  • In this video, I want to show you how I made a hanging cat bed with macrame yarn. This is an easy macrame cat bed since I only used two knots for it.
    Make sure you also check out my blog post for more photos and details about measurements:

    MATERIALS USED:
    • macrame cord amzn.to/3kvnQ5E
    • scissors
    • two 18-inch metal hoops amzn.to/2OaGvY8 (the video lists 20-inch hoops which was a mistake since I originally bought the wrong ones by accident)
    • wood beads are optional ((I already had mine and can't find the exact same ones but you could try rstyle.me/+S5j3RYoFhTzPlYeaHR... or rstyle.me/+S5j3RYoFhTzPlYeaHR... or rstyle.me/+abJ9wUWk_rU9CdUmlC... or rstyle.me/+abJ9wUWk_rU9CdUmlC...
    • 18-inch round pillow amzn.to/3kuywRT
    • plant hook to mount bed to the wall amzn.to/37SLhAW
    • measuring tape
    • small clamps optional amzn.to/3dR3EK2

    0:54 continue with rows of Vertical Lark's Head Knots all the way around the hoop
    3:14 this is called a Gathering Knot Method, you could also just wrap yarn around the strands and tie them with a standard knot
    5:33 I knotted all 4 strands down to 5 inches long.
    6:40 add another square knot after the wood bead to keep it in place
    7:03 measure 5 inches down again for plain strands of yarn and then add another 5 inch row of square knots
    8:05 you can use clips to evenly space out strands on the hoop and keep them in place
    8:22 you can hide the end yarn strand from the hoop under one of the square knots
    11:31 trim the tassel at the bottom to the desired length

    Wow I’ve made it!!🎉🎉🎉
    It’s so lovely thank you for the tutorial!!🥰 a few tips for anyone making this you will need 200 Meters of cord I made mine 54inches long (I had planned for it to be 4ft but it turned out longer) I did 7 times the finished length I could have got away with 6 times and the 24 added pieces were only 110inches in length but that will depend on how long you want the tassels!! Hope this helps!!🥰

    An awesome SAFE macrame hanging cat bed option! I recently started looking online for these diy cat stuff projects after getting into micro macrame jewelry and I can’t tell you how horrified I was by 75% of the free hanging cat bed tutorials I found on RUclips. People, cats can get stuck between cords and if no one is home…I just can’t go there.
    So, thank you so much for posting a safe hanging cat bed video on your channel. I’m sure all the cats that have ignorant and/or thoughtless pet parents who love diy crafting thank you too. ❤🫰

    I just finished making this for my cat and it’s beautiful!
    A few tips: if you’re using 3mm cord, you definitely don’t need to measure it ten times the length you want it to be. I could have got away with 8 times the length. Also, for the extra 24 cords at the end, I probably only needed them to be 120 inches, not 180. Luckily I had lots of cord so it’s no big deal and I can donate all my loose ends so it’s all good!
    Thank you for this beautiful tutorial!

    • @juliakonya7266
      @juliakonya7266  2 года назад +1

    • @Dozzzzy
      @Dozzzzy 2 года назад +3

      @@athinacortez514 hi, no worries! Julia recommends making the 8 cords ten times the length of the final product you want. So if you want it to be 100 cm in length, you will need 8 1000 cm long cords. I used 3mm cord (smaller than what is used in the video) so I only needed 8 times the length. But as Julia said, it’s better to have cord left over than to not have enough cord in the end! Good luck!!

    I made this cat bed for my cat worried she wasn’t going to want to use it but she absolutely loves it! It was really easy to follow your instructions and it came out even better than I expected. Thank you for taking the time to make this video🥰
    One thing I will say with the cord instructions, I definitely didn’t need as much yarn as was recommended. I had to cut out loads of in the end which was a shame. I’d say half of the recommended cord size would be enough.

