@@Poke-ladd I'm sure Ainz can revive Zanac, but what would be the point? Ainz had intended to kill Zanac anyways and even promised that his and his troops' deaths would be as quick and painless as possible. Ainz delivered on that promise for the troops, sans those that betrayed Zanac. If Ainz were to revive anyone, it would be treacherous nobles. And that is only so that they can be slowly tortured and killed again. Good thing for them that Ainz lost interest in the whole affair.

In the Light Novel, Zanac had thoughts that the drink might have been poisoned, which is why he didn’t want to drink it. So by the end of the meeting, him downing it with no hesitation showed that he was prepared to die anyway, and that he trusted Ainz words. It’s ironic that both Ainz and Zanac look to each other as the example of a leader that they should aspire to be, that in his last moments, Zanac thought to himself that he was a king fighting for his people’s happiness. If Ramposa had left to throne to his second son much earlier, the Kingdom would have prospered and survived as a Vassal State to the Sorceror Kingdom.
The kingdom was always doomed though. All the people that Ramposa should have listened to (Gazef, Zanac, and nobles who were afraid after the initial massacre on the plains) he ignored. He might have been a good person, but he was a terrible king and terrible parent. His first son was practically shaped by nobles, which is why he was so arrogant and stupid. He basically ignored his second son, in favour of his first born. He married off his first and second daughters to appease nobles, and although cared for Renner, didn’t involve her in any royal politics. Gazef told him outright that they shouldn’t fight against Ainz Oal Gown at all, but as a commoner, his words held no weight against all the nobles who wanted to confront him, so he ignored Gazef’s words, and ended up losing his greatest soldier and a large portion of his army. He was so desperate to correct his mistake and get Gazef back, that he smacked the Kingdom’s Astrologer in the face when she said that she could not revive Gazef (due to Ainz placing a revival lock spell on his body). This should have been the time where no action will ever be taken against Ainz, and if he was a smarter king, he would have recognised his other son’s talents by now, and Zanac would be ruling the Kingdom. It took Jircniv a long time to take away all the power from the nobility in his Kingdom, but he ended up doing it sooner than was expected thanks to Fluder. A genuinely smart and competent individual like Zanac, and a genuis like Renner, could have easily done the same thing, possibly even quicker. The second an idiot like Philip made a move, Ramposa should have listened to his son and that one noble that said they should offer up Philip to the Sorceror Kingdom as an apology, and pledge allegiance to them. (Unbeknownst to them, Nazarick was looking for an excuse to attack anyway, so it might have been too late by then).
It’s sad that, after their elder brother “went missing”, Zanac and Renner actually started to grow closer to each other. They ate lunch together and talked more. Renner is a twisted individual, but I think, in his last few months, she really did care for her middle brother. Prince Zanac; the king the Kingdom needed but didn’t deserve. What an amazing character, and the gap between what he looks like and how he acts is great. You’d think he’d be a slimy guy, but he’s the most respectable person in the entire Kingdom.
One great thing the anime did, is that after he saw Zanac’s head, all his kingly disposition was gone. He normally takes great care in sitting down regally and talking like a noble, but after the Zanac reveal, he slumped in his seat, and talked completely normally, even waving his hand casually as acknowledgment of hearing the nobles.
It’s also the double whammy of disrespecting two people Ainz held in high regard. Not only did they disrespect Zanac by killing him in such a barbaric manner, and not even having the courtesy to respect his body, while also taking away Ainz’s promise to him to give him a quick and merciful death, they disrespected Gazef Stronoff, but sullying the armour he wore and leaving it lying on the floor in some tent. Ainz experienced hot fury against Foresight when they lied about his guild mates (but still gained some respect back when he saw their loyalty to each other), but his cold fury against these nobles was even worse, because there’s no need for the undead emotional inhibitor to activate. He’s not showing extreme emotions, and how he acted was too fitting for an undead. All his interest in this massacre was gone when the only person of interest to him was murdered in such a horrible manner, by his own people.
Like many people have referenced, this was a real “HE WAS A CONSUL OF ROME!!!” moment that Julius Caesar had.
…man I love Overlord so much!

Honestly, I wish the nobles knew just how badly they fucked up killing their king, from their perspective, they just earned themselves eternal torment for trying to save their own skins, but imagine learning that if they had let their king live, there was a small, tiny possibility of the kingdom itself being spared.

