Hi, Dr. Emily Thank you for your videos! Your content is really helpful. Could you please make a video (or maybe just answer in the comments) - how can prospective students determine if a program is focused on qualitative or quantitative methods?
I completed my master's in comparative religion, and I aspire very much to get my PhD in political science. Is it something I could pursue? I've always been quite interested in politics and have followed them extensively in my home country.
They are completely different disciplines with a different set of theories and metholodgies, different ways of asking questions, different lens used to examine the functioning of government. I think if you google it or check out the course programs for a political science compared to a public administration or public policy program, you'll see how wildly different the coursework is too.
Hey Dr. Emily! I am wrapping up a MA in Community Psychology and I have 2.5 yrs worth of nonprofit work mainly working with BIPOC LGBTQ populations and Sexual Assault/ Reproductive Justice. I am mainly interested in a joint PhD in Political Science and Public Policy because I've observed how systemic barriers have impacted the lives and health of survivors. I'm interested in comparative politics at the moment but I'm qualitative leaning and don't know whether another subset would be a better fit for me. Any tips or am I just a lost cause here? Actually I should be more concise: is comparative a good subset for my interests in reproductive justice/sexual harassment or is there something out there that may be better suited to make the case?
Your videos are excellent and extremely helpful. I could really use your guidance and some phd polisci programs I'm thinking about
