  • Welcome back everyone, this is the making of final filler objects for the urban scene i'm modeling. I will probably model some more objects and then put them all in some kind of a minipack which will be on my gumroad page here
    gumroad.com/da...
    As usual all comments and suggestions are very welcome, hope you like the video and stay tuned, my goal is to start uploading more like this one on a regular basis. Thank you all again for watching!!!

    Thank you for this tutorial. I'm a character modeller but thanks to this I gained insight into how enviromental props are made. I don't know if this feature is exclusive to Blender 2.8+, but it is possible to save a lot of time by simply merging the vertices of the pieces that need to be merged before applying the skin modifier. It will automatically create good topology around the union area. Cheers!

      Thank you very much! Honestly, i did this so long ago, aside from the merging one you just talked about, i might have done several other mistakes/imprecisions as well... and thank you for the suggestion :-)! i use skin very rarely to be honest, but it makes sense to do as you said

    I don't know why other people's bench tutorials on RUclips suck
    I'll be using this 5 year old bench tutorial for my Disney project, thanks. Less geometry though, but still the same workflow

    Hello, Davide. Great work! Is there any chance of you make a tutorial about light on blender?

    • @DavideTirindelli
      @DavideTirindelli  6 лет назад +1

      Hi Lucas, thank you very much, glad you like it!
      You are right, in this video i didn't show the light setup used. I have to say honestly my knowledge is not high enough to make a real tutorial but in the next video i'll sure show how i position and set the lights, it's going to be kind of a start :-)...
      Anyway we're quite lucky as just today Gleb Alexandrov uploaded a sculpting timelapse and in the final part he's showing the light setup he's using, which is sure more professional than anything i can do :-)
      This is the video, fresh upload, just 7 hours ago! ruclips.net/video/et5S5lkt2cg/видео.html
      I'm sure this one is going to be interesting, and with him you get voice explanations too!

    Really cool. Far better than I could do. Tho, I thought maybe the wood texture needed to be less shinny, and maybe more high frequency details in worn spots.

    Hello Davide, it was very interresting to watch.
    I have a few question about your modeling technique. Why not use modifier for the beveling ? or use spline and array for the plank ?
    However it is awesome and good choice of music, very pleasant :D
    Keep going :)

    • @DavideTirindelli
      @DavideTirindelli  6 лет назад

      Hi Julien, thank you very much, really glad you enjoyed the video!
      About the bevel i prefer to have more control over where it is used and over the thickness, different edges ofter need different bevel width... i still use it where i want the size to be even for the whole object...
      You're right, curve+array would have been the best solution, i thought about it too late when the video was up already :-)... i'll sure use it in one of the next videos for sure...
      Yes Scott Buckley is making some awesome tracks, they really create a different atmosphere, big credits to him!
      Sure, won't stop anytime soon :-), right now i'm trying to think of some really interesting and creative object to model next, maybe even fantasy, to change the genre completely

      @@DavideTirindelli OK :D maybe for the bevel modifier you can have the control with the height but it will take a lot of time... I dont know :D thanks for your answer and cant wait your next video

      it's possible, i wouldn't be surprised if the devs have put a way to control that too...

    I’m curious: for placing the wood planks, why didn’t you take an edge from the arms, convert it into a curve, and have an array of the planks follow the curve?

    • @DavideTirindelli
      @DavideTirindelli  6 лет назад +1

      You're 100% right, actually right after uploading the video i realized that way would have been far better... guess i just thought about it too late

      Hi, to get them i enabled an addon that is included by default in blender, you can find it under preferences - addons and it's called Add Curve: Extra Objects
      Unless i am confusing, but it should be that one

    ciao davide, sto iniziando ad usare blender per un progetto per l'università ed ho trovato molto utile il tuo video per alcuni aspetti. vorrei chiederti un paio di cose:
    1) quando applico la skin, il risultato è abbastanza brutto e ci sono degli spigoli in più che da te non compaiono... inoltre al termine del processo la texture è tutta nera anzichè grigia come la tua e non so il perchè... qualche idea?
    2) una volta creata la skin, perchè quando provo ad entrare in edit mode blender freezza e non fa più niente?
    grazie

      @@DavideTirindelli e niente sono di nuovo qua a romperti le scatole ahaha quando hai messo in pausa il video e hai fatto l'unwrap, potresti spiegarmi cosa hai fatto esattamente? grazie :)

    • @DavideTirindelli
      @DavideTirindelli  5 лет назад

      hahahaha tranquillo :-)... hai già fatto uvunwrapping con altri software 3d o è una cosa nuova per te?
      se è una cosa nuova, l'unvwrap serve per applicare correttamente le texture... hai presente quando in alcuni giochi tipo nelle riviste ti danno anche un cubo di cartoncino da costruire? ti trovi le sei facce del cubo appiattite, tagli il modello, lo pieghi e una volta incollato hai una cosa solida in mano... nell'unwrapping vuoi ottenere la stessa cosa, il tuo modello in versione schiacciabile, a quel punto le texture vengono applicate in maniera uniforme come scala, e se serve puoi avere un certo grado di controllo su dove vuoi che le texture vadano a finire nel modello...
      nella parte che non ho mostrato ho marcato a blender una serie di edges da diciamo tagliare, così che il modello possa essere sviluppato su un piano e venga schiacciato bene, con le proporzioni il più giuste possibile... nei video non mostro l'unwrapping perché 1) è lungo e noioso e 2) sto ancora imparando a fare le cose come si deve, in questa fase preferisco non mostrare qualcosa che potrebbe non essere corretto al 100%... comunque ci sono un sacco di video dove viene mostrato bene come fare un uvnwrapping decente, mi saltano in mente l'incudine di Andrew Price ruclips.net/video/scPSP_U858k/видео.html e il coltello di CG Masters ruclips.net/video/mJooKRnXiLk/видео.html
      non sono modelli complicati però vanno bene per capire il principio, poi applichi la stessa cosa anche a modelli complessi...

      Hi, well this video is a making of, mostly to show the steps in modeling an object from start to finish... i made the decision to speed up my videos as these objects normally take a few hours to make, which would probably be too long and boring for most audience to watch...
      Anyway, i understand your point of view, a real in-depth spoken tutorial would be better than this, but as english is not my native language i have not started recording my voice yet... As soon as i start with those i'll sure keep the speed to normal, except maybe for the repetitive parts where the same task has to be done a number of times...

    • @ChristinaMcKay
      @ChristinaMcKay 5 лет назад

      A very rude comment and not true at all. Why don't you watch it in slower speed? There are no spoken comments, so you can mute the music (it is odd in slower speed) and turn on your own music while watching it in 0,25, for example. I am really grateful for Davides video, I have learned a lot from him.
