    So as far as adding some suggestions for other gear, a white balance card or Color Checker Passport is very handy. They're not super expensive, but definitely aren't cheap. It's worth saving up for one. But if you're wanting a more inexpensive solution for just white balance, then a collapsible grey or white card is great too. Nothing is worse than needing to get your white balance checked/adjusted and you don't have something reliable to do that with. And another item that, I'm not sure this is absolutely essential, but I've found very useful when I caught out in the elements and can't just escape, a rain cover. I can say that in my 25+ years of being a photography, I've only needed the rain cover like maybe 3 or 4 times, but the times I had it, I was so glad it was there for me. They don't take up a lot of room, and if you shoot outdoors a lot, sometimes the weather can sneak up on you. So I would have at least one or two stashed in your camera bag, or whatever cases you may use to bring gear.

      I have a gray card on my forthcoming "Best item's under $100" video. A rain cover came in clutch when I was a photojournalist.

    Hi great video and love your new background. What size are your gravity backgrounds and I looked on their site but I don’t see the double-sided anymore. Is that like a special order or something?
    Also, I finally ordered my first C stand for my boom, because you are right, I had my boom on my aluminum stand even with two sandbags, it was tilting, and it was a disaster waiting to happen. I think I have most of the other things that you talked about except for the camera stand. I have a tripod, but not a camera stand. I have a flat computer table that I connect to my old Mole light stand.

      Thanks Lorinda! Mine are all size M or L. I am sure with your setup the tripod and laptop try are great. I was thinking about it from my perspective because I feel like I move around the room a lot.

  • @quentinwhitfield4762
    @quentinwhitfield4762 10 месяцев назад +2

    Can I add a number 11? Having watched you with your tripod then an L Bracket is an must. Coming from a landscape enthusiast into the studio an L Bracket allows you to rotate the camera quickly without losing the perspective (if you have set it up correctly). It is also something chunky to hold so you don't drop the camera if you decide to go free style off the tripod.

    • @JohnGress
      @JohnGress  10 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks Quentin. That is something I haven't considered. But now that you mention it I think that might be the solution for a problem I am having. When I am in the vertical position, my camera keeps drooping because the lenses are so heavy. But having the weight under the camera and not to the side would fix my problem. Is there something I should be looking for when considering an L Bracket?

    • @quentinwhitfield4762
      @quentinwhitfield4762 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@JohnGress I found that heavy lenses moved when turned to the side, but the weight is on top with an L Bracket so its super sturdy. But the main advantage is that if you set it up correctly the centre of the image does not move when you change between vertical and horizontal. Obviously getting the L Bracket with the right mount for your tripod is the first thing. As I have both a Manfrotto Be Free and larger ball head tripod it does mean having two L Brackets. I went with Manfrotto branded brackets, but you can get less expensive ones, especially if your mount is Arca-swiss.

    • @lkfs55
      @lkfs55 10 месяцев назад +2

      Yay, I have an old L bracket and I didn’t even think about using it in my set up but when I go vertical I do get the drooping lens issue. I did find if I mount my 70 to 200 mm Canon lens on my tripod using the lens bracket and not mount it to the camera that it doesn’t droop. That doesn’t help me when I’m using my 24 to 70 lens so I will try my L bracket! Thanks for the suggestion!

    • @YogueDaddy
      @YogueDaddy 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@JohnGress Check for Kirk L-brackets. They are custom designed for each camera and my favorite ones. You need an Arca-Swiss compatible tripod head, though.

    • @MarcusSortijas
      @MarcusSortijas 10 месяцев назад

      @@JohnGressAnother option to get vertical shots is to use a rotating lens collar like a Silence Corner Atoll.
      If you’ve used a 70-200mm lens with a tripod collar, then you already know how it works.
      Nice to be able to get instantly rotate the camera, without changing the camera position and having to take off and reattach an L-bracket.

    2:20 - No joke, I thought I was the only person who noticed that of the bat of the 6 sided stud on the Kupo Baby Boom. I bought it mainly to get a much sturdier, and movable, stand compared to my Hensel Boom Arm Kit 223 that I used. It's not bad, but I felt less "Final Destination" intrusive thoughts with the Kupo when I'd hang a 90 x 120 softbox overhead.

    Do you still own and use the 01-360-MK2 Commercial Studio Camera Stand from Studio Titan America.
