“I would very much like to have met you at a different time in my life.” -broke my heart
I know, that part of he film was so moving.
Me too..😫
@Matías Zitterkopf oh noo...
I've felt that 💔
I could spend all day in a bookshop.
Can quite happily spend 2 hours in this one.
I think the same Mike!
i adore emily mortimer. such an underrated actress and beauty
Ditto Patricia Clarkson
Did they have to pair her up with grandad bones there though? It seems like whenever an actress is over 35, suddenly romances with decrepit ambulatory skeletons are acceptable.
@@fergus1948 Patricia Clarkson isn't underrated.
Me too.
I visited numerous bookshops during my two visits to London, England and was utterly besotted with all of them. I cannot wait to see this film.
I was like I've definitely heard her voice before. It's so soothing and familiar, I would never forget such a unique sound! She voices Sophie in Howl's moving castle! Really brings back childhood memories
!!!! You gave me chills. I love Sophie from Howl's so much. Go Emily!
I truly enjoyed this film. Emily Mortimer was enchanting and Patricia Clarkson was a marvel, as usual.
I love Bill Nighy as actor. Truly, he is so good in showing characters :)
Sit on my face. I love older women
"You have to succeed if you give it everything you have" Cheers to the underdogs 🍷
Forget mainstream, cliche comedies or action films. This is more my speed.
And mainstream, cliche comedies or action. Films are more MY speed
Completely agree. Check out "Puzzle".
Speed is amphetamine you know? Most likely where that saying comes from. Do you guys see strange things in the credits, like stunt actors when you don't recall there being any stunts? This one I saw some film crew Barcelona. Since when was any of this filmed in Spain??? Music choice in the credits was really good, they didn't just go into some up beat thing and just kill the vibe of everything. You know I saw on the news 700 something people died in 24 hours in NYC from corona virus. I hope the lead actress in this doesn't get affected cos I like her.
I like comedies and actions movies but i also enjoyed this
@@jhowardsupporter the director herself is Spanish and maybe part of the crew that goes with her. Thats why
LOVE Bill Nighy!!
"You have to succeed if you give everything you have."
A nice thought, because giving up everything but still failing would be devastating. But it happens, and it destroys people, and people often don't quit while they're ahead because people trot out these trite bromides about never giving up and giving up everything until you succeed.
Ander Louis Bravo! Especially when we are young and live in make believe, with any real life experience, give up on time is good advice.
Ander Louis 8
Quite right, thank you. "Trite Bromides" is a great way to phrase it!
I thought the exact same thing when I heard that line
I gave everything I had into multiple endeavors in my life and failed miserably multiple times. My response was to get up and keep at it even harder to achieve the dream I wanted. You don’t give up in the face of failure, you get bullheaded.
Did I succeed? After 5 years, yes I did.
That is the most English thing I've ever seen.
@@ydoomenaud Ah, but a freedom to be a full-blown cynic still holds water...
which is quite funny considering it's a Spanish production.
@@ydoomenaud Don't forget, stodginess. Level 11 stodginess.
You should try watching the Crown series, them British talk like they were reading from a classic book, man I just like listening to them.
@@ydoomenaud The hero does not prevail in this movie, sadly. IMO.
What an awesome ensemble. Looking forward to this.
The movie seems to take place in the 1950s or 60s, but the books on the shelves are editions which were published in the 2000s (specifically the Penguin Clothbounds)
well it cost a lots of money to get old books.
But they don't need to be originals just props, print out a copy of the original cover ( find online ) and paste it to the front of a similar looking book or book shaped box for books that are far off from the cameras view.
Also, libraries lend out books for extended periods and I'm sure for a period drama like this, that would not be a problem especially if the so called library or libraries got a mention in the credits.
But you are right about some old books being expensive never mind how hard they could be to find.
I saw that too!!!
The quiet power of a great cast ands story is impressive in this one. the female actresses in this are excellent, even the girl as well. The Story sad and bitter but still powerful, funny the first book she gives him is Fahrenheit 451, so irony is not lost at the end of the film.
Looks just like Chocolat
blood honey exactly what I had in my mind😊
Exactly!
but more boring....
I was thinking that , just like chocolate!
My thought too!
This looks good, and there is something romantic and magical about love and literature.
"Celebrates love and literature"...what more does anyone need! Wonderful: have to go watch now - see what you've done :)
Just finished watching this. Loved it.
"She's a loose cannon she must be stopped."
What do I value the most.
Courage
I'd live to see this in an afternoon with a cup of good green tea....hummmm
What a cast! I never heard of this
ah! the little girl from 'A Christmas Prince'' movie (and what a great little actress she is!)
once upon a time in a land far away people used to read books and have in person conversations and write letters by hand but that was a long time ago
no one’s stopping you to do it now. only the fear of what people might think of you.
Love Patricia Clarkson! Must see this.
Looks good
I loved this so much...
Is this opening anywhere in Canada?
A movie I actually want to see, and its playing in the next town over :)
Beautiful movie. I loved it. 💜
Looks adorable, I hope they renew her show Doll and Em.. it was so refreshing but lasted only 12 episodes... please Netflix pick it up. 😍😭
Sophie Hatter left her hat shop to open a book shop.
