    I love how just adding the BB Tubes to a lead vocal and just bumping up the knobs really pulls the vocal forward in the mix. Really solid plugin.

    BB Tubes does add odd and even harmonics within the Beauty and Beast modes, as I've been demo'ing it and I'm liking the results, gonna pull the trigger on it...

    Haven’t spent much time with the J37 but loVe Magma Tubes and used it on a very recent production.
    It hasn’t reached ‘every song’ status like the Renaissance series, but still a very nice sounding plugin.

    Has a fellow producer tell me the power of tape saturation on every track including the 2-Bus. So I loaded up U-He's Satin and placed it on every channel including 2-Bus in the default setting. Set the auto level gain and pressed play. Track sounds way too bright now. Went back and re-routed all channels through a Satin Return set at 50%. Much better results. Now learned that tape saturation is a subtle effect used very sparingly.

    excellent video, as usual. info like flutter is amplitude modulation, and wow is pitch, you can't even find in manuals, when trying to work your way around applying them. there's only marketing bullshit like "flutter is the legendary sound, while wow is character, grit, fatness, smoothness, warmth and roundness".
    i usually go in the tubes first, emulating a preamp on the way to the tape machine, for the "recording" part. then go into the console, through the line preamp, for "mixing". other than that, this is the process i go through on every track. and instead of the tape delay, i will use a live room ir slightly blended in for everything, for some 3d texture, and roundness. it also helps with the mood, the depth, and the way everything sits over each other.
    it's amazing to me how, after all these trials and experiments, the best sound that you can get in the box is the one that actually replicates the big studio analog signal chain. must be a reason for it.

    I really would love to see someone compare this plugin to a real J37. Relab did a direct comparison of their LX480 plugin to a real Lexicon 480L. That takes guts and wish more developers would do the same because lets face it. At some point these old machines will become inoperative, parts will be near impossible to find and techs with the know how to repair and maintain will be long gone.

    Question, do you have to put this chain on every track, or would you be able to apply this technique to the mix buss as a whole, instead of adding it to every individual track?

    • @virgilhughes7837
      @virgilhughes7837 Год назад +1

      The idea is to put it on your mix buss as a whole.

  • @tonyoneandonly

    I'm a bit confused. I understand what you say about deciding what settings I like best for the J 37, making those settings into a preset and putting that preset on every track to get consistency. (After all it only be one J 37 machine recording, (mostly) all the tracks at the same time. So just one machine sound for everything.)
    BUT, what about the BB Tube that comes AFTER the J37 ? Can/should this have different settings for each track?
    please advise. Thanks.

    • @virgilhughes7837
      @virgilhughes7837 10 месяцев назад +2

      It's up to you. Nothing is set in stone. Generally speaking the advise to use the same settings on J37 is to maintain color.
