PARKLAND. I think he’s Global Ambassador for both brands. Heaven only knows how many other wonderful things he does commercials for, and belongs to. I know also that he makes donations to various causes dear to his heart! He’s an exceptional human being with a heart of gold. I have been asked by other actors to associate with them, but I refused. I will only follow that special someone who appeals to me… Ji Chang Wook. I like what he does, and how he does it. He is becoming quite the mature masculine man. He’s very appealing in so many ways. I’m not a fan as such, nor am I interested in his fame or fortune. I simply like him for his inner qualities, and how he presents as an actor. He was good when he started out. He became better as time progressed. And now, he is the best South Korean actor, to my mind, anyway. This didn’t just happen… he made it happen by sheer hard work. He has guts, determination and stick ability, and a very high work ethic. He gives it his all. I have tried to ignore him, but I can’t because each time I do, he comes up with something just that bit better. He certainly isn’t a ‘slacker’ when it comes to serious work. Deep down I think he is an ordinary person who enjoys the ordinary things of life. He always rises to the various occasions, yet he would enjoy the relaxed and ordinary moments in life. I love Kdrama, that is all I watch, I was reluctant to watch a historical Kdrama, but after watching Empress Ki, I cannot stop, I have since watched; The Kings Affection, Embracing The Moon, The Glamorous Consort, and many more. Empress Ki is the best historical drama I have ever seen. SKY CASTLE, not historical is another great Kdrama. I hardly watch any English drama anymore.
I have known about empress ki ever since I started watching Ji chang. I saw empress ki after healer, k2 and forbidden City. To this day empress ki remains the best work of ji chang for me. Maybe because I know the story now, I cry everytime I watch an empress ki tribute now though that wasn't the case before.
I really cant believe i watched this drama …coz generally i dont like to watch historical asian dramas …but after watching this i realized it is the top notch G.O.A.T of all the historical dramas.. the acting , their characterization, screenplay, everything is top notch. each and everyone in this drama did their 100% job in acting. Ta hwan, yang, Wang yu all the 3 gave their life for what they truly cherish and believe in. i do not know whether this 51 ep story is true upto what extent but i was awestruck with all the diplomacy and strategies that were used in that 13nth century times… how people were so cunning and their greed for power omg😮. i cried for wang yu, ta hwan, byul, taltal, wang yu’s subordinates. tanashilli on the other hand is a typical character she is a dangerous woman before marriage but after marriage she became more dangerous coz her husband didnt give her the love she wanted ..she was driven crazy coz she was craving attention from her husband which she didnt get but ofcourse it was a love less marriage.. she shouldnt have expected it.. her father shouldnt have used her as a weapon to achieve his goals. But at last i have learnt one thing from this drama POWER is always dangerous it attracts the worst and corrupts the best.

I just don't get why people get confused about whom empress Ki truly loved. Its simple, she loved the Emperor Tahwan from the moment she met him and protected him. Her feelings kinda shifted to Wang Yu because Tahwan caused the death of her Father so she felt betrayed. Thats why when Wang Yu proposed to her, she had doubts and started to have thoughts of Tahwan. I've just watched this drama... It has given me heartache...I'm still feeling hurt... Wang yu was the only one who was struggling from starting to end... I'm feeling kind of unfairness.
this is a tragic drama from beginning to end but that is exactly why it's a master piece. i love emperor and cheered for him to be with nyang from the beginning and so happy they finally confessed to each other. and i think nyang loved emperor from the start. it began from the times they were in koryeo. what she felt for wang yu is only admiration i think. because he is so self less, brave and self righteous, she respected and admired him. i think she mistook her feelings for wang yu as love. but with ta hwan she was more relaxed and unafraid. despite being an emperor, ta hwan was able to make nyang lose her guard and have a friendly banter with her. she let her hair loose when she was with him and was able to be herself without any restrictions which we can't say with wang yu because she was more reserved and polite with him never speaking or doing things out of turn. if they were in the present era she would have chosen ta hwan but due to circumstances, even if they were together, she was reluctant to confess to him.(mostly because i think he was the reason for her father's death) i think tahwan was her one true love and i'm s happy they turned out together. but his death really broke my heart. he was an innocent and kind person always so trusting of others. and he silently suffered so much for years. his mother never loved him and kolta decieved him with fake letters of nyang and wang yu. nyang was the only person he truly loved and it must have been a huge blow to him. but he never blamed her for it. his love was really intense because he would have gladly given up the whole empire just to be together with her. and nyang despite trying to convince her self she didn't love him, she truly did. because let's be honest, if the person reasonable for her father's death was someone else, she would have have certainly revenged him. but despite knowing it was ta hwan she still chose to ignore it. that must mean something right?... this is really the best drama i have ever watched and this scene always make me cry my eyes out. it's so heart wrenching but it's an exceptional ending. i wouldn't have changed a thing even if i can. this is the only drama i am satisfied with just about every thing. the acting of ta hwang and nyang... BRAVO!
I agree with you that Queen Ki felt in love with the emperor in the first place, when both Wan yu and the Emperor asked her to turn back on horseback, she chose the Emperor, that time with her there was no any pressure in choosing and she chose. And another detail was when Wan Yu asked if the Emperor was mean, if it was difficult to serve, she answered the Emperor was very interesting and asked Wan Yu if he could improve the Emperor's meal as well as cared for dressed.
@@mavedoan4056 yes. it's just i think she was too late in realizing her feelings. she has been a very logical person so when she felt she had feelings for emperor, she tried to force herself not to love him and forced herself to hold on to wang yu even after she married. she thought she could force her feelings and shape them in to what se wanted. i think she realized it is not the case when she finally confessed to the emperor. she cried when being crowned empress and small things like that which made us assume she loved wang yu was because i think she WANTED to love wang yu and not because she loved him. but i think deep inside she always loved emperor. pity she was silent about it until the end but as a drama i love it that she was late in confessing to emperor. it is sad, heart breaking but melancholically beautiful

