Yes! I love to see modern doom bands playing this style of old school epic doom.
As much as I love stoner and sludge stuff, that market is oversaturated, so we need bands playing different styles of doom.
I love this record. All three of their releases stand pretty close in quality honesty, but this one just seems darker. Crypt Sermon at this point deserves to be mentioned with Pallbearer and Khemmis as modern doom icons.
Nice review! Been looking forward to this album for a while. I have only heard the 3 singles so far, but an album I am excited to finally listen to in full very soon. Cheers!
Amazing record! Thanks for doing it justice! A top 3 doom record for me this year with the other two being Ponte del Diavolo and Haunted
Loved their last one. I’m really excited for this one.
I guess 'Stygian' is a word associated with superb epic doom metal in 2024; 'The Stygian Rose' is a definite highlight in the genre this year, but so is the mighty 'Funeral for a King' release by Stygian Crown. I'm stiil not sure which I prefer; both excellent albums... 👌
Loved their first two, first single sounds awesome. Really looking forward to this one. Didn't plan it but the year is halfways over and Doom, be it trad, epic, death or funeral has been easily the genre so far I listened to the most.
This is the year of the Stygian! I don’t know what it means but it sounds awesome!
I listened to their prior album just yesterday after watching your old review! And man, when you said something like "if you are one of those who don't like doom this could be the album that changes everything" you got me 100%
Ok 90% 'cause i still don't get doom as a standalone genre lol but this band's well beyond that!
Love the music, but the vocals just hit different for me. They carry the story with great emotion and intensity
I got my copy of this super early. Got delivered to me on the 4th. Its freaking brilliant!
Damn that is early. Can't imagine you were super upset about that though lmao
Hearing some Savatage/Jon Oliva in the samples I've heard so far...
New Crypt Sermon. That sounds awesome to me. They are easily one of my favorite modern Doom metal bands. They have made nothing but great albums. Love their Candlemass, Solitude Aeturnus, Trouble influences. From what I’ve heard with Thunder (Perfect mind) it will be a bit different but I loved it. So I’m excited after for this one.
This review sounds like a banger.
I need a banger.
Thanks.
Couldnt agree more. Also digging the new HUNTSMEN and INSECT ARK records. Retro doom with female vox.
Are you doing a review on King by Immortal Disfigurement
No
A great reminder for me of how creativelly drained and out of ideas Candlemass have been over their past two albums. These guys, Avatarium, Ecclesia and so many others have taken charge in the Epic Doom department.
Also, Brooks Wilson channels Chester Bennington every time he screams.
I... guess? I'm not sure I really see or hear the comparison there.
@@themetalmeltdownofficial I think it was more prominent in Ruins Of Fading Light than in this record.
