    *This is a Radio Controlled Atomic Clock.* As stated at 1:16 and implied during our Basic User Tutorial, but I neglect to state this at 2:07. It's also missing from the intro text, as "Radio Controlled" would have driven text into your view of the watch.

      Thanks for the update Pat. I think the whole radio/atomic thing is country/continent dependent, nice if its available not a deal breaker (unless ++expensive). End of the day, if you glance at your watch and the time is out, you make an adjustment .. yeah added 30-secs to my month ... :o)

      Oh, so very clever, haha. The finishing *is on par,* but the movement isn't from the original 9S series nor does it have nearly as good a bracelet (non integrated). I'm a Seiko collector: the 9S55 movement was a return to "Mechanical" Grand Seiko's after over twenty-five years. Still, thank you for the offer!
      PS-Though the newest 9S movements outshine mine, the history here is more important to me. Only company that I care about "heritage."

    Bought 3 years ago: NEVER adjusted, NEVER set DST, never charged or battery issues, always precise o the second! - Top level design (except for the "TOUGH MVT." logo on front) - After 3 years, I can check time everywhere: on the car, on clocks on walls or in the streets, but if I want to be SURE and I want to be precise TO THE SECOND, I always check my Casio Oceanus! - GO CASIO!

    Nick Shabazz presented the Odeanus on a review of his and mentioned the types of collectables and usables that he appreciates. He showed several expensive and wonderful watches and from watching his knife presentation videos I knew that his regular job is as a scientist. I thought I was done buying watches as I have a bit of an oddball collection of watches which includes my, "go-to," Tag Hauer which is pretty nice looking, simple and accurate. Will not detail my collection herein. Just saying that it was the features, for the money and the amazingly simple presentation that was just so elegant that had me decide to part with the money of good faith that a non-USA piece demands. I've worn it a lot lately and even slept with it. That will wear that finish down a bit. But I want to test the watch and its band and back to see how this art object tht is exceptionally light, holds up. Casio has nicked me before a couple of times. This is potentially the most handsome homerun they've ever delivered.

    I guess the reason why the upper link in the watch strap is integrated into the watch case itself is to increase the strength of the transition between the watch strap and the watch case. By allowing the fastening pin to have extra support in the middle, it will also withstand greater loads. This solution is difficult to achieve without having visible holes on the side. At least I think it's easier to accept the holes once I understand why they are there.

    I don't know how this weird urban myth started that the zaratsu cases for Casio and Grand Seiko are made in the same factory. When I bought my Oceanus, in Japan, I asked the salesman if it was true. He looked surprised and said no, they are made in separate prefectures. My understanding - I may be wrong - is that they both, along with Citizen, make everything in-house. BTW, I LOVE my Oceanus.

    Nice review. Just got mine today after a worldwide trip from Japan. What a nice watch. Somewhat underwhelming at first look. After I resize dthe bracelet (PITA!) I got it on my wrist and I was surprised at how light and thin it is, just as you mentioned. Put back on a 40mm NTH Nacken and for a minute, it felt like a tank. The Casio is very svelte and a great wear-all-the-time watch. The integrated bracelet is a pain, but I have so many watches that having one that is bracelet-only isn't a deal breaker. You could easily have a custom strap made if you really wanted.......which is something I'll probably do at some time.

    Wonderful review. I just received my Oceanus Tuesday this week from Seiya (excellent service BTW) & I couldn't be happier. I was eyeing my first "nice" watch for a long time & had considered the Black Bay 36 as well as the Ball Engineer II. I'm so happy I did not wind up purchasing those and that I came across the Oceanus. Not only did I save a lot of money, but I'm convinced I received a product of higher quality in terms of fit and finish. You'd be hard pressed to beat the Oceanus in overall quality for anything less then 2K-3K USD in my honest opinion.

    For such a radio-controlled watch, I personally prefer and proudly own the Citizen Atessa Eco-Drive watch. Comes in regular and black-coated titanium. It is also has a non-busy elegant dial as Casio does. Comes in DLC coated titanium bracelet and dial with the better-defined highly-polished indices and frame around the date window. These radio-controlled, light-powered, and super-precise watches, which newer need new batteries, are such a bargain! These two are exquisite and lightweight too! I personally prefer them to the majority of mechanical Yester-era watches.

    Hi Pat, good review. I like the watch a lot and have been thinking about this purchase for a little while - I like water resistance, solar power and class (mixed grouping, I know). I agree the lettering on the dial 'tough ..something.." is not what I want to see on the face of this classy watch , maybe "sapphire" , "radio" or "accurate" is better. It's a great technical package; accurate, sapphire, titanium, 100m. I have a Citizen that's similar that also has the integrated bracket, which limits the look to the factory finish and prevents simple changes. If Casio made a few "small" changes,from a buyer point of view, text on watch face, include a way for simple bracelet/band changes I think it could dominate.

