Great video and awesome 1979 Thunderbird Heritage. I had a 1979 Cougar XR7 the same color with the leather interior. The color was called “Cordovan,” like the popular Cordovan Bass Weejun loafers. The Cougar XR7 had the same instrumentation and climate control air-conditioning. My car had a “Quadraphonic Sound System with Built in CB Radio.” This was the height of the CB craze and the radio volume would decrease when a CB Transmission would come through. I replaced the factory installed rear speakers with Pioneer speakers. The difference in sound quality and depth of range was incredible. Perhaps changing speakers and keeping the original radio on your next car. My car also had an electric moonroof which I thought was really cool. Thank you for taking the time to share.

This is a very nice sample of this generation T-bird. I always considered this generation to be a "down-marketed" and de-contented T-bird compared to what they were before this, but they are a helluva lot better than the terrible ones of the following generation. Nice Bird!

Ah man, this gives me feels. My first car in high school was a gray 77 thunderbird. It wasn't quite as fancy but I did have the split seats with the power driver's and power windows etc. I didn't have the tach. Instead, I had the non-functional clock. Lol I also had the 351M which was also like 129hp. It couldn't get it off its own way. I threw on a dual exhaust, you could definitely hear mine. Man, I miss it.

Ford used acrylic enamel paint - not lacquer. I always liked this generation of Thunderbird and owned a '79 that I drove daily for many years. It was bright red with a white vinyl top, white pin striping and a red cloth interior. Great car. Drove it daily for 8 years and sold for more than I paid for it!!
Your Heritage is a beautiful survivor, take good care of 'er!

The front grille and the taillight setup with the separate reverse light were unique to 1979. The 351W was a bit better than the 351M, which was essentially a slightly smaller 400cid, which was no longer available for the 1979 model year. As for the moonroof option, for whatever reason, I remember seeing them on Mercury Cougar XR-7s more than on Thunderbirds. To this day, I still occasionally have a dream that involves my first car, a 1977 Thunderbird in dove gray color. It was the base model with several power options. Lots of memories, fond and not-so-fond associated with that car.

I sold one one like this with 26k miles and I wish I hadn’t sold it. It’s my color. Mine had the cloth seating, which I prefer only on this model and I love the gold plaque. I had an nos one and had my name inscribed on it. I think they look fantastic. I even found a set of NOS Michelin X tires which just made this car look as if it just rolled off the assembly line. I sure wish I hadn’t sold it but I had over 15 cars in LA at the time and was moving and didn’t have the ability to keep them all but have massive regrets. I kept my 80 Signature Series Mark VI 4 dr in this color, so I still got to enjoy the color. Get car and congrats

Sorry, I just got to the end. Other than year, my car was identical to the one on the cover of the book on the right. Same wheels and everything. Though being a 77, I didn't have the turning lights, and my taillights were full width with the reverse lights above the brake lights not between them. I preferred that look personally. I would love to find one of these in this fine of condition. I actually still had mine up to a few years ago when my mother relocated and I had to get rid of the cars I had at her place as I had nowhere to store them. Lost a 76 Mustang II Mach 1 with the 302 and 4 speed. It was not a great day. Both ran great too.

    Very nice.
Based on my Mark V, the fan speed will go up and down a bit on its own, at least on the middle two settings. Hi is just high...I am forgetting if the low setting will automatically go up a notch when needed, or just stay low.
Besides improving the speakers, the best thing to do with the factory radio, if you ever want one back in, is use an outboard amplifier. I had the head unit with the quadrasonic 8 track player in my Lincoln modified to also provide me with preamp outputs, bypassing the internal amplifier completely when connected to the RCAs that were added (the original connections to the internal amps were kept intact), but some people - if not concerned about purity - will just use tap into the normal output into an external amplifier with speaker level inputs.

Does it have power seats and if so are they multi function? It looked like there was a knob to adjust the side mirror but you failed to mention it. You should have front loaded all the features that were included in the Heritage package. You did mention that your car didn't have the power moon roof. Were there any steering wheel adjustments? The trunk carpet is in amazing shape. Did you shampoo it?
You got a real cream puff when you bought this car. It's a real cruiser with comfortable luxury appointments. The leather interior is in excellent shape. I had a 97 T Bird and when things started going south like the power antenna, moon roof, and slip differential Ford no longer had the parts so I had to go to a third party that charged an arm and a leg. I bought the 97 new but kept it too long. That is my reservation in buying these old cars even when they are really clean low mileage examples. when things start going south get ready to shell out the cash.

These are really nice cars , But strictly for hobby and show . At 12 mpg at today's gas ⛽ prices . Actually driving one of these is strictly for entertainment Not transportation 💰💰 💰💰

Gas was 39.9 a gallon in 1979, could ride in style back then, These rode like silk on the highway, Todays Highway would beat this dam car apart

@@user-vq3dc2se5d Actually, gas prices were around 80 cents a gallon in 1979.

Not where I lived, gas went to 56.9 in 1982, I know what I give for gas because we also sold it, Ethel, Unleaded, Regular gas. It may have been that high where you lived, In 1974 dad sold gas for 25.9 and give the customers back 2 cents a gallon for buying from us, fixed flares for 50 cents, washed there windshield and checked the tires & oil on fill ups or if they asked. Oil change was for cost of oil and filters, Lot of work but we had a good customer base and everything went well

I'd have to disagree. With the 351 engine and 250-something highway rear gears, it more likely gets an average of 16 mpg. Probably can get 17-18 on the highway. That's what I get with my 75 Pontiac Lemans Sport Coupe, a similar size car with 350 Pontiac engine and 2.56 rear gears. But the mileage is not that important. It's actually much more economical to drive an old car like this, than a new one. I bought my Lemans in 2002 for $3800. It had 62K miles on it when I bought it. Now it has close to 200K. So, purchase price was low, and it's paid for, insurance is low, and tags are $20 a year, and I've had it 22 years. Compare that to the cost of ownership of a new or late model vehicle. I've saved tens of thousands of dollars versus the cost of a new car so the gas mileage is inconsequential. I also have a 73 El Camino, and 79 Trans Am. I haven't bought a new car since 1980. Haven't needed to. Plus, a new car starts depreciating the moment you buy it. My old cars are worth more the longer I own them. Those millions of old cars were transportation, and no reason that they can't still be. I've been proving it every day for over 40 years 🙂.

@@grand73am I really like the older cars but your forgetting maintenance and repairs included with the cost of owning one of these . Old Fords are notorious for rear main seal leaks , timing chain replacement , valve guide replacement and carburator and certainly electrical issues under the dash as any other older manufactured vehicle . I currently have a 10 year old vehicle with the Ford Coyote engine 5.0 with 140,000 miles on it and haven't even needed to change the spark plugs yet.
There's something to be said about a well built modern engine that has a much higher quality standard , Then those leaky drippy small block Fords that constantly needed work to go over 50,000 miles . I don't miss those days at all "
