    EXCELLENT review Josh. I especially like the camera work here. I can really see how your use of lighting accentuated the contours of the phone. Little things like the details of the ear speaker, and the way the gorilla glass wraps around the bezels.

    I've been using phablets for the past 3-4 years but I'm buying this phone unlocked to be my daily driver. Other than the size I think it is literally the perfect smartphone. (for me at least)

    Fantastic review, Josh! My wife and I were sitting a few tables down from where you were wrapping this one up in front of Float the other day! The HTC 10 sure looks like a worthy update with solid hardware and an even better Sense experience... Can't wait to see what next Galaxy Note (6?) has in store for us later this year however. I'll be glued to Android Authority to help me make that purchasing decision after all is said and done! 👍😆

      Zac Kirstein i havent , but he has ,
      also comparing it to other flagships , it has an average sized battery , no water proofing , no wireless charging , dont get me wrong it looks good , but its up against some stiff competition, on features alone its behind the eight ball imo .

    They actually listened to us. For the M8 we asked them to just remove the logo bar and make the camera good. Everything else about the M7 was dead on.
    Hopefully it's not too late, HTC.. you took a really long time to listen to what customers wanted. I have an S6E+ and it's absolutely epic. I'm wondering if I ever want to buy another phone.
    The only thing I didn't like was the launcher but I love the extra features. Installed the Google Now launcher, bought a stock Android icon pack/theme and it's perfect.

  • @andrewsmylie2205
    @andrewsmylie2205 8 лет назад +5

    Think people overplay the HTC thing. I mean the Desire and Desire S were very well received, the One, and One M8 were both considered best/2nd best android phones of their time. Its only the One M9 which was poor, and even then, they just did what Apple and Samsung had been doing for years and been praised for. They just refined the M8, and got the camera wrong, still hardly an awful phone. Having said that, had I been smart and signed up for O2 refresh, I'd be slapping my money down now for the 10.

      @TheJoeHindy 8 лет назад +5

      There are several hundred smartphones released every year. We give it to about 2-3 dozen of them, roughly 10%. Just cuz you guys don't know about every device that gets launches doesn't change the scope of our choices

    • @iamantoine2
      @iamantoine2 8 лет назад

      +Joseph Hindy Guys, don't get me wrong. What I said was meant as a joke. I greatly appreciate your work, you make very qualitative videos. I actually think that with MKBHD you are the best tech channel. Of course the HTC 10 deserves to be an editor's choice, I think it's excellent too, finally. However I don't understand why for instance the One M9+ (among others) is an editor's choice too. You were perhaps too positive about it. The phone is far from great. Boomsound and the design (including hardware and software) are rather nice but 3 years old. The display is ok. The perf and camera are really bad. But well, it doesn't really matter at the end, everyone has an opinion, the channel is still great and thank you very much for that.

    • @TheJoeHindy
      @TheJoeHindy 8 лет назад

      Antoine Chardonnens well old design doesn't necessarily mean bad eh? It's unfortunate really, because Sony has the same problem. So much focus on the outside that it doesn't matter what's within. The M9 series devices were top notch on the inside (except the camera), and that seems to have been overshadowed by, ironically, the least important part of the device: what it looks like. The design is eye candy, but actually has no function aside from housing the parts. I'm no device reviewer, but in my honest opinion, looks don't matter much.

    damn all I want is an HTC m9 with a better camera and cpu. I understand that only a few people use the ir blaster, but why not include it ? there's a huge space on top of that phone. it would have been cool if they have the boomsound setup like the m9 and they put the fingerprint reader on the HTC logo on the black bars in the m9. still it's a great start. not a phone for me though as the placement of the new 3.5mm Jack is on top and I find that a hassle since I always put my phone top first in my pocket so when I pull it out, I don't have to flip the phone. nice design but not well thought.

