Any advice on thermal bridging of esb meter boxes? Also, what were the additional works carried out, that brought the project to passive standard?

Hi @sharron9838 its difficult to say without seeing an architectural detail before advising but generally try to keep your ESB meter box outside the insulation layer mostly. The passive standard was achieved simply by following the design principles of Passivhaus together with careful building modelling to stay on track using the appropriate planning software for Passive design.

Only seeing this now @sharon9838 our ESB box was extended in terms of depth within the External Wall Insulation Layer and the old cavity was pumped which helped mitigate the heat loss with thermal bridging. then on the passive house standard to it is as outlined with the other response from Ecological Building Systems. we found some uplift across the five principles with the most being with our window selection however not one regret with our Internorm windows. 1 year on our bills are within a margin of error of the PHPP prediction at just over €1000 for the entire year complete energy costs.

Looks like only “embodied carbon” kept to be environmentally good was the concrete floor. Why call it a retrofit, clearly here 3:30 it’s a demolished and rebuilt build. Not being nasty but the video keeps saying it’s a retrofit glad didn’t demolish to keep the original embodied carbon, yet looks like you completely took apart the house

Hi @kiohaha. Thank you for your comment and for engaging with the video! I appreciate your perspective and the opportunity to clarify. While it may appear like a significant transformation, this project adhered to the principles of a deep retrofit rather than a full demolition and rebuild.
The homeowner Barry McCarron retained 25% of the overall structure, including 66% of the external walls, which represents a considerable amount of the building's original embodied carbon. Barry also used our Gutex woodfibre, Daemstatt cellulose, Diasen cork lime thermal plaster, AURO natural paints and pro clima range of air and windtightness products all of which have an incredibly low embodied carbon. These decisions were made carefully to balance structural integrity, energy efficiency, and sustainability goals.
The aim was to upgrade the home to meet the EnerPHit standard while preserving as much of the existing building as possible. This approach allowed Barry to maximize the reuse of materials, minimize waste, and significantly reduce the embodied carbon associated with new construction.
I hope this sheds some light on Barry’s process, and we’re always happy to discuss further if you have any additional questions or thoughts😊

Please remove the music from your videos. It's very distracting, so I'm trying to fast forward to a section that may help me and then will likely have to mute it and see if I can figure out if the attic is vented and learn more about whether one should use the wood fibre insulation panels for the new roof surface or how that works.
I may just have to contact someone who sells Gutex to see if they can help me with these questions because too many videos are overproduced with the music. I can't focus or learn with that.

Thank you for the feedback, a version with no music has now been uploaded: ruclips.net/video/AOWLPxqlaa0/видео.html
