    This was successful in a zuiko olympus lens too. Thanks for this. Great work.

    Wow, great job. I have a 70 yr old Arriflex periscope viewfinder that has fungus. I don't have the tools to attempt this myself but it looks like the peroxide treatment would probably do a great job.I wish I could get you to do a video on it.

    Hi Mikeno62 !! Although my Elmar 90mm f:4 is the same as the one you disassembled, mine has another black ring with two small screws on the front around the trim with the data and serial number... should I remove them to unscrew the front? Is it another type of disassembly that I have to do? I haven't touched anything until I heard you... you are a genius!!! Thank you so much !

    Thanks for this great video. I have this lens and would like to clean it but I can't do the first step, taking the optical unit off the helicoid. It is just stuck. I have tried with my rubber gloves. What should I do now? Heat with a hair dryer or a few drops of lighter fluid at the joint? My lens is the black version so it is much older. It is probably decades since it has been removed. I have the matching Visoflex helicoid so I would like to get it off to mount it there as well. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks again. I have learned a lot from watching your videos.

      Thanks Karen, to unscrew the optical unit you could use a cotton bud and then apply some Isopropylalcohol 99% (if you can get that but I would guess a lower procent would work..) between the gap of the optical unit and the focus section, sometimes I also use nail polish remover with Acetone (take good care when use on plastic components because it can / will soften it!). Hope you can use the tip :-)

      @@mikeno62 thanks so much. I tried alcohol then acetone and the acetone worked. On the inside of the helicoid someone wrote 89 in pencil. Maybe the last time it was serviced? I need to clean and relubricate the helicoid so I will put in a request for that video sometime 🙂. Thanks so much for your help both in the comments and through your videos.

      BTW checked the serial number for my lens and it was made in 1936. It’s in great shape. Pretty cool.

    I need advice from you @mikeno62.
    To clean fungus on the lens, should using 3% hydrogenperoxide be enough? what about hydrogenperoxide 30% and 50%?
    Currently I use is 99% isopropyl.

    • @mikeno62
      @mikeno62  8 месяцев назад

      Sorry for the late anserv, I only use 3% Hydrogen Peroxide without water to get rid of the fungus, and it had worked in many, many lenses (and very few that it did not work...). But I have now buy some 10% Hydrogen Peroxide and will give it a try in a lens and also make a video about that.
      Some people mention that adding water to the Hydrogen Peroxide should make it stronger, but it didn't have that effect on the lenses I tryed yet.
      Isopropylalcohol 99% is a great cleaning solvent, but it does not have a big impact on Fungus, that's why it's better to use Hydrogen Peroxide.

    Hello!
    Thanks for your videos!
    Do you have any information on how to disassemble a mamiya sekor 65mm k/l
    I have fungus I would like to clean, and the mounting ring is stucked
    Cheers!

      Maybe this video can help you, I have made a video about this Mamiya-Sekor Z f=127mm 1:3.8 W.
      I know this lens is for the Mamiya RZ, but there are many of the same things when it comes to lens cleaning in the Mamiya RB lenses, of course the lens is build in a different design, but I hope it can be useful.

    Hi,
    May I ask why do you use Hydrogen-Peroxid 3%? Is it okay if I use higher percentage of Hydrogen Peroxide? Says 7%?
    Thank you.

      Well, it depense how damaged the lens element is, Hydrogen Peroxide 3% is in my opinion good in many cases.

    Does anyone know how to separate the optical block from focusing part in Steinheil MUNCHEN Culminar VL 13.5cm f4.5 (L39 mount)? Is is just screwed together in the middle? The glass is clean but the focusing feels very dry, I like to add some HELIMAX.
    Also, what is the size of the thread on the lens body that holds the LTM end-piece?

    • @mikeno62
      @mikeno62  4 года назад

      Sorry but no. But to cleaning the helicoids you can use Isopropylalcohol 99% or so, and then re-lube with the smallest amount of MoS2 grease on the helicoid threads, I think when the using the HELIMAX in som lenses are a little too stiff when turning the focus ring (Just my meaning..).
      But REMEMBER to count how many turns the helicoids will turn untill they get off the thread, and also to set small marks when the helicoid get off the thread.
      You can also BEFORE disassemble, measure how long the focus assembly is at infinity, just so you have a kind of a "backup" when you assemble it again.
      And take many picture during the process, it's important!

    Can this damage an early coating (eg from the 40-50s) ? I have a dirty jupiter 8 of a kiev 2 (from 1952) and the coating looks so fragile....