The best K series I have ever watched... Justice has been served.. Heros thought they were totured, over come in every episodes by villains yet the WRITER allowed them to fight back and then the writer will pull it back again;heroes again will be captured: worst treatment like torture by the villains yet again, the writer allowed them to really give the viewers that taste of revenge against their enemies.. If their enemies will have time to mistreat the heroes in the series (like emperor ki, she has been slapped, pushed in the stairs, struggled, yet the WRITE allowed her to slap back the villain in a very special way)...... So, in my kseries watch, this is the best Kseries (depicting kingdome rulers in the past). It wasnt corny, not dragging, intense action and sword fighting, love affair(like love triangle), love versus necessity and love conquers all feeling;you all have in it in the series... You will ENJOY.. BELIEVE ME.. like the series:what happen to secretary KIM... (like the series:the heroined wasnt treated like garbage in the whole movie.. The heroined allowed to be tortured and allowed by the writer to fought back the enemies, head on.. My only :taltal had his owned love affair: but the writer was very good ( the writer allowed every character to shine and had a very good and beautiful lines and acting scene before the pass away in the story)... Wangyu loves her with all his all... he gave up his life for nyang safety... he loves nyang even letting her go and stayed afar 😭😭😭 The emperor loves her even letting let her use him... the thing is he never leave nyang and made sure nyang to be safe even when he died 😭 Nyang loved wangyu until his death but learned to loved the emperor at the end. And my dear taltal yes we know there is no love line on both of you but we felt that there is love on taltal to the empress..
This drama gives me heartache..... Here’s my opinion: Wang yu loved Ki wholeheartedly, from me; he would have made a great king for his people considering he couldn’t be manipulated for easily, he was confident, brave and principled. And to be honest, his role was unfair to him and his son Maha; would have preferred father and son rule their kingdom with their mother as she should remain with the emperor. As for the Empress: He loved both but adored the emperor most... personally I feel the love trouble and jealousy started with her quest for vengeance if she knew she was gonna get too emotionally attracted and pity for the Emperor, rather she became a jewel and help make the emperor a better person. As for the Emperor: He was an innocent fellow who trusted everyone around too much which caused him betrayal. He was just too naive to rule a dynasty no wonder the weight became too much on him which I believe that caused him his life at the end. And his love for Ki was pure and somewhat toxic when he let his jealousy and fear of loosing her to Wang yu blind him and controlled his heart. I hated when he killed innocent Wang yu who he knew already lost his son Maha that he(Emperor) never treated fairly. In summary, injustice was done to Wang yu and his men at the end, the Empress acted cowardly through her vengeance when she somehow forgot what she was fighting for thereby becoming softened for the Emperor and also never told Maha the truth about her and her Father. And as the Emperor, I guess he deserved the end cos a fragile and naive mind never succeed too long ruling a great dynasty where taste for power and money control 99% of the people’s judgments. I’ll never forget Taltal, guess he would have become the Emperor after all cos all I see is a noble, fierce and smart individual, trust me that’s what every kingdom deserve in a candidate. For me, I think Wang Yu's love was the purest and greatest among all of them. He was honest and open in his love, never gave up and never asked for anything in return. And yet, for all his true love, far from getting his lover, he even lost her love for him. I think that this is what makes the drama so tragic. I kind of wish that there was an alternate ending where she and Wang Yu met again and fell in love once again, in another life.
I felt they stretched this drama too much in the middle episodes.. and at the end, they somehow rushed to finish..they could have completed within 35 episodes...... Keeping aside that, I really enjoyed this drama and got obsessed with TalTal's character...played beautifully by Jin Yi Han 💕💕💕💕💕 ..his unconditional love, trust, respect, and loyalty for Yang Ki ....omg..just can't get enough of him...
I was looking for a fellow TalTal fan. His role just got to me hard, I’m stil upset the way it ended. Kinda unjustified, they should have shown it to us in a scene, he deserved a scene for his end. I would have cried my eyes out, but it was so weak the way it ended. Unfortunately, the actor itself has not a lot of works. I watched the daydrama golden pouch and really is brilliant actor. Such a shame he doesn’t have more series or movies to his name.
Regardless of all the controversy surrounding this piece of art. It remains in my opinion the best historical kdrama I have watched so far based on a true story. I have studied history quite a bit myself and I must say that people must remember that history from the 13th century is obviously going to be inaccurate. It is based on story telling from generation to generation and a few writtings from different sources here and there which may be distorted and conflicting. For me however, the directors, writers and actors did a terrific job of re-enacting the 13th century story of Empress Ki, Seng Yang a Goyreo low-born girl who defied all odds and rose from being a slave girl in an oppressed country to becoming an Empress of the Yuan kingdom. The courage, endurance, tenacity, wisdom, determination, hard work and will power by this lady depicted in this drama is from out of this world. The drama did a great job in portraying the hardships, wars, poverty and social class structure she had to overcome to rise to power. Her love life would interfere with her desire to revenge the injustices she faced. With betrayal and other dynamics playing into her story. I will say she was a remarkable lady and this drama is a "must watch". Well executed, very captivating, inspiring and entertaining.
They both loved her more than their lives, but for Wang Yoo, his country, Goryeo, came before her. For the emperor Togon, Yang came first. However for her, revenge was first. Her decision for revenge is what changed their fates. She would have ended up with Wang Yoo, along with Byul (Maha), and used her brains to fight for her country. The emperor wouldn’t hurt her, much less the father of her child, because he loves her, and much less after what happened with her father. Her decision not to follow Wang Yoo after they left the emperor’s palace was the pivoting moment of the entire story.
I really hate this drama.. I think the producer or whoever it was, was too cruel to Ta Hwang character. Literally from the beginning till the very last his breath. Ta Hwang never respected since he was teen, even his lil bro dethroned him. Then everyone from his own dinasty tried to kill him. Wangyu, Nyang and gangs saved him only for the sake of Goryeo, not Ta Hwang himself. When he became emperor, everyone tried to kill him. Even his closest guys eventually gang up to kill him. The most loyal one even betrayed him and ended up died in Ta Hwang's hand. The most painful was, when he knew he would die, his most beloved woman lied to him about his son. Gosh!!!!! And he only got one sentence as gift in the end of his life, "I love u too"!!!! JUST THAAAATT!!!??? THIS DRAMA WAS PSYCO
it is a rollercoaster that's why many people loved the drama. if you aren't really knowledgeable about historical drama, you wouldn't really understand and think that what happened at the beginning is unfair - they saved Ta Hwan to save goryeo because the moment ta hwan arrives at wang yu's territory, it is his responsibility to protect him otherwise the kingdom of Ta Hwan would make that as an excuse to wage war against Goryeo which is smaller than mongolia (present name) that was also being exploited by mongolia. everything was political at that time, okay...
Everyone in this drama made sacrifices and suffered. Ta Hwang wasnt the only and he wasnt exactly a present either. He did everything for the sake of him self and was really selfish. Instead of fighting for freedom and fairness he allowed others to control him until Seung Nyang came with her revenge. He killed her father for his own sake, and he was always obsessed with Yangi trying to keep her by his side. He never though about what she wanted. And those who cared about his life for the sake of Goryeo, where the ones trying to protect there own people. Wang Yoo wanted to protect his people and land? Wang Yoo wanted to rescue his people from the Emperors area, and he was made with the Emperor for a reason.
Was never into kdrama. Not my cup of tea, but I'm here only because of Wang Yu. I got fascinated with his performance in 'Frozen Flower' and started following his other works.

