I think I would have peed myself if I would have plugged in this cartridge back in the day! Some of these are totally new looking effects i had not ever seen on the Genesis including the demoscene!
yeah, I agree that this demo has some really cool effects for the system, especially the FMV of the rocket chip taking off. I do think that programmers from back then would have been amazed to see anything like this. this is also the first major tech demo for the genesis since 2019 with Resistance's "The Spiral", its not as common to see demos for this system compared to other old systems like the Atari 2600, but the results of demoscenes on the genesis are actually really cool :)
Looking at these effects, some of them could've been pulled off (with obvious cutbacks) on the Sega Master System, which hit store shelves in 1986. Imagine a demo station set up using color cycling, reflections, and a objects using textured polygons (even a few hundred per frame) back in the day. Heads would've exploded. Rightly.
I knew the system was FMV capable from stock, but seeing the Shuttle on full colors was like "who puts a NASA ad in the middle of the vide.... .... oh... FUCK!"
yeah, developers of tech demos go way beyond what's thought to be possible for consoles and do a good job at it, this is one of the best demos for the system i would say :)
Wow, this must've been the sickest MD demo I've ever seen! Everything is awesome: from the graphics to the very well-composed tune, and that impressively clear voice clip, it all fits so nicely and runs so smoothly! Props!
yeah, that's what's cool about FM synthesis I would say, newer than the 8-bit sounding NES but not as advanced as the 16-bit sample sounding SNES, kind of like a nice in between of the two
Great demo and technical achievement. The track also slaps and reminds of Dope by Complex (Jugi's Onward Ride), e.g. 1:45 seems to be inspired by ruclips.net/video/HtXxM0pezAs/видео.html
I know there are certain effects that the Genesis can't do as well as a super Nintendo can but are there any effects that the Genesis can do that the super Nintendo cannot do?
I believe there could be some effects that are unique to the genesis, probably not much though since the SNES has superior hardware in every aspect besides the CPU, better performance in 3D rendering is the only one I can think of
@@Bentastic64 Megadrive/Genesis and SNES lacked sprite scaling hardware, but MD/Gen was more "flexible" (or maybe less limited, since the 68K was a general purpose CPU) in what tasks CPU can do, so you can find a good number of titles with some level of scaling (Road Rash series, Ranger-X) or rotation (Mega Turrican for some enemies, although you can argue it's "pseudo-rotation").
I can agree with that, the Overdrive tech demos are the best ones for the Sega Genesis, other demos like this and Red Eyes are still pretty good in their own ways too
@@Bentastic64 I dunno. This is pretty comparable to the first Overdrive. The falling checkerboard effect was pretty amazing, but these guys are doing pretty clean compressed full motion video, and the tunnel effect with rotation is something I haven't seen, either.

@@Bentastic64 amazing thx
Can't wait for the 9 emulator comparison video :P
lol, i wonder if there would be any differences on certain emulators
@@Bentastic64 Probably, especially with some of the older ones.

yeah, effects like the ones on this tech demo would have been the most impressive thing to programmers back then I imagine
@@Bentastic64 Yeah, and the Nintendo kids would be crying on their Power Gloves, heh heh.

I'd like to see a new MD/Genesis game that uses all these tech demo tricks
that would be really neat, maybe some homebrews in the future for the genesis might have tech demo like effects
Awesome Full motion video!!!
Yeah, the FMV from tech demos on the Genesis are quite impressive :)

Magnificent ❤
I agree :)
Mind BLOWN
- Nintendo
i think that's definitely what Nintendo would say if they saw something like this back in the 90s
SNES scene has been real quiet since this dropped
Impressive, for the time. I wish Sega never stopped making consoles
I think sega genesis feels so special to me.. maybe the YM2612. Though inferior to SNES, it feels more mystical

Is there an emulator that works with this rom? , none of the ones I tried work correctly
for me the Kega Fusion and Blast Em emulators have worked with this
It’s just so cool ❤
Yeah! :)
Cool video
indeed :)
i dont know what any of this means and i really want to find out
this is the closest thing i can think of that resembles this tech demo: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kessler_syndrome
🤘👍👍👍🎥💥
nice :)

Meh.
Not anywhere near as good as Overdrive or Overdrive 2 if you ask me.
