This is a video of my trail run from Animas Forks up to Cinnamon Pass then over to Engineer Pass and back to Animas Forks. I am riding a stock geared and jetted XR650L.
I learned that Chad Goff sadly passed away in a motorcycle/deer/auto accident on 13 April 2021. RIP brother. I've enjoyed watching your Colorado videos for countless hours.
Enjoyed your video. I had the opportunity to ride Engineer Pass and Cinnamon Pass in late August 2018 on my KLR 650. I had a blast. The scenery was breathtaking.
You have been on some amazing adventures I wish I found this channel sooner I just bought a 93 xr It was the first bike I ever rode at the motorcross track I hope to have some amazing adventures this summer on it
Chad did what he loved til the day of his tragic accident, coming home from work. He loved adventure and posting some of his rides. May his memory and videos continue to be watched. - Chad's mom.
I'm just discovering these 3 years later than they were posted, because I've recently been curious about the 650L for stuff like this (I currently ride an 04 V-Strom 1000). I'm bummed I found your vids; now I want an L!! Such a chill ride thru some amazing terrain, and I appreciate the fact that you just let the camera roll, and no music!!...quite soothing to have your vid on one monitor while I'm working from the other 3 monitors. Although, I do find it funny in most of your vids: "Why are there no signs??" - But won't stop for 1 minute to look at google maps. "I gotta check my tires!!" - But won't grab a tire pressure guage. :D :D
same here lol! I just bought a crf250l rally. and my brother wants a xr650l so we were researching, and found these videos. I wish I could be out there instead of looking at two monitors. Thinking about changing to a 650l
Another great video. I hope the ride was better for you than it sometimes looked... At times it appeared that you were on a bucking bronco! I only discovered these types of rider point-of-view videos in the past week. They will help hold me over until the new KLX300 or CRF300 is available in my area, some months from now. Want to get back into riding after a nearly 30-yr layoff. As a side note, I have to quit watching these videos. They only prove how boring my life is! lol
I bought 650 last year hoping I will do more of trail but all the good trails are so far from Centennial that I have to take road for a good chunk... anyways, seems like great trail. thanks for sharing
Not gunna lie the whole time I was wondering about the air fuel mixture and how cool it would be to have a fuel injected xr that way the mixture is always good
That has to be about the very best place to ride in. Chad youre so lucky to be there as an enduro rider. I think if I lived there with those rocks Id even invest in the Tubliss tire tube tech so I could run lower pressure and never care about flats. Because my ass would be living in those mountains on my Xr every weekend. LoL.. You do have a problem there tho ... You have to go slow to take in the views, if you haul ass you have to have tunnel vision and miss it all....what a predicament.
Nice videos, question though. I'm picking up the same bike soon & was wondering what gear you're riding in? Also, is the bike jetting, exhaust & intake stock? If so, how did it do?
That's awesome! Was there ever a point where you felt an "average" rider would have difficulty? I know that you were on jeep trails with utvs, just (overly) concerned about hitting a rock and launching over a cliff. haha
Five months is a long time to wait, but, if you're still interested... An average dual-sport rider should have no trouble with any pass that a Jeep can drive over. That said, I found the west side of Mosquito Pass a bit tricky because it is steep and rocky. I also ride an XR650L which is a top heavy underpowered beast that on dirt roads can be a bit spooky in corners or over about 45 mph on dirt roads. A lot of the riding over the passes will be around 25-35 mph, slower in the rocky sections. Much depends on your bike. I lowered the suspension on mine by an inch to improve cornering. Any bike with a carbureted engine will lose power at elevation, but not too bad. Must mention riding responsibly-in the summertime there is quite a bit of traffic and you don't want to cause an accident by riding like a crazy person. A lot of drivers are understandably annoyed when people on bikes and four wheelers ride like they own the place. There's still snow on the passes but they should be clear soon, can't wait to get out and do them again!
Done this trip 3 times on my XR 600 and loved it each time. Few hours of pavement here and there, but worth it to me for the off road capabilities of the 600. Great video, doesn't look like you had any issues. How is the 650 on the road? Any issues with jetting or power at elevation? I have none on my 600, thinking about getting a 650 for better road comfort.
@@chadgoff4878 cool. I went down three steps on my main jet, left the pilot and everything else with the carb alone. Ran great, even up high. Only been back a week, I wanna go do it again!!!
The highest peak I ran was 14k. I had a huge power loss but the bike ran. At some of the passes I didn't want to shut off the bike. I was glad the 650 still had power to tractor along. The lean stock jetting made it work.
@@chadgoff4878 Being a CV carb that we bitch about here in the flat lands also compensates for altitude a bit. My FCR carb would need a jet change for sure.
@@llshamelessll I think what helped me the most was my bike being stock. The stock jetting is very lean from the factory. I think I would have struggled more if I would have put a jet kit in at my Ohio elevation. Fuel injection would give ya more peace of mind.

So sad to hear he passed away. He put out some great videos crossing the passes in Colorado and other places.
Thanks for the ride!!! Incredible scenery

I have watched your bunch of mountain pass videos end-to-end a lot of times. I feel like I need to get out there and record my own.
Your xr650l rides are some of the best I have seen. I have the same bike and love it for being such an outdated bike.
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed them.
You never disappoint ! keep up the good work pal
Great video ride is just my speed older rider with a Xr650l not about speed just the journey. Time for a trip out west.
Love the video!!
Thanks 😊

Did you save big money at Menards?

A quality tubeless system would definitely be helpful. It was definitely a trip of a lifetime.
Stand up and Gripit-N-Ripit Brother!! Done all those passes on my KTM 1190r FI is the way to GO!!!

Where are all the off road trails in colorado?
Near silverton and Ouray off 550, or take rd 2 outta silverton. Engineer pass, Ophir, black bear, cinnamon, imogene, can be found there

The road isn't that bad. Not as comfortable as my Harley. The jetting I left stock. It bogged at the higher elevations but the bike was ridable.

Going down on jet sizes would definitely help to make the bike not sputter so much at high altitude.
Certainly not difficult. Looks like a Honda Civic could drive up there.
Justin Truedough you and your civic first.
What camera are you using?
Chad what tires are u running
what time of year was this ? mid august ?
Where is all your gear? 8:25
the speedometer beats the drz digital POS.
Great videos Chad which do you think was the easiest?
gno monty Ophir Pass was the easiest. I haven't uploaded that one yet.
will you be uploading any more videos on the XR? I really like your scenery and your camera has fine quality. You ride at a good pace too.
I do have more footage from my Colorado trip to upload still. I hope to get more done this winter.
@@chadgoff4878 awesome :)
Chad Goff please upload more! I watched all of your vids :(
I liked the video i would have subscribed i but noticed that you don’t reply to questions. Just a hint.
Unfortunately, Chad was killed coming home from work but his videos live on. Bike vs 2 deer vs SUV. Tragic accident. 😢
🙄🙄🙄
With stock jetting did you notice any differences at high elevation? I read that cinnamon pass is 12,000+ft