This drama does a really good job at portraying how it was to be a consort/concubine at the time. It breaks my heart every time that both men love her but ultimately want her as their possession, even when she’s unwilling. I can’t imagine what that was like to not want a relationship with the emperor but since he’s the one man with ultimate authority/power you can’t say no. This drama / wang yu reminds me of unchained love. The prince to emperor in that drama was the first time I truly felt so disgusted and uncomfortable.

Her ultimate love was defo Tahwan. Even though she also loved Wang yu, it seemed like her love for him was built from admiration and there were no room for mistakes. But Tahwan really tried her patience lol... even though there were many moments he messed up and it felt like she wouldn't forgive him (even when he betrayed her before and even killed Wang yu) she ultimately did. That alone reveals the love she had for him in heart long before she even noticed. She finally completely shows her heart at the end scene when Tahwan was dying and i could tell from her reaction it felt like she lost her soul mate.

This is by far my favorite Korean historical drama. Seung Nyang is such a great character - super tough, brilliant and beautiful, and Ha Ji Won plays her to perfection.
No matter how many times I've watched Empress Ki, my heart still breaks for Ta Hwan and I cry about his character so many times. He truly had nobody, I think his anger towards Wang Yu was also because of how loved Wang Yu he was. Wang Yu always had an army ready to rally with him and die for him. Whereas Ta Hwan had none and he was aware of this. The people he's known his entire life, were just snakes in the grass waiting to strike. You don't have to imagine how worthless and unlovable he felt, you could see it every time he broke down crying. He just wanted to be loved. Because he was battling with self worth, feeling that he was second to Wang Yu in Nyang's heart broke him even more. Only when he was on his deathbed did he learn he was loved and then he died. Ta Hwan is truly complex but also understandable. He was desperate and raw in the game of love and showed that Nyang was everything to him. I will always be a Ta Hwan defender💯❤🩹

I fell in love with Ji Chang Wook after watching this show. He was outstanding and outshined every actor in the show. The way He portrayed the Character development of Tahwan was brilliant. He simply nailed every emotion with perfect expression, body language and voice. His was the only character, that had so many variations throughout the show, while other characters were pretty much the same till the end.
I have seen so many ppl hating his character and admiring Wang Yu and I feel so sad for that. Wang Yu was a strong King and He had all the good qualities and Tahwan was like a child who needed love and support and He would do anything to get that. Majority of reviews also mention that Sun Yang loved Wang Yu and not Tahwan, but I feel She loved Tahwan and respected Wang Yu. Even when She accepted Wang Yu's proposal, She weeps thinking of Tahwan. She forgave him for killing her Father and Wang Yu and did every thing to protect him. The only thing She did not do was express her love in words to Tahwan.
This show is on top in my list of K Dramas, even though the last 3-4 episodes were rushed.

Can we just take a moment to appreciate the emperor’s unconditional love for Seungnyang?? Like, ever since she came into his life he held onto her as if his life depended on it. Even when she told him that she didn’t care for him at all and that she was just using him to get her revenge, he still wouldn’t let her go. Even when people constantly kept telling him that she was a traitor and that she only wanted him for power and gold, he would stick up for her and tell himself that it wasn’t true :(( He would cry and worry for her every single time she got hurt. He would still try and make her laugh and smile, even when he knew she was thinking of the King. He transitioned from a scared, naive prince to a strict ruler because of her. It’s really upsetting that when Seungnyang finally gave him the love he wanted, he died :((
Exactly... I was shipping Emperor and Yang from the beginning, they just looked awesome thogether... at some point I thought Wang Yu's character was unnecessary. I even skipped many scenes with him and didn't miss anything important... I love how the Emperor went from scared kid to a strong man, all he ever needed is someone to believe in him. Another awesome character was Taltal, damn that man is smart and cunning, yet calm and cold... awesome series, a bit too long for my taste, but I recommend it.
I totally agree with you he changed a lot and become a strong emperor for her and just to Protect her. Ik in some parts his love was turning toxic but when you keep reading love letter of your love and her first love for 5 years and still pretending that you don’t know about it because you love that person so much and going through that pain alone is so traumatic. And it was so painful to see him go through that pain almost his whole life when everyone close to him is trying to use him for his power and betray him. Overall I loved his character so much and how it slowly grown from silly, adorable, childish to a strong emperor who protected her and his country at the end.

