I live round the corner (literally) from the distillery. We're very proud of our whisky. The 10 yr old is my go to to finish the night off. Its very much a whisky as they used to be- simple, about the malt. With all Glencadams it benefits from sitting jn the glass- 10 yr old leave it in the glass 10 minutes then drink makes a big difference.

Excellent Phil! An easy 12 minute watch. I think there’s validity in just scoring based on spirit, but weaving in price, availability and natural presentation is far more realistic today. Love it.

Thanks Roy! Yeah it plays a big part, especially as most people are not going to be buying £500+ whiskies. And I do feel like if I do overpay for a whisky, it does affect how much I enjoy it and why I want that reflected in the score.

I remember loving the 18 and the 21 yr old Glencadams and telling the representative about it at a whiskey fest over six years ago and he proceeded to pull out a limited edition 25 yr old and pour me some. Glad to hear that they're still doing great things.

Absolutely love this whisky, blows any other highland I own out of the water. I was lucky enough to get a 2012 bottling when ordering it online, fingers crossed the new bottling will be as good!
Actually found this whisky through you Phil so cheers for the suggestion!

Really enjoy the Glencadam - bought a bottle when Roy did his (one and only?) hero whisky 🥃 review and have replaced it. This and the Arran 10, Ledaig 10 and Bunna 12 have that high “reachability” factor you describe and would always be on the wall - even with my now fascination with Cask Strength whiskies. Lovely dram and enjoyable video (as always). Cheers 🍻

I heard about it here. I bought a bottle online, because it is not available in state stores. Boy howdy, was that a pleasant surprise. I found it to be the best representative of what I call the basic 'classic Highland expression', a bourbon-cask only maturation. That spirit is really top rate. Purists should be really happy with this expression. It is high integrity and exceeding tasteful. Again, another new expression which advanced to the High Council of my Pantheon in two settings of tastings. It displaced Dalwhinnie 15.

I wached a plenty of videos with top whisky but your is the best and the whisky you showed are amazing.

Fantastic work! Something thing that I got "hung up on" is the rating though. Now, I haven't had any Glencadam, but comparing with other reviews online 90/100 is remarkable. Of course, it's all a matter of opinion. Maybe it's just THAT good, eh? Definitely looking forward to more reviews!

    • @FirstPhilWhisky
      @FirstPhilWhisky  2 года назад +1

Thanks so much! Yeah part of my rating combines value and accessibility in the final score. If I was to compare it regardless of price to all whiskies ever, yeah it would score much lower. But value is a big part of buying decisions and has pushed the score up by a lot for me. Especially when you compare it to other 10 year olds bottled at 40%.
Great to hear! More reviews on the way. Grateful to have you watching!

    It is definitely very interesting.
I note a burn, is it the age or the ABV? I haven’t decided yet. - So I’m still chasing the right water mix.
I also find the bitter sour notes somewhat dominate, but a lingering almost honey finish.
Reminds me of the Craigellachie 13, which i enjoy very much but took a bit of time to adjust to.

It would be good to see this sort of whisky being available in non-specialist shops. The sad thing is, supermarkets often do have a big shelf of whisky, but do we really need 7 different kinds of Jura? Surely one of those could be replaced by a Glencadam or Deanston

  • @zoltanmpapp

This one is simply gorgeous. 0 harshness, juicy fruitiness. I'm a beginner, so I'm very happy to find this one, because it's not challenging, but it still packs a few quality flavours one can pull apart. What could be a step up from this in a similar style?

Where I live, it's about $40 USD, and that's the least expensive (by about $10) "integrity bottling". I know of AND it delivers on the nose & palate.
It's a really good whisky, but for a few bucks more, about $50, bottles like Deanston 12, Bunnahabhain 12, and Craigellachie 13 are ultimately more rewarding.