@@ChibiReviews "Ainz almost had a change of heart"
This is not true. AInz STILL planned to commit genocide in regards to the kingdom, only letting a small group live, which ONLY happened due to Nigredo and Petsonya's request. And that aspect is what I liked about the concept of the original LN, since it what sets it apart from MANY other issekai, and that is in the fact that Ainz is UNDOUBTEDLY a villain, since one of his goals is to try to dominate this new world. For instance, in Season 1 when Ainz was prepared to murder Niferea in when his identity as Momon was almost found out. Another example, is the UNPROVOKED attack on the lizard men led by Ainz in season 2 that cost countless lives for their species, and it was all done for experimentation for Ainz, it's also worth keeping in mind that the ONLY reason that Ainz decided to show mercy to the Lizardmen was due to Coctyus's request, which led to the situation we are in now where the Lizardmen aren't following Ainz now out of love, but fear, since they know first hand what he and his army of Nazarick are capable of, and we see more of that fear being shown from them in the later volumes. Next, is the attack on Re Estize kingdom led by Demiruge, which again, similar to the Lizardman was an UNPROVOKED attack led by Ainz crew that caused the death of not only countless soldiers of the kingdom, but men AND children as well. Heck, Demiurge kidnaps women and FORCES them to cross breed with other species for experimentation, which is essentially rape, and Ainz will NEVER actively punish him for it, since in the Light Novel he's stated time and time again that the denizens of Nazarick will ALWAYS have more value then the people of this new world. So here we have protagonist that's caused genocide for his own SELFISH reasons, and will CONTINUE TO DO SO in future arcs, and has subordinates that aren't above doing more bad things, such as rape ( Demiurge, and Shalltear fall into this rape category, though over 90% of the denizens of Nazarick are evil beings that enjoy the suffering of humans, just don't rape them with a few exceptions like Sebas who is morally good) so all this effectively makes Ainz a dictator on the same level as Hitler. However, what seperates Ainz from MANY other villains in fiction is that he isn't one dimensional as we see the man show compassion for those around him, even if it's primarily reserve with those in Nazarick, and he also has flaws in the fact that he struggles to be a competant leader for them, Making him a complex villain, up there with Griffith. It's a change of pace to what I usually see and it's glorious.

I think they might show the escape of blue rose next episode. It only happened during the meeting of blue rose with somebody. What they skipped might be the showcase of the sheer number of kingdom's troops. But all they had are the commoners holding their farming tools. The number is 500 thousand "soldiers".

As an anime only, Overlord is top 5 anime for me, and the fact that it's imperfect and with a lot of cut content according to every ln reader, that just speaks volume of how good the story really is.

  • @joeatnara7518
    @joeatnara7518 2 года назад +1

There was a lot of cut content, that did not mean much in the end, but added a lot of depth. Like when the meeting was over between Zanack and Ainz, Zanack waited by his horse, while Ainz cleaned up the table and the chairs (thrones). This was so that Zanack would not mount his horse and "look down" upon the Sorcerer's King. This is one King saving the face of another King. A little detail that I loved in the novel, but since anime has only 22 minutes, oh well cut content.

i loved this episode soooo much ^^ the tone of voice at the end perfectly conveys how ainz feels to me eventough he has no facial expressions. He respected Zanac and saw him as a true King. When the realises they backstabbed him for their own gain Ainz boils inside and is reminded of awful backstabbing that happened in his job life back in the real world. Its one of the rare instances where Ainz actively WANTS someone to suffer. Truely and fully suffer for their actions. And I think its wonderfully underlined how much he respected Zanac when he goes from intending to give everyone a merciful death to fully loosing intrest and telling Cokytus, who is still feeling in desperate need to prove he learned from his mistakes with the Lizardmans, and Mare, who spent all the time of this war so far practising his mass destruction skills and magic and sees this as his final trial to prove what he learned, to just go ham and use all they got. For me that send shivers through me, 2 floor guardians let of the leash, able to use their full power and both in the mindset of having to prove how well they can murder absolutely everyone and let not a single one escape as ainz said.

Admirable, Ainz Ooal Gown respected him for that & looked forward to the kingdoms final stand. The cowards in Zanac court didn't have the same resolve as him in spite of the fact that he would face Ainz Ooal Gown wrath on the frontlines alongside his countrymen. Had he taken over the kingdom sooner, I have no doubt that he & Ainz could have reached some kind of mutual agreement between their two countries.

Like always as a light novel reader of overlord and probably my favorite series but most definitely top 3 it just impossible for animators to cover complete pages of overlord.I mean you can look at the audio book of each volume it's about 8 to 11 hours of content that's just impossible to cover all those things given 3 to 5 episodes a volume. As a light novel reader I always smile when I watch overlord even though there's alot of things skipped in the anime I'm just happy we have an anime. This also volume 14 they have 6 episodes to cover this the most they had for a volume and this scene with ainz and Zanac they delivered when ainz said all he wants is happiness i got goosebumps same way when I read it in the light novel.

