Fell in love with album cover before ever hearing the wondrous music inside. Could never understand why this lovely lady has only a cult following. It's true that you're never appreciated in your own lifetime, especially true with those, like Sandy, who died young. She deserves so much more recognition for all the beautiful and meaningful work she left behind.
THIS has ALWAYS been my favourite. It is the most honest and has a amazing voice and her superficially wierd but evocative lyrics that feel meaningful. And if you read the latest biogr., you can find the references. Her effortless command of English merges with her intuitive feel for folk music and abiity to blend it with the liveliest time for rock. Then combined with her sublime voice and instincts produces this wonder.
@@modelleg If you never got at answer: Probably Mick Houghton. I've Always Kept a Unicorn - The Biography of Sandy Denny. Faber & Faber, 2015; ISBN 0571278914. I'll have to read that myself!
Sandy Denny - lead vocals, Jerry Donahue - electric guitar Richard Thompson - acoustic guitar Pat Donaldson - bass Gerry Conway - drums Ian Whiteman - piano , flute organ
The recent biography shows how hard it is to "make it' in the music business, maybe especially when one is a true talent and a genuine person. Brilliance mixed with choices that look unwise in retrospect, but how many of us make no mistakes? And how frustrating it must have been to be told how wonderful she was, and yet have such a struggle in her career and life. Her voice is never too high, unlike some of her then famous contemporaries. Thanks for posting. I will have to get this new CD, to add to my LP and an old CD of it.
I'm looking at and hearing my youth -- floating somewhere over the Atlantic, not Europe, not America. It's a fairy song, this. It comes back by way of the Realm.
She creates her own atmosphere with her voice and band that is ethereal and a feeling of mystery and intrigue. What kind of a place is she in with the album cover photo? Is that an herbal medicine or homeopathic type of drug store?
The Jedi don't understand and can't manipulate, so they don't distribute. It's that simple. I don't mind being part of the cognoscenti and the REALLY enlightened ones!
Hi Mary! This lovely version you can find on: 1. CD North Star Grassman & The Ravens [Import, Original recording remastered] 2007 or 2009, track № 10, 2. North Star Grassman & The Ravens, 2СD Delux Edition, 2011, track № 10. Best Wishes, :)

Not everyone who is enlightened has gone to the dark side. I can stand the light!

truly wonderful........thanky
Just finished Richard Thompsons book.his friendship with Sandy was a strong one but he couldn't avoid seeing her frailties.
She was a sincere artist.

If you are a serious music fan, you must own this album. If you don't, please respectfully never claim to be a true music fan. Do we have a deal? :o)