I guess in terms of genre, this is a good professional looking watch, for smart casual to semi-formal occasions. I love Titanium. I like its characteristics, but I also like titanium symbolically. It is a relatively cheap and non precious metal yet from an engineering viewpoint, very strong and light weight. So immensely valuable from an engineering viewpoint, but per kilogram far cheaper than gold or silver.

      Thank you for your take on the elements. The real thing of beauty in a man-made creation is the form and function and the art of development and execution and then the endurance of the piece. It's the angling. This particular module uses a system that keeps the second hand perfectly aligned. If it ever does fall off track, it will automatically adjust. When I had it, it fell perfectly on the minute marks. Also, when comparing cases, we're only looking at the quality of the polished finishing. *Thank you* and Glen, yes, haha.

    How long does the power reserve last you? Where I live, winter is pretty long so my current Seiko Solar watch with a V157 (which supposedly has 10mo reserve, doubt it) battery dies out at some point towards December/January despite my efforts to keep it charged. During the summers, I keep it charged all the time and in sunlight whenever I can so as to keep the solar battery charged.
    I only spent $300 on that Seiko, but the Oceanus S100 will run me $700 CAD. I really don't want to deal with the headache of worrying about if the watch will make it through winters or not - what are your experiences w the power reserve specifically?

    I like your review although you can't say it is an atomic clock, it is connected to an atomic clock via radio waves, it will adjust time via this connection but if that connection is lost it cannot keep time the same as an atomic clock and will loose time at the same rate as a quartz timepiece, thought this information was pretty relevent for anybody thinking this is the be all and end all for timekeeping.

      @@TakeTimewPatrickMarlett I did, you state it is a 'radio controlled atomic clock' this is not true, also you didn't state that it doesn't even work in the southern hemisphere, an atomic clock would operate wherever you built it (varience would occur), facts are important, I am sure Casio would disagree with you calling it an atomic clock.

    • @TakeTimewPatrickMarlett
      @TakeTimewPatrickMarlett  6 лет назад

      support.casio.com/storage/en/manual/pdf/EN/009/qw5235.pdf - Page 2, Casio’s words: “Radio Controlled Atomic Timekeeping.” I will not delve into semantics with you, but *I do not think Casio* would be that heartbroken. You are able to manually adjust the time as well as receive sync signals from the built-in radio antenna for automatic timekeeping with multiband support. It is not suggested as the end all “timekeeper” - that would be my Grand Seiko - it’s just a darn close one.

    Looks like my SARB033. That tough movement logo at 6 o’clock is a no gamer for me. Rather than having to use a pin tool to adjust the time zone, they should’ve used a matching button at 1 o’clock. Along with not being able to replace the bracelet with a leather strap is another thumbs down. Hopefully Casio will step it up with an improved or different model.

    Was that Mox Diamond double sleeved? Lol, perfect choice of a card to exhibit reflections. I myself bought 4 of them last year when they were 70 bucks and I complained at how expensive they were. TCGplayer has them listed at 200 each! Watch and MTG Connoisseur! Subscribed.

    • @TakeTimewPatrickMarlett
      @TakeTimewPatrickMarlett  6 лет назад

      I’ve doubled sleeved my Commander, yeah. 🧙‍♂️ My deck has a few cards that I can’t afford to damage, so the whole of it gets sleeved, haha. Odd that the combo cards that actually win the game cost less than a dollar when put together, but every way to get them is $$$. I just spent $80 on a real great, Survival of the Fittest. I remember when it was far less. 😑 Same with Diamond too. I played years ago, but some friends dragged me back into it. We mostly play Cube & Commander now.

    • @Z3NBluster
      @Z3NBluster 6 лет назад +1

      Take Time, w/Patrick Marlett Survival of the Fittest with Varolz? That's nasty! I like it! Do you have Birthing Pod in it too? I play Commander as well, I've got Scion of the Ur-Dragon as my Commander and you're definitely right, I've got cheap combo pieces like Worldgorger Dragon and Animate Dead(sort of cheap) to get infinite mana, then dump them into Hellkite Charger for infinite combat steps.

    • @TakeTimewPatrickMarlett
      @TakeTimewPatrickMarlett  6 лет назад

      I have a Birthing Pod, but it's not in this particular deck... 90% of my cards are 3 CMC or less, so a Pod sequence wouldn't go too far, haha. I think there are... Ten mana dorks and six rocks to accelerate my mana gain. The deck should win on turn three, always. With the right hand, maybe turn one and possibly two. Obviously, barring I'm playing a game of solitaire. The deck is really shaping up though! This is a new one... I have been playing 5 color Hulk for a while, but Golgari seems to be the fastest approach. Sans *Flash,* believe it or not... I do miss my Flash/Rector into Omniscience strategy though, haha. Tutor all my Tutors and play Seasons Past. Go for the win after that.

    It's an amazing watch, massively high quality, and I love Casio... But that intro itself where you swap the GS for the Oceanus is the perfect way to show why it's NOT a rival to it. That GS is simply so much more beautiful that I would sacrifice any kind of radio reception, solar, GMT - basically all of the great features of the Casio just for those looks. What a difference.
