This bike is so popular here in Belgium. Very handy for commuting doesn't cost extra to take on the train or metro. Yet pricing is... but good things cost.
Wow this was posted back in 2014 and they still haven’t brought the price down yet? 4 grand is absolutely outrageous. I will probably end up just getting a motorcycle instead
I own one of these and it works great! Everyone asks about it. The motor is plenty powerful enough to zoom past traditional cyclists uphill on the Manhattan Bridge. I purchased it second hand and replaced the battery since the LiPo one it came with only did about 15 miles.
This is so much quieter than the current Brompton electric and it has a throttle as well! Is this kit available to retrofit now? I'm not finding this specific kit anywhere. They're much smaller hubs so maybe they're lighter weight but they're all so noisy

Another great video, thank you! I heard mention of the Brompton warranty. Over here (UK) if you add an emotor to a Brompton, it immediately voids their warranty, is that not the case over there?
taiwarrior1 Interesting... Maybe NYCeWheels covers the warranty or offers something of their own? I did see Brompton at Interbike in 2014 and it sounded like they might do an ebike of their own someday. Have you heard anything about this?
+ElectricBikeReview.com I've not heard anything about a Brompton produced ebike. It wouldn't be a bad idea though. At my local electric bike shop, where I got the Brompton warranty void information from, they've actually sold out of the emotor they use to convert the Brompton, as so many people have had their bikes converted. If Brompton don't start producing an e-version of their own, they'll be missing out!
I agree Taun... there are a couple of folding ebikes that do this, one of my favorites is the e-Joe Epik Lite electricbikereview.com/e-joe/epik-lite/ or the SE electricbikereview.com/e-joe/epik-se/
I find front hub motors suspicious because I always imagine that when you ride uphill with such a bike, almost your entire weight lies on the rearwheel and the front wheel looses its grip and starts spinning. Has anybody experience with that?
Daniel Wolf Yeah, I've experienced this... for me it didn't slip a whole lot but there were times when turning sharp where the wheel skidded a bit or other times when the ground was slippery or dusty that it happened. Once you're up to speed it's not a huge deal but it can happen.
$500-$600 every 2-3 years, on a battery alone!!! Not forgetting every 3 years you'll want to replace a lot of bike components including spongy brake cables, and maybe even worn our rims… Warranty on the motor is 1 year… You can get washing machines with a free 5 year warranty.
Alex Stedall It's a relatively new space in the US and many owners are seeing 2,000+ miles per battery (when cared for). If you ammortize even 1,000 cycles and include the price of electricity at ~$0.15 kwh then you're paying ~$0.60 per charge to go ~25 miles. It's one of the most efficient and affordable ways to get around, even compared with traditional bikes when you factor in the price of food, efficiency to digest and burn it and lost time.

Hello Yari, this electric bike is available with several different battery sizes which range from 201.6 to 540 watt hours. The price for the standard model is $2,795.00 USD and you can see more details at electricbikereview.com/brompton/nycewheels-electric/ hope that helps :)
+Make money with your Longboard To be honest, I have not dealt with tube changes or flat tires on the Brompton bicycles but if it is anything like a traditional bike you might need some tools to loosen the nuts on the axle then tire wrenches to get the tube out and back in as well as a pump of some kind. Changing any tube can be somewhat difficult, many people flip the bicycle upside down to do it if they don't have a bike stand. Hope this helps :)
I like folding bikes, but I fund not really suitable it with electrical motor. The main things about folding bicycles is that they are light, and usually owners of folding bikes don't pedal too far, so no sense in electrical power..
It's a trade off... given this bike only goes 18mph vs. 20mph and some other folding bikes only reach 15mph I can see how some people wonder why you'd even want a motor. It's also nice to keep these light so you can carry them up stairs onto trains etc. The biggest benefit I see for folding electrics is that they aren't always as easy or enjoyable to pedal due to the smaller frame. Sometimes if you're just trying to get from A to B having a little motor is nice. NYCeWheels did a great job on this conversion but this is really a tough segment given the points you've made.
Electric Bike Review totally agree) I am fan of big frames with built-in battery for a longer than 1 or 2 miles rides :) something like stromer or greyp or stelth bomber, the only issue is that they cost like kidney))) that's why we are doing our Vector bike) will you make a review of it for your subscriber Court? ;)