Is it just me who thinks that Ta Hwan actually ended up becoming Seung nyang’s true love? Yes she loved Wang you deeply but I think throughout the years, she’s grown to love Ta Hwan more. She spent more of her life protecting Ta Hwan from other people in the court and his country than she did with Wang Yu.
Ta Hwan might’ve had a lot of faults but that’s the uniqueness of his character. He needed Seung Nyang, he said so himself, he can’t survive/live without her. She was his strength.
On the other hand, Seung Nyang needed someone to treasure her deeply and make her feel her importance. Ta Hwan never failed to show that to her and the rest of the court. Whereas Wang Yu treated her as an equal and more of a comrade.
Seung Nyang was the brain and muscle of the pair while Ta Hwan was the heart.

Personally I loved the emperor. I felt like his love was so pure. Imagine loving someone who tells you she wants to kill you but still loving her anyway. I really felt bad for him. He was so lonely. Every single person in his life stabbed him in the back and wanted to manipulate him. So when ki came along. He held onto her like his life depended on her. She was the first person who stood by him and defended him. Do yah I root for the emperor. Also he always tried to make her smile even when he knew she was thinking about the king,and she was more open to him. Although the king also did love her. But he chose to let her go and chose his country. While the king would give up everything just to have her by his side.
Overall I loved the drama. It was great to see a female character who is strong all through the hardship not only in the beginning.

Ever since I watched it, it’s still my favorite historical drama. Just started rewatching it and my heart is already breaking again. It’s so so good, and the minor roles are so strong too. TalTal has to be one of my favorite minor roles, together with Wang Yu his comrades and eunuch.
I love this drama and I have this little fear anytime I watch it again because I know the drama is very heartbreaking 😢
It was a very tragic ending for Wang Yu, I hoped for him to get back his throne and Yon Feisu being his empress.
@@abdilnas7563 His ending was such a batrayal, as a viewer you were sad how things ended with him, his kid, it's just heartbreaking how he knew it would never happen again. And to return back home defeated, to end the way it did behind her back as well. I remember that I made my best friend watch the show, and she would message me along the way when things happen. She was so mad at what happened nearing the end, it's a traggic ending, a vert sad ending. But it does make it a good story.
After all the time, it still broke me so bad 😭😭 Just my feeling i believe that WangYu and SeungNyang was born for each other 😭😭 nothing can separate their soul, even if they was dead 😭😭

i don’t know why ppl get so confused with seungnyang’s feelings. if u analyze it more u will notice seungnyang was into tahwan at first. but the betrayal happened so it stopped. then wang yu came into the picture. their love for each other happened so fast like all of a sudden they’re in love w each other.
that’s also why when wang yu proposed to her she was having second thoughts, remembered ta hwan and cried. that’s why she didn’t accept the proposal at first.
what she felt for wang yu was more like admiration, gratitude and infatuation. he was her hero and the king of goryeo. she looked up to him. he saved her. she did love him tho especially she was the father of her child. but u can see that her feelings for the emperor grew more strongly as time passes by. she was in denial at first and that she’s starting to feel afraid. and the moment she fell for the emperor, what she only felt for wang yu was care. and nah, she didn’t love wangyu till he died. ppl are so confused by it. she even said to ta hwan that someday he will know her feelings.
and that’s also why she’s more concerned about tahwan’s feelings when he killed wang yu. that’s also why she was so afraid that he will leave her or be done with her.
whenever she’s with wang yu, she’s so formal. but whenever she’s with tahwan she can be herself. she can be silly, playful, she can joke around, she smiles a lot, she laughs a lot
at the final scene, it showed the scene where she chooses tahwan over wang yu then rode the horse together with him. it can be interpreted in many ways. even though the path that she will take with ta hwan is rough and painful, she will always choose ta hwan.
wang yu may be her first love but ta hwan is her greatest love.

Agreed. I think the ultimate conclusion was when she said i love you to Tah Wan but thank you to Wang Yu. Her relationship with Tah Wan was more of a real husband and wife , they fight , they get annoyed etc… Wang Yu did love her truly and I believe she did too. But at then end of the day, love is not just about emotions but of decision. She chose to be with Tah Wan and learned to love him too in the process. Heartbreaking though .

A lot of people might say Wang Yu and Nyang’s story was tragic, but I think it was the Emperor and Nyang’s story that was truly tragic.
Wang Yu and Nyang fell in love with each other pretty quickly, they were separated just as quickly too. And whenever they reunited, they were split apart once again, but the thing is, it was mostly lingering feelings that remained between them by the end of the show. It was that longing for the past and for what could have been.
The Emperor however, truly became a man and a lover because of Nyang. Love changed him from becoming an obsessed coward to a vicious, protective ruler. They started off as enemies, then friends, enemies again and then lovers. The Emperor’s love for her was always there even when she was using him, but Nyang’s love slowly but surely grew for him, to the point that she was so scared he would no longer love her. And yet what happened after the Emperor finally got the love he wanted from Nyang? It was over.

from the very first time, on daechong island....nyang already choosed taghwan, she didnt realize it. when she was asked by wang yu to ride with him but she choosed taghwan instead.
I Think she chose taghwan because she was afraid that Wang would discover she was a woman and she was afraid of her own feelings for hi(Wang) . Taghwan on the other hand was pretty much naive at that time she could handle him better.