    I have enjoyed HTC product line since the Sensation and was actually surprised by the M7. I worked in the wireless industry for many years and had my choice of just about any phone at a significantly discounted price and at times no cost. So, getting a new phone was never a cost issue nor was it a time issue as in waiting for an up grade to become available to get a new phone.
    I have had Samsung, Apple, Motorola, and LG phones and I sold them as well. Still I choose HTC as my daily driver. My customers would be perplexed when they would ask me "well what phone do you have" and often were surprised when I did not have a Apple or Samsung device on me.
    I did not have the luxury of being a total "fanboy" of one company over the next however, I told my customers what each phone does well, good, best, and badly including HTC. What I found out people; 75% of them make buying decisions off of peer pressure 15% off of brand loyalty and being familiar with the OS, and 10% off of aesthetics.
    I get no monthly stipend from any phone company nor am I fanatical about a particular brand. HTC just works for me and I will own this model and support them as long as their product meets my needs. I could care less what anyone around my pulls out of their pocket or give validity to their statements about HTC going bankrupt. I own the Sensation, M7, M8, M9, and soon the 10 when it is made available for my carrier.

    Josh has one of the best reviewing voices, like he should be on radio or voiceovers on movies and commercials. I like his new age hippy style reviews with the laid back music in the background. As far as the HTC 10 it's better than the previous HTC devices, but not better than current flagships in my opinion. "And so, there you have it" -Josh Vergara

      Yet they been winning since the M7. People don't like to switch to it because it's not a well popularized brand. Everyone wants what's in. They don't want to be left out. Only reason I sold my M7 is because I didn't like the camera. Shit was super smooth and quick though.

      +Bruce Wayne I have what I consider to be pretty decent ear buds, the klipsch s4ii for android. love them for what they are, fairly affordable and sound pretty good. my biggest grip is that the cable jacket where the jack gets put in the phone is starting to split because it's constantly bending down from hanging down behind my phone. if it was at the bottom, it would hang naturally and this wouldn't be an issue.

    • @JaySee5
      @JaySee5 8 лет назад +14

      +robhimself79 Agreed. Putting the USB plug on the bottom is equally stupid. Headphone jack on bottom center, USB on top. This allows headphones pointed at the user and charging cable pointed away when being charged on a desk. It also allows universal compatibility to speaker docks.

    Glad to see:
    > Screen size under 5.3 (though generally prefer 5.1 or under)
    > Sense UI
    > Headphone port on top
    > Chamfered edges
    > 3000mAh battery
    > Fast charging
    > Continued focus on audio quality
    > Improved camera with image stabilization (on both cams!)
    Sorry to see:
    > A loss of stereo/front-facing speakers (though very likely I'll hear this model and be just fine)
    > "Bubble glass" (don't know what else to call the protruding
    glass/screen). Don't like the distracting reflections it casts, reminds
    me of the cheap $30 phones and tablets you can buy which are made of
    plastic vs. glass for their screens which too show a lot of weird
    reflections around the edges.
    >Static navigation buttons vs. dynamic
    > Onscreen buttons (back, home, cascade) are not vertically centered within black/empty space.
    Would have loved to see:
    > A gunmetal/brushed nickle finish
    > Qi/electromagnetic-inductive charging
    > Power port on the side vs. the bottom
    > Kickstand
    > Modular or removable batteryStill an HTC fan, but they need to start listening to their fans and hit the
    next one out of the park with features mentioned above.

      +Hm Khn It's because usb c will (hopefully) be everywhere in a few years, but the problem now is that it's nearly nowhere. But the more companies that pick it up (not just phones), the sooner it will be everywhere.

    The main thing HTC needed to nail was the camera, and they did that. If it can at least match the performance of the S7 or G5, then that's more than enough (and perhaps more than I was expecting). I think this will be my upgrade from the M8 after all.

    This is a gorgeous phone! I'm looking forward to get one, which means I'll have to get a job and save some cash, hehe. I really like that HTC didn't keep up with that ridiculous trend of turning a new flagship into a 5.5-inch screen device. For us with small hands, it's even more incomprehensible since flagships are supposed to appeal to everyone who appreciates the best a company can sell, and phablets should always come as an optional variation of that. I've liked HTC from the beginning. I remember wanting an HTC One X back in the day.