Yeah this was a really good episode. The character movement and the VA work was perfect.
Though I wish there was a bit more in the dialogue between Zanac and Ainz.
(Granted this excerpt was what I had read before vol 14 was officially translated.)
Basically Zanac asked if Ainz’s actions were not already sufficient in making his point. Ainz then retorts “I thought my demonstration on the Katze Plains was already sufficient in dissuading opposition, and yet a noble from your kingdom still challenged me.”
Zanac understood and agreed that Ainz is justified to take action in response, but still demanded to know why Ainz is responding in such an extreme way.
Ainz explained “Perhaps if I accept your surrender it would grant my kingdom some years of peace, but how many? A decade, maybe two, or possibly even a century? However what about those that come later, those that did not experience firsthand my kingdom’s wrath? Would they understand, or would they grow bold and repeat history just as that noble did? I don’t want to fight any more than I need to, which is why I want to make a message that is plain for any fool to understand. A constant reminder that will not fade into history and ensure that my children will be able to enjoy their peaceful days of happiness for many centuries to come.”
Zanac after hearing those words found it hard to argue with Ainz any further.
I know it’s not in the official English translation, but that was a scene I thought really enriched their conversation.

@@mikexhotmail 1st of all, calm down.
2nd- Your argument doesn't make any sense.
A-There are people in the past that kill each other for no justifiable reason. Is it okay for people of modern time to do the same?
B- Ains is no longer human externally. Even if you count internally, he literally have god-like power to do different things than those kingdoms. He have the possibility to innovate new era without resort to cruel methods. So, no, "he just join their party" doesn't work.
C- "Isn't it more evil when human kill their own kind?" Says who? Says what school of philosophy? Says which religion?
3rd- By your 2nd comment, you admit Ainz is also a villain. Then, what makes him morally superior to other villain in this story? Is it because of his virtuos acts, I have to excuse his evil deeds?
I feel like you misunderstood my previous comment. A protagonist isn't necessarily a morally good character, that is a massive misconception. A protagonist is the center character of the story, regardless of moral standing. Antagonist is the one that oppose him/her.
and I know how shitty the world Ainz originally came from. It doesn't excuse him. I'm not saying he is a bad written character.
I'm saying he a piece of shit villain. Kinda funny, I don't necessarily hate villains. I like them occasionally like Dio for easy example. Yuuki Terumi for a more niche example. These two are no way excuseable for their vice but I still like them.
      Not Ainz tho.

Personally I think the season has been a bit rushed, with a lot left out. But this episode was great. From Shalltear acting like a school girl guessing Ains true intentions, to the Blue Rose back ground we got to see, and all of that. Zanac's death was the death of a king. He could have run, but he didn't. He went out there expecting to die and only had a bit of regret about how it all went. In the end, it wasn't a failing on his part, it was just the way the kingdom was set up, or had evolved, with the nobles valuing themselves above all others. Zanac's death was a lot like Foresight's death. You wished it could have been different, but the series was true to itself. Reminds me of way of the early Dick Tracy comic strips, where the rule was anyone could die. Or a bit like the Whale and Plant in Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy; you felt for the character's death.

All TV-shows, or movies, have three main reasons why they are good or bad. The story arc, the character-arc and the visual-audio ambiance.
The Overlord anime is very much a character-arc and visual-audio ambiance show and both these aspect are excellent.
The story-arc is not too shabby, but apart from some humour from Ainz it’s very standard. The characters on the other hand are magnificent. Even the lizard man mini-story-arc really got you to engage with the lizard characters in a way that other shows would not. I also personally like the animation, or at least the look of the characters.

chibi the rest of blue rose attacking and charming the leader happens in her final meeting with renner which should be next episode. the content they cut from the meeting was her uncle bringing up that there was an undead that was worshipped in the theocracy.

The one scene i love in this ep is the one Ainz talk to the prince, that scene i didnt expect much, i love this in novel so much, but often anime cannot express the emotions as much as novel, but this go beyond what i expect it, just love it so much, for me 9/10

I love how most of Overlord Fan's worship Ainz as much as the NPC of Nazarick does.

They even reinterpret his actions and try to change reality to make him look better, just like the NPCs. :D

Overlord is a 9.5 out of 10. The only reason it doesnt get a perfect 10 is because you have to read the light novel (or Aninews Audio Books) to get the full aspect of the show

The scene that they beat up Lakyus was not this one dude.
It's the meeting with Renner's group.