Wang Yu's love for Nyang was pure, and so is the Emperor's. It's unfair to say that Wang Yu was scared to take his steps, but it's also unfair to say that Nyang did nothing for him. The Emperor, on the other hand, was more than willing to do anything for her. Despite the opposition, he was even more than willing to make Nyang her Empress.
But, just to give a little story based on the real life of Lady Ki, the Emperor did love her for real. She was indeed his most favored wife. He favored her over Tanashiri and Bayan. Until his last days, he was with Lady Ki and Ayushiridara, their son.

My favorite is Tal Tal. Since the beginning I noticed how he stands out next to his uncle. He was truly smart and chose peace over pointless war. If only he was the adviser of the king from the beginning. Not El temur not the Dogwar Queen not his uncle.
Seriously The Empress and Tal Tal are the only ones smart, kind, compassionate but in the same time ruthless and determined to do what's necessary.

I finished this kdrama a few days ago and it devastated me. I came here looking for something to hold on to and found this video. How can a song pull at my heart so? It captures SungNyang's story acutely.
Although the emperor could be infuriating and almost unforgivable, I could always see what Nyang could not help but see in him.
I've watched this video multiple times now - it soothes me while also refreshing my heartache each time, yet I keep coming back.
I don't know when I'll recover enough to watch the series again. But I know it's up there as the best historical drama I've ever seen. I am glad it exists and that I gave it a chance.

This is my favourite historical drama of all time and Tahwan is one of best characters JCW played. It was so fun to see his silly, adorable side of him which feels like how ji chang wook is in real life and the way the character grows and parts where he becomes a strong emperor. ❤️

And now that I watch this indeed, this one is beyond my expectations so good thrilled story, not boring it makes me feel more anxious to continue watching. Beautiful story. How sad is the ending.😭😢. Wang yu's love even after deaths😢 then The Emperor. So sad. Talking about also this gentleman Taltal I love his acting. He is so charming. Well, this is my favorite historical drama now. SunYang liked WangYoo as a friend in the beginning. The emperor was the first person she had romantic feelings for but due to the fact that the emperor caused her father's death that allowed her feelings to shift more to Wang Yoo.
Both Ta Hwan and Wang Yu loved her deeply. But Wang Yu never even got a chance to get her as his own,he lost his country,had to fight the whole time for his people as a true king. And at one point he lost the love of his life...and he just respected her decision and stepped down and chose what he had to do. He just couldn’t have her anymore, he understood that. Cause clearly Seung Nyung chose her own path and he couldn’t fight the emperor for the sake of his people as a king. So he kept loving her without expressing anything and kept protecting her from behind.He lost his son, even his own life...but always maintained his dignity.
On the other hand Ta Hwan loved her so passionately, at some point it became obsession. He was not a emperor of people, he never was. He was hopeless,helpless and weak. He never had anyone whom he could trust,everyone, literally everyone betrayed him. Only one thing was constant in his life was Seung Nyung and his desperate love for her. He trusted her so blindly,dependent on her,offered her to use him to get her revenge.He was ready to kill everyone for Seung Nyung and he eventually did by killing Wang Yu.At some Point he became toxic.But its true,if it wasnt for his blind love,Seung Nyung couldn’t get the success.

It is given that both the king and emperor love nyang deeply and wholeheartedly. But who is the one that nyang loves more? I think from the very beginning, she already has feelings for the emperor when she chose to ride in his horse at the beach thats why it was replayed at the ending. It just happened that the emperor betrayed her and caused her father's death, so she swore revenge. There were so many chances for her to kill the emperor but every time she could never do it, she knows deep within her heart that under hatred and anger towards him, theres still that soft spot for the emperor. As for wang yu, nyang respected him and owe him for saving her life when she was young and he is her king in goryeo. She was always formal and respectful to wang yu, maybe she loves him for being the opposite of the emperor, the king is mature, decisive and intelligent. But she loves the emperor more, she's playful, silly and can be her true self in front of him even in the beginning of the drama. From the very beginning, she chose him and at the end she chose to stay with him.
No she didnt kill the emperor for the sake of the Goryeo people who would have died if she did so. That was explained in the beginning and later on it was pity, and she needed him for revenge. As much as she did love both I think its clear she loved Wang Yoo more. From the start her feelings were obvious and grew more and more. She was in pain for him, and until his last momment loved him strongly.

*my opinion* even herself didnt know that her carrying feelings about who. She just liked the way that both man’s love for her, and their attitude about her. And she grown to be a warrior, not a lover. That because she dont know what is love and how to love a man. In the other hand, she saws both a really good friend out of a lover.
I continue watching the series because of this video. I think it was really a great drama it didn't feel like 51 episodes and until the last episodes, I didn't get bored at all. In the beginning, I was rooting for Ta Hwan but after the 5-year jump I start to see how much Wang Yu loved Yang too and Yang loved both men in a different way. Her love for Wang Yu started from admiration and while she was with Wang Yu she started developing feelings for Ta Hwan. After she came back to the palace for revenge her heart was cold and over time Ta Hwan's love for her makes cracks in her cold heart and she started loving him too. I think there was some motherly love for him too. When she was with Ta Hwan she kept loving Wang Yu too and I think she was always torn between two countries and two lovers and she did love them both.

