Thank you for this comprehensive demonstration. It's going to be very helpful to future technicians and photographers who have to maintain their own equipment in the future.
Excellent professional job of cleaning the lens glass. But the greatest pleasure is to see Mike with such love and joy to perform each of his works. My sincere respect. Best regards and take care. From México City.
Thank you for the great video! Very good instruction! It just came in handy for disassembling, cleaning and reassembling my Industar-22 (1955) which only differs in some details! I use this with my Leica Standard E (1932) because I don't have the original Elmar 3.5 / 50 nickel.
Hi for those interested I just dismounted a summaron 35mm f3.5 (gauss formula) and was able to clean it and suppress all the haze. The dismounting is a little different from the Elmer here. So if Andy body interested tell me I can help.
Kenneth: I love your helpful videos. Maybe you can help me in cleaning my 3.5cm, F3.5 Leica LTM Summaron lens. I have been able to remove the outer lens elements (front and rear) held in with threaded rings but i cannot remove the inner lenses to access them or the aperture blades. I have tried unscrewing them using rubber cones and even tried dropping a little acetone around the lens to break the threads biut nothing comes loose. Is there something I am missing? I cannot find a good diagram of the internal pieces of the lens to understand its deign.
I have a original elmar from a 1a and the light trap bit at the back is seemingly one piece. I can see threading or ribbing of the metal just behind it. I have tried using all the force I dare to remove it and have had no luck. I think it might end up being a case of destructive removal and then machining a new part from brass.
I have a meter model, serial 83 XXX and it has light baffles behind the rear elements that are painted in with no notches, I pretty much stopped watching at that point :-)
Hello, great video, I have followed the video but unfortunately I can't get the lens out, I have tried as shown in the video, any tips you could give me would be appreciated? Thank you
Hello Sir, wonderful instructions, I am fairly confident I may be able to clean my similar Leitz Elmar 1:3.5 50mm, although mine does have a serial number so it may be a bit more recent than your sample, all of the elements of the lens you are working on are the same (so far) as my lens except the first two rings (light traps) you remove from the inside. Mine does not appear to be two pieces. I have photos but not sure how to post in comments here. I cannot determine if mine is a pressure fit or just how to remove it. Any ideas or source for diagram would be much appreciated. Wonderful channel, a bit addictive I must say...
Hi dear, can you help me to find the item down below of this lens ( the adjustable focusing the lens). Because i have a enlarging lens hexar 50mm f÷3.5 but I don't know how to buy the tube which adjustable focusing. Thank you.
Great video. I will definitely return to it. (Minor point but it is my pet hate! - plural words in English do not have apostrophe - so videos, not video’s; thanks, not thank’s etc.)
I'm by no means an expert on that. But if the lens is not coated and the scratches aren't very deep, I would say that repolish is an option. If it's coated you'll remove or damage the coating by doing so. As I said I'm no expert but I don't think that repolishing will affect the optical properties of the lens, in my opinion is better than having a scratched lens anyways

Why do you use the "idiot's apostrophe" in "400 video's". This is plural und you write it "videos". Only genitiv is written with apostrophe: My father's house"

This is the very reason that I am here. I'm about to clean my Industar. 👍🏻
Congrats on the 400th video! You've inspired me to buy broken cameras and fix them myself so I've been doing it for like a year now.
I'm happy to know that, I hope you have a lot fun wih repair different camera stuff.
thanks, my favourite tip is using bits out of a printer, and it just so happens i had those parts just in case, now they are usefull.
nice in-depth video, thank you! And to everyone commenting on his cough... mind your own business 😤😂
what a beautiful lens!
thanks for sharing this with us!

Hi there; is it possible that the base plate with the meter scale could remain on the camera while unscrewing the lens? This occurred on my Leica III

To remove the lens from the body is it simply a case of removing the screws on the lens flange and lifting off?
Where is the camera the lens came off of ?
this is very interesting
Excellent video !!!!! What sizes are the screwdrivers you use ?
Thanks Rino, I use a 1,2mm flathead screw driver.
Is it possible to repair a scratched front lens? Repolish or spare lens replacement?

I would like to know how much it would cost to cla my lens
please tell me you can wipe the lenses medical alcohol?
I will work fine if it's Isopropylalcohol 99% or 90% or 70%

Not really but the distance to the sensor has to be correct in a way so you can get the correct focus.

Sorry, I do not have repair service.
Don't use too high of a Hydrogenperioxide concentration or you could ruin the lens element that are cemented.
I only use the Hydrogen Peroxide 3%.
