brutal to no height at regionals. I can relate! Was off by 3 inches from qualifying for states in my final year. Pole vault was some of the most amazing times of my life. I miss it.
This helps me a lot. I am class of 2022 and I started this year. I was also a gymnast so it is indeed very helpful to be able to compare the two and use my gymnastics experience to help improve in pole vault!
Class of 2022 as well, this is my first year vaulting and it seems great so far, I'm a rock climber so I thought they're similar enough. Although the senior vaulter hates me because I'm left handed😂
the pole vaults are amazing but what is also interesting is how to fall away gracefully and safely on a failed vault. it was very nice to see these get included as well!
on a pole-vaulting binge and from an ex-gymnast, seeing that you were also once a gymnast gives me some sort of hope that I can possibly start pole vaulting :)
gosh this makes me wish I had done pole vault more than just during the spring track season. my official PR is just 9' but I've cleared a 9'6 bar in practice (and that was on an 11' pole, oh the possibilities 😩) In my sophomore year I was not healthy, and the I never got a season junior year due to the pandemic. It's great to see other people being successful in their endeavors though! I hope that even though I've graduated I can figure out some way to keep pole vaulting because it's so much fun! Amazing progress 😁
Well done. Very impressive and interesting to watch. As you progressed, it is easy to see your form getting closer to "perfect" with no superfluous movement. Like watching a diagram of forces.
Awesome video, awesome skills! Watching Olympics vaults made me want to see more of a progression of levels, thanks for keeping the videos to document it!
Your form is so good. And I go to the same high school as you. Flowermound highschool. I can do 7 feet right now but I’m trying to get better. You progressed really good in just one year.
Great progression! .Vaulted in High school and freshman year of college in late 80’s. ,We had the choice of only 2 poles, AMF pacer and the old “Catapole “ which had a crazy delay where you kind of hung there in your rock back then were launched. I couldn’t use it and went with AMF Pacer. My advice is find the best coach & equipment you can. Speed and strength train year round. My college coach was an 1980 Olympic Decathlete and he took my technique apart and then rebuilt it as we had no significant coaching in high school. My friends dad had a Sony Betacam and that’s how we filmed technique. A back injury ended it for me and I wasn’t on scholarship so my career ended at 13ft. It was an awesome feeling to have a good vault. Good luck and go for it!
I had my first meet today, I couldn’t get over 5’6 and I’m really upset with myself. I was getting over 5’6 and almost 6’0 at practice, I think I was just overwhelmed with the crowd. How do I block the crowd out, and focus on the pole vaulting without over thinking?
Yourz Only Rylee my suggestion is to remind yourself that you’re the one pole vaulting and a lot of the people watching will enjoy watching what you’re doing regardless of how good or bad you do. I don’t know if that helps at all but it usually keeps me in check!
You think that's bad? I'm doing pole vault this year as a freshman but I did Diving earlier in the year as well, when u dive it's just completely silent and everyone is focused on you. Its terrifying
J Ski oh no!! I’m glad that it’s not just me struggling 😂. I hope you get better at diving and pole vaulting! Just silence out the crowd like you’re there alone and realize there is nothing to lose as long as you tried your best❤️.
Why was this recommended to me. I am from India lol. Yet I have watched the entire video. Good luck with 12, 13 and possibly 20 in the future. Master the technique of planting the pole and everything else would be taken care of.
Yo! You vaulted at Marcus? That was my highschool class of '14 I vaulted under Brevard and Coach T. Keep up the hard work. My breakthrough was 8th grade hit 11,6 then 12,6 freshman year 13 sophomore and my final year junior year I was 13,6 official and 15,3 in practice with a bungee. If I wasn't such a degenerate in highschool I would've broke the record my senior year. No pass no play. Such BS. I had goals of being an Olympian. Trained for a short stint with Coach Chapman In Killeen. A student I vaulted with in Middle school that was a year older than me ended up my competition when I went to regionals at A&M in highschool. He's now going to be competing in the Olympics this year with his wife! Wolf Mauler. Be sure to check him out and root for him. I don't think he vaults anymore though sadly
I don’t know how high this is because I‘m a European vaulter lol. You probably hear this a lot from your coach, but if you are able to keep that pole away from your body at take-off, you be able to jump a meter higher easily.
I am trying out pole vaulting for the first time. I am super nervous. We have a meet on April 6th and I need to find time to practice more. Do you have any tips that helped you throughout the way?
Any sort of jumping drills, getting on a pull up bar and working a swing, practice turning and getting inverted. This is gonna sound crazy but one of the best is 300 squats, 300 push ups, and 300 sit-ups daily. Squats = jumping power push-ups = help pushing the pole and sit ups = help speeding up your turn and better aerial control of the body
I’m going to be completely honest I still have not been able to start with my arm straight. Pushing it out straight after the initial bend came naturally so I can’t help much, but a lot of slide box drills if you have the means to do them would be my best guess
So I’m a pole vaulter I was gonna do it my freshmen year but corona happened so it got cancelled! But I’m short and I’m a gymnast do u think that would help me? I know it’s a dumb question 😂
being tall or short doesn’t matter as much as how high you can jump/how explosive you are. As a former gymnast though I can definitely tell you gymnastics helps a TON. Not a dumb question at all I had the same ones!
Depending on what kind of athletic background you have the struggles vary. Some things have come easy to me that others struggle with after years of jumping and vise versa so it’s difficult to give a right out answer to that one. Figure out your strengths and weaknesses as you go and work on them as needed. As for getting ready/training, warm ups are SO important, stay on top of your strength training and most importantly take care of you body!! Eat right, take care of your muscles & joints, get the sleep you need, stretch!
no offense but what you spent like a month trying to do in the beginning me and my friend did in less than an hour of practice idk maybe you were just trying to get used to it first
No offense taken! Everybody is different and has to face different things. In gymnastics I was left left dominate for 13 years so I did everything on my left side and then when I started pole vaulting I’m right handed so I had to start taking off with my right leg and was battling 13 years of muscle memory. Took a while to get used to. Good for you and your friend!! happy y’all were able to have some fun and get it done!
we’ve had the privilege of having years of consistently good and successful vaulters so we were able to build up our pole vault equipment etc. but yes it is high school. We are extremely lucky kids !! :)
I’m sorry about that! We filmed all of our practice videos in slow motion for break down reason and trying to put it back in regular motion cuts pieces out of the video :/
took me 2.5 years even under the coaching of an Olympian to clear 11'6". Super nice work
Wow - maybe the “Olympian” wasn’t meant to be a coach. Experience is not always the best teacher, communication and knowledge are.