    Cannot wait to get supplies for our rehab foster home!💞
    Im in the process of caring for and taming, if you will, feral kittens and cats in our mobile park to find them furever homes or return to their owners altered. There are lonely senior tenants and cannot afford altering their cats on SS. This leads to inbreeding and endless unwanted cats. In the past week we've neutered 4 males!
    Cumbersome at times. A little patience goes a long way. But, the end result is so wonderful for both cats and their people 🤗
    I have a 3mo black male inside with me. Born under a mobile, living in the dirt under mobiles. Eating wherever and whatever they can. They deserve so much more than a dirt cold place to sleep.
    The little guy has siblings and a tabby no more than 4-5 mo. I call her Salem. And she knows her name.
    They followed a large 3yo Male who, has not just a loving home, but is now neutered.
    Midnight was neutered 2 days ago, so patience is the greatest part to establish a bond and desensitize surrounding life. We have 2 13mo female cats and my chaweeenie. Our big cats are more afraid of him than he is of them. Its too funny. Socializing is crucial in preparing them for a furever home.
    That which I began outside befriending, feeding and earning trust over 2 mo ago with 7 cats. Three of which are under 4-5mo
    Keeping Midnight in an enclosure in a mobile is challenging enough but,so worth it! And Salem loves her porch enclosure.
    ANYWAY.
    My sincerest apologies for writing a book 🤦‍♀️🙄 lol
    I love the macrame hammock Can't wait to start for my roster and our own babies. 😎✌☮
    PAY IT FORWARD!

    I love this project so much! Am going to give it a try for sure! I'm only considering to crochet around the hoops instead of knotting, so you don't have to guess how long you need to cut the yarn and have a very long ending which you need to pull through every time. I don't think it will look very different, maybe a little. Depending on the size of the cat and how large you want this to be, maybe hula hoops (do I write it like that) will also be a great base instead of the metal rings (think the metal will be more expensive). I do love this idea and can't wait to try it!

    • @juliakonya7266

      Crocheting around the hoops sounds like a great idea. I do think though that hula hoops are too big and not sturdy enough.

      @@juliakonya7266 I don't know about the country you're in, but I thought that, where I live, you can get these hula hoops in different sizes, also in 45 and 50 cm. And with sturdy, do you mean like if it can hold the weight? Sorry my Google translate does not quite make a good word out of it... Because the hula hoops here, you can get them from different materials, even wood. And if it doesn't work, my cat finds out soon enough 😂

      I actually ended up tying two strings to it where the window is and then shut the window onto those two strings on each side. It's like docking a boat ;) and now it doesn't swing much anymore. if it's hanging on a wall you could tie it to a nail.

    When making the loop, you cut 8ft of rope. Did you fold that in half before you started the first lark knot? Roughly how much rope should I leave free for that side of the loop?

    Hi Julia, I just found your channel and I'm an instant fan 😂 we're waiting to adopt a cat and tought I could use the time waiting by getting all the cat stuff in order - just like when expecting a baby ❤
    Your cat bed looks so cute and fits my aesthetics. The bed will be 1,4 meters from the top to the bottom of the bed + the extra tassels.
    I 'm not used to inches, so I'm converting your measurement to meters. I'm trying to figure out if I ordered enough yarn (200 meters). I got the hoops and they're 45 cm (18"), but I'm very confused about the last part, where you write "cut 24 pieces of macrame yarn at 180 inches". Do I cut 24 pieces at 180 inches each or a piece of 180 inches and divide it into 24 pieces? 180 inches for the connection between the hoops and the bottom + tassels sounds like a lot.. I also saw your blogpost about the cat bed to see if I got closer to the answer, but I'm still confused about the length and numbers.Can you please help me out? 😊 Thanks!

      @juliakonya7266  2 года назад +2

      I'm sorry it's confusing. It's hard for me sometimes when I makes something and try to figure out at the beginning how much I need. I definitely had it too long at the end but I don't mind because the scraps get used for something else eventually.
      Someone else in the comments below mentioned that she only cut "the 24 added pieces at 110inches in length". So yes it is 24 pieces. It also always depends on what people prefer, long tassels or short ones or more knots which require more yarn.
      Good luck with your furry baby. I love cats!

      Oops, yes you are right, I didn't mention that 🤔. An 8-foot piece is usually what I use, or like I mentioned you can just use a metal ring as I did in my lantern tutorial which saves time.

    Hello thank you for this tutorial. What is the total length of the cord used? What changes can I do if I want this to hold a toddler? Thank you

    • @juliakonya7266
      @juliakonya7266  3 года назад +1

      Hi there, the length depends on where you hang it and how low it will hang, and what knots you use. I have no idea about it holding a toddler and wouldn't feel comfortable giving advice about it.

      Hello, I additionally have found the following video:
      ruclips.net/video/TrehmieOKxI/видео.html
      For toddlers you would have to add a net/grid above the tire to make it safer.
      Or you could use a old bike rim from a kid’s bike, I think this will be safe enough.