Seung nyang loved both men... She placed the love for her country, her respect for her king and lover all on wangyu.. That's why she was so torn on leaving him.. Becuz she felt that she was betraying her homeland ..Whereas for ta hwan.. It was purely her love for the man..which I felt was more genuine Imo I liked her chemistry with ta hwan more.. He may have a lot more faults than wangyu but looking at the time and setting of the drama his behavior is understandable and pitiful.. Since a child he's been living in terror of being killed, trauma of watching his father die painfully, everyone around him trying to kill him, and the one person whom he trusts, loves and lives for is using him for her own revenge..
Empress Ki, Wang Yu and Taltal were the smartest, most upright, most compassionate, determined human beings in this series. I loved them 3 so so much till the end🥹❤️
Wang Yu and Yang went through the most😭 individually. Although I think Yang had more up moments than Wang Yu whose whole life was full of downs from when he was a kid. Probably because he didn’t get to have much power as he would’ve loved and Yang later got to have power through the Emperor.
I’d never forget to mention the Emperor’s significance in Yang’s life cos if he didn’t love her obsessively, possessively, over his own self, she wouldn’t have gotten that much standing. His power alone was enough for her and he let her use it❤️ even though I don’t like him as a human being😒 there’s no morals to learn from his own story..too obsessed and childish and selfish and dumb.
It have been about 6 or 7 years I watched this drama with all of my family.I miss those old days.It was so exicted to wait for two episodes per a week.The best historical drama I have ever seen.
Having followed Ji Chang Wook for several years now. His performance in Empress Ki was brilliant, and he has become quite an extra - ordinary actor in various genres up to 2024. JCW is a very special person. There are so many traits, qualities, and values that have brought him to where he is now. In a matter of one year from 2022 to the end of 2023 he gained one million extra followers, which brought him up 26 000 000 fans. I don’t follow any other actors because I am entranced by what this man has achieved and is achieving. Apart from anything else, he is very humble, very well groomed, and presents beautifully at interviews, not to mention that he is gifted and talented in many aspects of entertainment including singing, modelling, and in recent times brand ambassador for RADO and PARKLAND. I think he’s Global Ambassador for both brands. Heaven only knows how many other wonderful things he does commercials for, and belongs to. I know also that he makes donations to various causes dear to his heart! He’s an exceptional human being with a heart of gold. I have been asked by other actors to associate with them, but I refused. I will only follow that special someone who appeals to me… Ji Chang Wook. I like what he does, and how he does it. He is becoming quite the mature masculine man. He’s very appealing in so many ways. I’m not a fan as such, nor am I interested in his fame or fortune. I simply like him for his inner qualities, and how he presents as an actor. He was good when he started out. He became better as time progressed. And now, he is the best South Korean actor, to my mind, anyway. This didn’t just happen… he made it happen by sheer hard work. He has guts, determination and stick ability, and a very high work ethic. He gives it his all. I have tried to ignore him, but I can’t because each time I do, he comes up with something just that bit better. He certainly isn’t a ‘slacker’ when it comes to serious work. Deep down I think he is an ordinary person who enjoys the ordinary things of life. He always rises to the various occasions, yet he would enjoy the relaxed and ordinary moments in life. I love Kdrama, that is all I watch, I was reluctant to watch a historical Kdrama, but after watching Empress Ki, I cannot stop, I have since watched; The Kings Affection, Embracing The Moon, The Glamorous Consort, and many more. Empress Ki is the best historical drama I have ever seen. SKY CASTLE, not historical is another great Kdrama. I hardly watch any English drama anymore.
I have known about empress ki ever since I started watching Ji chang. I saw empress ki after healer, k2 and forbidden City. To this day empress ki remains the best work of ji chang for me. Maybe because I know the story now, I cry everytime I watch an empress ki tribute now though that wasn't the case before.
I really cant believe i watched this drama …coz generally i dont like to watch historical asian dramas …but after watching this i realized it is the top notch G.O.A.T of all the historical dramas.. the acting , their characterization, screenplay, everything is top notch. each and everyone in this drama did their 100% job in acting. Ta hwan, yang, Wang yu all the 3 gave their life for what they truly cherish and believe in. i do not know whether this 51 ep story is true upto what extent but i was awestruck with all the diplomacy and strategies that were used in that 13nth century times… how people were so cunning and their greed for power omg😮. i cried for wang yu, ta hwan, byul, taltal, wang yu’s subordinates. tanashilli on the other hand is a typical character she is a dangerous woman before marriage but after marriage she became more dangerous coz her husband didnt give her the love she wanted ..she was driven crazy coz she was craving attention from her husband which she didnt get but ofcourse it was a love less marriage.. she shouldnt have expected it.. her father shouldnt have used her as a weapon to achieve his goals. But at last i have learnt one thing from this drama POWER is always dangerous it attracts the worst and corrupts the best.
I hesitated before watching this drama, I saw a extract of one episode and I was looking for a video mv to sum it up.This video gathers all the most intense and emotional scenes .This was the reason why I decided to watch Empress Ki.I shipped Empress Ki with Emperor of Yuan.In this video de can see the passion of Emperor for Empress Ki which seems at the beginning a one -side love which turn into obsession and passion.

I just don't get why people get confused about whom empress Ki truly loved. Its simple, she loved the Emperor Tahwan from the moment she met him and protected him. Her feelings kinda shifted to Wang Yu because Tahwan caused the death of her Father so she felt betrayed. Thats why when Wang Yu proposed to her, she had doubts and started to have thoughts of Tahwan. She only agreed to Wang Yu proposal beacuse she was still angry at Tahwan and denied her feelings for him.
I am glade she ended up with the Emperor because he put her first. Wang YU loved the empress but he put his country before her. He should have never left her in Yuan . Tahwan wouldnt do that.

