    Great information about not having vertical stretch and fitting. I'll watch the pattern recommendations more carefully.

    I have learned so much about knit fabrics from your channel. Thank you for the tips and suggestions. I do have some knits that I bought and just didn't know what to do with them. I'm going to go look at them and see what I can come up with. Your suggestions on patterns to use are also very helpful.

    The second velvet you showed that looked wet is known in Australia as crushed velvet. Absolutely love the deep teal colour.

    I would love to see a sew along for the Sofia.. I love the shape , bought it right away and am now not confident in sewing it :) Beautiful knits fabrics... I hope it gets cool enough to enjoy them more than once! Looking forward to the Arington, it has everything one needs :)

      I don’t do full sew alongs but for the Sofia I’d film the neckline construction for sure :)

    Stretchy hems - I use double sided tape (Steam-a-seam or Prym washaway) to turn up the hem and then twin needle to stitch. Nothing moves and no wobbles/waviness.

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  3 года назад

      I never mention those notions because I don’t have access to them nor have I ever been able to even try them. I generally only struggle with rib knits, all the others are ok just with the twin needle.

    Learning a lot from your sewing segments, knits especially. Having more success and confidence. Appreciate you introducing Love Notions Patterns to us. More options available and you help add the creative vision ❤️ Hope LN will consider offering sales on the patterns I missed. Catching the sewing virus. Staying at home and enjoying my fabrics - so ok in lock down this time. 👌👍🇨🇦

    This is ideal, by getting a certain type of fabric and letting us know some patterns that can be made out of it, I could do with some ideas for double gauze and some linen look fabrics I’ve recently purchased xx

    Good info. Important to really think through fabrics with a nap. Found out the hard way not to sew a top with a cut-on sleeve design using velvety/nap fabric. 😬

    This video really helped me! I have some French terry that has been in my stash for over a decade. It's the cotton kind, which, as you pointed out, has very little stretch. Now that you explained that to me, I will use it for some loungewear with a pattern that I have already made with a woven: the Tula Pant from Papercut. I will also make a jacket out of this fabric: Blank Slate's Sora Sweater, which I have also made before. Thank you Karina!

    Thank you, I have several of these different fabrics and have been wondering how to choose appropriate patterns. In the UK we refer to the 'wetlook' stretch velvet as crushed velvet

  • @kckazcoll1
    @kckazcoll1 3 года назад +2

    is that wet-look velvet the same as panne velvet, Karina? I've used it a lot and it is very difficult to sew unless I use a washable tape between the seams :) I've also found that ponte comes in varying weights and levels of stretch. I get confused about what is jersey knit. So much to learn about fabrics!

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  3 года назад +1

      The wet look is also known as crushed velvet and I’ve sewn it normally without issues before. The term jersey knit is very generic and only refers to how the fabric is weaved and not it’s composition, it can be cotton, polyester, wool, rayon and blends of them. It’s not a good descriptive term for a specific type of knit fabric.

    • @kckazcoll1
      @kckazcoll1 3 года назад

      @@LiftingPinsandNeedles OK thanks :) yes panne velvet is very different to crushed, as it is super stretchy crosswise and tends to curl and slip around when sewing. Agree, jersey is not a good descriptor

    Looks like the stretch suede has a nap. Just like corduroy, velvets, fake fur, etc.

    Thanks for this helpful video! I wonder if the yoke on the Sloan top could be made with woven fabric 🤔 What do you think?

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  3 года назад +1

      I personally would not mix woven fabric in there. It would feel tight in the upper back and the sleeve. There is positive ease, but not that much to allow a woven there.

    • @donnac5201
      @donnac5201 3 года назад

      Maybe a stretch woven!