Beautiful movie
J.P. Chiarelli
if this is your cup of tea might i recommend the trailer for ''this beautiful fantastic.'' im getting the same vibes
I had such a high hopes about that movie, however it was a bit too heavy for Sunday morning. Not to be watched in the beginning of beautiful day.
I found it depressing.
Oh, what a satisfyingly beautiful film.
what's the name of the music at 1.30 please?
Love book shops.
Was really hoping to like this. Then I saw it. Had hoped for so much more....
Agree 💯. I found it depressing.
Who wants to own a book shop?
Cos I do.
I so want to see this!
Very fine movie. And the end...
😢
I like this
Is that the little girl from Sherlock right?
THE SHOP. IS NOT FOR SALE. 💯💯
So so good !! :)
That small girl is the one from Crooked House
Oh my gosh!!!! Can't wait!
My happy place! 📚
Ava Peage
Interesting
I enjoyed this movie very much.
Me too!
I have mixed feelings, mostly negative. The casting and acting are top-notch, but the story itself was depressing and also angering to me.
Why does the set remind me of the Book Thief?
Because...surprise!...both contain lots of books. 🙄🤦
So beautifull. Got me in tears!
what do bookshops sell...?
I would love to watch it but it feels like I have already seen the movie in this trailer...
@Lavanya Dhyani It's not as obvious as the trailer.
shoulda called it the brittle bone shop amirite
Patricia Clarkson's accent is not convincing at all, she is very American rather, on the contrary from that old man who played Churchill in the Crown, he was quite amazing.
Not necessarily a chick flick. If you're a guy who reads. Definitely, a compromise for something on movie night other than horror movies and action/superhero movies to appease her. It's NOT The Notebook.
"As easy as it is to spot Milo’s sleaziness, it’s harder to know exactly what to make of “The Bookshop.” It isn’t really a love story (except if you count the love of reading).
And it isn’t really a story about a place or time where books are truly in jeopardy, despite the prominent appearance of Ray Bradbury’s “Fahrenheit 451” (which augurs the film’s climax in an unexpected way)."
"Reminds us noone ever feels alone in a bookshop."
"Love isn't two people holding hands walking towards the twilight. Love is generosity, it's support, it's a purity of heart, it's a sacrifice, and of course, it's happiness but pain as well."
- Isabel Coixet
chocolat 2.0
No. There are similarities, though.
Ava Page before WICKED
The sound of the wind and waves during this movie made it very hard to watch. To hear the words the actors were speaking, ai had to turn the sound up so high. Other than this, it was a great movie.
🤣🤣🤣
I love books SO much and bookshops and libraries enormously but Jesus Christ people it's just a store.
It was something personal for her, just like it was for him as well to get out of the house. You see, idealistic people for better or worse really try their best the outcome be damn.
Sorry that sounds just as cheesy as the movie.
The movie could have been about a bakery or millinery for that matter. You are missing the point here. This story is about a woman who, somehow wishes to keep the memory of her husband alive. It's also the story of courage, deception and what happens when power and cowardice turn against one person. It is a beautiful movie.
Yay. Still looks like much ado about a bookstore based on this trailer. Your check from the studio should be on its way though. ;-)
Jesus has nothing to do with it.
The problem with this movie is that it seems a little too edgy.
I'm sure someone will get cut by pages.
Um.....did we watch the same clip?
Shimmed wtf do you mean
it's great😊
I honestly can’t tell if that was sarcastic or not.
YAWN
Sonia Ndukwe the trailer is very misleading, just sayin' 🤭
I've seen the movie. It's not boring, but for me, it was sad.

Agree 💯. I thought the movie was too sad.
acTORS acTING. punt. plus poor Ems has hit the wall running. ow.
I am sure you have been ugly and undesirable all your life.
"Ems"? Really?! 🙄
is it some kind of utopia? anybody...
honestly, i read lolita and I really dont understand how it got so famous or any of nabokovs books. It is absolutely disgusting and a excuse for pedophilia
It is??? I'd never heard of it before this trailer, what is it about?
monkiram about a guy that falls in love with a snall girl so he marries her mother. The mother dies because of an "accident". The small girl seduces the man. They go on a roadtrip with some 'sexy time' she grows up, leaves him he meets her again some time later where she is with some other older dude.
Its really weird and it makes you root for the pedophile and I HATED IT.
i dont understand why the writer of this novel never got investigated for pedophilia as apparently his other books are also about man- girl relationships
Wow that's actually really bad, the movie shouldn't promote that
@@monkiram It doesn't.
@@monkiram Google it.
The most pointless load of garbage you'll watch. Basically a rip of Chocolat, with the worst ending imaginable.
Yeah, the ending is terrible.
Looks very clichéd to me .
I don't like my figure. I'm here to breed. I'm a man. 7 bil aunt sara and she would make mor

Another boring English costume drama. I can't take it anymore!
I didn't like the movie myself, but it's neither boring nor a "costume drama."
I was interested until I saw Lolita. This just another subtle promotion of that disgusting agenda.
I've seen the movie. It's not.
These type of movies bore me.
It's not boring, but I didn't enjoy it.
Если чесно фуфло а не фильм.нудный.нестоит смотреть это мусор..🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮👎👎👎