I've just watched this drama... It has given me heartache...I'm still feeling hurt... Wang yu was the only one who was struggling from starting to end... I'm feeling kind of unfairness.
this is a tragic drama from beginning to end but that is exactly why it's a master piece. i love emperor and cheered for him to be with nyang from the beginning and so happy they finally confessed to each other. and i think nyang loved emperor from the start. it began from the times they were in koryeo. what she felt for wang yu is only admiration i think. because he is so self less, brave and self righteous, she respected and admired him. i think she mistook her feelings for wang yu as love. but with ta hwan she was more relaxed and unafraid. despite being an emperor, ta hwan was able to make nyang lose her guard and have a friendly banter with her. she let her hair loose when she was with him and was able to be herself without any restrictions which we can't say with wang yu because she was more reserved and polite with him never speaking or doing things out of turn. if they were in the present era she would have chosen ta hwan but due to circumstances, even if they were together, she was reluctant to confess to him.(mostly because i think he was the reason for her father's death) i think tahwan was her one true love and i'm s happy they turned out together. but his death really broke my heart. he was an innocent and kind person always so trusting of others. and he silently suffered so much for years. his mother never loved him and kolta decieved him with fake letters of nyang and wang yu. nyang was the only person he truly loved and it must have been a huge blow to him. but he never blamed her for it. his love was really intense because he would have gladly given up the whole empire just to be together with her. and nyang despite trying to convince her self she didn't love him, she truly did. because let's be honest, if the person reasonable for her father's death was someone else, she would have have certainly revenged him. but despite knowing it was ta hwan she still chose to ignore it. that must mean something right?... this is really the best drama i have ever watched and this scene always make me cry my eyes out. it's so heart wrenching but it's an exceptional ending. i wouldn't have changed a thing even if i can. this is the only drama i am satisfied with just about every thing. the acting of ta hwang and nyang... BRAVO!
I agree with you that Queen Ki felt in love with the emperor in the first place, when both Wan yu and the Emperor asked her to turn back on horseback, she chose the Emperor, that time with her there was no any pressure in choosing and she chose. And another detail was when Wan Yu asked if the Emperor was mean, if it was difficult to serve, she answered the Emperor was very interesting and asked Wan Yu if he could improve the Emperor's meal as well as cared for dressed.
@@mavedoan4056 yes. it's just i think she was too late in realizing her feelings. she has been a very logical person so when she felt she had feelings for emperor, she tried to force herself not to love him and forced herself to hold on to wang yu even after she married. she thought she could force her feelings and shape them in to what se wanted. i think she realized it is not the case when she finally confessed to the emperor. she cried when being crowned empress and small things like that which made us assume she loved wang yu was because i think she WANTED to love wang yu and not because she loved him. but i think deep inside she always loved emperor. pity she was silent about it until the end but as a drama i love it that she was late in confessing to emperor. it is sad, heart breaking but melancholically beautiful

The best K series I have ever watched... Justice has been served.. Heros thought they were totured, over come in every episodes by villains yet the WRITER allowed them to fight back and then the writer will pull it back again;heroes again will be captured: worst treatment like torture by the villains yet again, the writer allowed them to really give the viewers that taste of revenge against their enemies.. If their enemies will have time to mistreat the heroes in the series (like emperor ki, she has been slapped, pushed in the stairs, struggled, yet the WRITE allowed her to slap back the villain in a very special way)......
So, in my kseries watch, this is the best Kseries (depicting kingdome rulers in the past). It wasnt corny, not dragging, intense action and sword fighting, love affair(like love triangle), love versus necessity and love conquers all feeling;you all have in it in the series... You will ENJOY..
BELIEVE ME.. like the series:what happen to secretary KIM... (like the series:the heroined wasnt treated like garbage in the whole movie.. The heroined allowed to be tortured and allowed by the writer to fought back the enemies, head on..
My only :taltal had his owned love affair: but the writer was very good ( the writer allowed every character to shine and had a very good and beautiful lines and acting scene before the pass away in the story)...

In the end, they both could've loved another woman and would have had good lives. Moral of the story.."Don't obsess over a person who doesn't deserve your love"
Wangyu loves her with all his all... he gave up his life for nyang safety... he loves nyang even letting her go and stayed afar 😭😭😭
The emperor loves her even letting let her use him... the thing is he never leave nyang and made sure nyang to be safe even when he died 😭
Nyang loved wangyu until his death but learned to loved the emperor at the end.
And my dear taltal yes we know there is no love line on both of you but we felt that there is love on taltal to the empress..

This drama gives me heartache..... Here’s my opinion: Wang yu loved Ki wholeheartedly, from me; he would have made a great king for his people considering he couldn’t be manipulated for easily, he was confident, brave and principled. And to be honest, his role was unfair to him and his son Maha; would have preferred father and son rule their kingdom with their mother as she should remain with the emperor.
As for the Empress: He loved both but adored the emperor most... personally I feel the love trouble and jealousy started with her quest for vengeance if she knew she was gonna get too emotionally attracted and pity for the Emperor, rather she became a jewel and help make the emperor a better person.
As for the Emperor: He was an innocent fellow who trusted everyone around too much which caused him betrayal. He was just too naive to rule a dynasty no wonder the weight became too much on him which I believe that caused him his life at the end. And his love for Ki was pure and somewhat toxic when he let his jealousy and fear of loosing her to Wang yu blind him and controlled his heart. I hated when he killed innocent Wang yu who he knew already lost his son Maha that he(Emperor) never treated fairly.
In summary, injustice was done to Wang yu and his men at the end, the Empress acted cowardly through her vengeance when she somehow forgot what she was fighting for thereby becoming softened for the Emperor and also never told Maha the truth about her and her Father. And as the Emperor, I guess he deserved the end cos a fragile and naive mind never succeed too long ruling a great dynasty where taste for power and money control 99% of the people’s judgments.
I’ll never forget Taltal, guess he would have become the Emperor after all cos all I see is a noble, fierce and smart individual, trust me that’s what every kingdom deserve in a candidate. Rip #wangyu&Maha. THE DRAMA WAS AWESOME ❤️
For me, I think Wang Yu's love was the purest and greatest among all of them. He was honest and open in his love, never gave up and never asked for anything in return. And yet, for all his true love, far from getting his lover, he even lost her love for him. I think that this is what makes the drama so tragic. I kind of wish that there was an alternate ending where she and Wang Yu met again and fell in love once again, in another life.