@@dayju24We hadn't measured before covid-19 cancelled the season
DayJu 24 i’m an ex gymnast too, hopefully starting when this is all over!
shreya p you’ll do great! It’s so fun!
This is really inspiring. I'm not a pole vaulter but it's good to be reminded that excellence requires perseverance. Well done.
Currently I’m a freshman high school pole vaulter and I just wanted to say that your form is really good! I am really inspired by this.
the pole vaults are amazing but what is also interesting is how to fall away gracefully and safely on a failed vault. it was very nice to see these get included as well!
Somebody posted this to Reddit and I am here cheering along. I hope you’re still chugging away and working on new personal bests!

Keep up the hardwork. Prayers and best wishes for you

Nice progression. Quite interesting, first time watching this many pole vault attempts EVER.

You're awesome. Great job.
Aww pole vaulting looks like so much fun it looks like you're flying, but I'm too scared of heights so I just can't do it😖
Great work! I miss this so much.
That was really cool! Thank you for sharing!
I know nothing about the P.V., but that is Amazing progress in such a short time. Kudos.
Wow... such fun progress!

Wow in America schools have so much equipment and varieties of sports to learn in uk when I was at school we had a field and a sand pit for long jump
Travail,travail,travail.
keep up the good work!!

Emma Cook even if u can’t pole vault I usually go for a jog & at least do abs to get blood flowing. Also drills!
Don’t get rejected by the box it’s not fun
Veronica Turner thank you! 💗
Alex Alex? You i’ll keep that in mind 🙃
class of 22 just started about 2 months ago and my pr is 12’. don’t think it looks as clean as your jumps though lol.
Do you think one can progress this fast without any gymnastics background? 😬
Keep it up!
I’m interested in recruiting you, what’s the best way of getting ahold of you?
In 12 and I’m trying 7 foot but good work I couldn’t do that
Keep working and you can!! It takes time and patience
This was an interesting to watch! Is the technique for women diff then guys? Maybe i just never seen guys do it in slow motion?
Sorry for the late response!! It’s no different really just depends on the person :)
So what you're saying is pole jumping has its ups and downs, but eventually your feet will be planted?
currently 2 months in getting 10'6 freshman year is that good?
I’ve almost took my own life twice just attempting the baby gate in the hall way. GJ.
Any tips for a youngin ? workouts that are beneficial?

Depends on the jump. In this video I use poles from 10’6 110 or so all the way to 13’ 140s. Thank you!!
Nice! How did you work on straightening your arm? I keep having my left arm bent prior at plant

Is she doing like, beginner level? If so, is it good progress? I’m about to start lessons, and idk how well I’d improve in 4 months
girl grew a way taller within a year
I'm not sure I could put that much trust in some thin piece of wood/plastic... perhaps if it were carbon fiber or some space age materiel.
Poles are made of fiber glass I believe &/or a mix of fiber glass and carbon fiber !
If you don't mind me asking, what length Poles do you use?
The length of the poles in this video range from about 10’ at the beginning to 12’-13’ poles towards the end