The Samsung has the best camera but for example, when you click on the Hour on the Home Screen, it doesn't take you to your alarms or clock.. little things like that are what makes me love my HTC.. I loved my HTC One so much, that I still have it to use as a mini tablet. Unfortunately for HTC, I had to purchase a new smartphone prior to the launch of the Ten. My 3 year old One has very poor battery life & will be unusable in a few months. The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge came out at just the right time. I had my tax return and was able to hang on to it for over a month in order to pre-order it. The free Gear VR was nice too. I'll keep HTC in mind for the next device, but they simply missed the boat this time around.

    I like this phone... After a Moto G2, Moto X 2014 (major failure - did not keep it long), a Note 3 (hand-me-down - used it 'til it died, though), a Razr, and a succession of clamshells before that, this is very different indeed! When the G2 needed replacement, my power user needs had to go back to more the flagship route this time...With the Note 7 fiasco, and the front facing stereo speaker clad (I got spoiled with the G2 on that) X Pure now out of production and on limited support, that left the Moto Z...After seeing the Z's lack of a standard headphone jack, slippery, fingerprint-attracting flat back, and that expensive modular stereo option (Really? No case made for this puppy!), my Moto brand loyalty choices were going South fast! I wasn't all that hip on the lack of SD support on the new Google Pixel units, although I'd have the pure Android experience that I more or less already enjoyed with Motorola...I really liked the layout of the LG V20 - a power user's dream, but it was just too L-A-R-G-E! There was also the SS Galaxy S7, but that didn't offer any front-facing (or stereo) on-board speakers, no headphone enhancement without first installing a third-party EQ app, and the TouchWiz interface closes out the adoptable storage option on Marshmallow ---- Besides, my sister already had an S7, and I really wanted to be different ---- Then a couple of friends each took me on a walk-through of their HTC One M8 and One M7 (with the M8 owner in the process of trading up to the new U Ultra)...I liked what I saw with the HTC Sense interface, the decent camera (@ least the one on the M8) and especially - the BoomSound individually amped front-facing speakers and DAC headphone amp that knocked my socks off! I then did some research, and looked at the HTC 10 at Verizon...I was happy when I heard the adoptable storage on Marshmallow was supported on the newer Sense...I had to make a compromise with the different speaker configuration, but it's still BoomSound, headphone jack and all...That was it - Goodbye Moto...Hello HTC!

      No, i understand there has to be some sort of bezel but look at this phone ( and the a9 ) next to like an s6,or s7,or note 5 there is still that unnecessary black strip on the bottom of the screen that makes the phone taller and just eats up space, and people have been wanting it gone since the m8

    • @vanillahotcreamz
      @vanillahotcreamz 8 лет назад

    Something i never see reviewers talk about (because you probably want to keep the phones in good condition) is how tough the phones are. I have had an m7 and now an m9 and I BEAT THE CRAP out of those phones. I recently dropped my m9 onto concrete from 6 feet. It hit its corner but with the exception of a small dent the phone is fine. I have seen iPhones break in peoples pockets without a case.
    Not saying HTC makes the best phones and don't know how tough this new one is but most people i know put a case on their phones after their first big fall. Where i have been case less for 3 years :D

      I just think its something they could mention that would be an interesting note in their videos. and i already agreed with the second part of your argument. by the time their full reviews come out they could have checked out a drop test video and mentioned that the phone can take a fall or not. with out damaging the phones they use.

    Blech, the camera is still a dealbreaker for me. From my HTC One M8 I have lots of photos with flare and just overall terrible lighting. Also after a few months the camera launch has seriously slowed down. Now, after 2 years it takes about 10 seconds for the camera to launch. I end up missing lots of awesome photos, because you really need that camera app to launch within a second or two in some situations. I'll be going onto Samsung next.