I felt they stretched this drama too much in the middle episodes.. and at the end, they somehow rushed to finish..they could have completed within 35 episodes......
Keeping aside that, I really enjoyed this drama and got obsessed with TalTal's character...played beautifully by Jin Yi Han 💕💕💕💕💕 ..his unconditional love, trust, respect, and loyalty for Yang Ki ....omg..just can't get enough of him...
I was looking for a fellow TalTal fan. His role just got to me hard, I’m stil upset the way it ended. Kinda unjustified, they should have shown it to us in a scene, he deserved a scene for his end. I would have cried my eyes out, but it was so weak the way it ended. Unfortunately, the actor itself has not a lot of works. I watched the daydrama golden pouch and really is brilliant actor. Such a shame he doesn’t have more series or movies to his name.

Regardless of all the controversy surrounding this piece of art. It remains in my opinion the best historical kdrama I have watched so far based on a true story. I have studied history quite a bit myself and I must say that people must remember that history from the 13th century is obviously going to be inaccurate. It is based on story telling from generation to generation and a few writtings from different sources here and there which may be distorted and conflicting.
For me however, the directors, writers and actors did a terrific job of re-enacting the 13th century story of Empress Ki, Seng Yang a Goyreo low-born girl who defied all odds and rose from being a slave girl in an oppressed country to becoming an Empress of the Yuan kingdom.
The courage, endurance, tenacity, wisdom, determination, hard work and will power by this lady depicted in this drama is from out of this world.
The drama did a great job in portraying the hardships, wars, poverty and social class structure she had to overcome to rise to power. Her love life would interfere with her desire to revenge the injustices she faced. With betrayal and other dynamics playing into her story. I will say she was a remarkable lady and this drama is a "must watch". Well executed, very captivating, inspiring and entertaining.
They both loved her more than their lives, but for Wang Yoo, his country, Goryeo, came before her. For the emperor Togon, Yang came first. However for her, revenge was first. Her decision for revenge is what changed their fates. She would have ended up with Wang Yoo, along with Byul (Maha), and used her brains to fight for her country. The emperor wouldn’t hurt her, much less the father of her child, because he loves her, and much less after what happened with her father. Her decision not to follow Wang Yoo after they left the emperor’s palace was the pivoting moment of the entire story.
I really hate this drama.. I think the producer or whoever it was, was too cruel to Ta Hwang character. Literally from the beginning till the very last his breath.
Ta Hwang never respected since he was teen, even his lil bro dethroned him. Then everyone from his own dinasty tried to kill him. Wangyu, Nyang and gangs saved him only for the sake of Goryeo, not Ta Hwang himself.
When he became emperor, everyone tried to kill him. Even his closest guys eventually gang up to kill him. The most loyal one even betrayed him and ended up died in Ta Hwang's hand.
The most painful was, when he knew he would die, his most beloved woman lied to him about his son. Gosh!!!!! And he only got one sentence as gift in the end of his life, "I love u too"!!!! JUST THAAAATT!!!???

it is a rollercoaster that's why many people loved the drama. if you aren't really knowledgeable about historical drama, you wouldn't really understand and think that what happened at the beginning is unfair - they saved Ta Hwan to save goryeo because the moment ta hwan arrives at wang yu's territory, it is his responsibility to protect him otherwise the kingdom of Ta Hwan would make that as an excuse to wage war against Goryeo which is smaller than mongolia (present name) that was also being exploited by mongolia. everything was political at that time, okay...
Everyone in this drama made sacrifices and suffered. Ta Hwang wasnt the only and he wasnt exactly a present either.
He did everything for the sake of him self and was really selfish. Instead of fighting for freedom and fairness he allowed others to control him until Seung Nyang came with her revenge. He killed her father for his own sake, and he was always obsessed with Yangi trying to keep her by his side. He never though about what she wanted.
And those who cared about his life for the sake of Goryeo, where the ones trying to protect there own people. Wang Yoo wanted to protect his people and land? Wang Yoo wanted to rescue his people from the Emperors area, and he was made with the Emperor for a reason.
They both died and in the end she was all alone. This is really painfull to watch. Imagine how she felt💔
Was never into kdrama. Not my cup of tea, but I'm here only because of Wang Yu. I got fascinated with his performance in 'Frozen Flower' and started following his other works.
Excellent drama. Hats off to all actors and actresses. The whole cast done a great acting. Worth watching. 51 episodes I finished for 2 days and half. Hahaha.. 👏👏👏💞💞💞

This drama does a really good job at portraying how it was to be a consort/concubine at the time. It breaks my heart every time that both men love her but ultimately want her as their possession, even when she’s unwilling. I can’t imagine what that was like to not want a relationship with the emperor but since he’s the one man with ultimate authority/power you can’t say no.
This drama / wang yu reminds me of unchained love. The prince to emperor in that drama was the first time I truly felt so disgusted and uncomfortable.
