I saw a number of Jerry Garcia Band shows at the Keystone Palo Alto in 1978, I was aware that I was seeing some of the most supreme musical performances I would ever see. An early show and then a late show. time of my life. Donna Godchaux & Maria Muldaur would sometimes ask me to get pitchers of beer or soft drinks from the bar and bring them up to the stage, 'cuz I was dancing right in front of them all night.

I saw a bunch of shows at the Keystone Berkeley the year before 1977, with just Donna singing. It seemed like Jerry loved playing with this band, as he appeared free, easy and smiling a lot. Same with John Kahn. But just watching video didn’t look like Donna and Maria had much fun. Not sure if you picked up anything regarding that.

Now that's a monster of a 'Mystery Train' Kahn & Tutt driving it like Casey Jones on a key from Peru while Keith 🔥🔥🔥 & Jerry 🔥🔥🔥 are just ripping.

The Travis Bean TB500 with aluminum neck. To me his tone sounds particularly bright and “metallic” in this period.

“Sitting here in Limbo” defines the feel of this show so eloquently. Especially how they open the tune.. laidback and easy.
Thank you Jimmy Cliff for writing and Jerry for this perfect rendition..
Jerry always had a gift for interpretation of the original into his own feel..

I'm always amazed at how much music that Jerry had to give. This guy was ALWAYS on tour or on a stage somewhere. Music was what Jerry lived for and he gave the best he had to give on any given night. It's magic on tape, true honest real tangible magic. Thanks for sharing Dave, always a pleasure man✌.

He never stopped. He’d take a break with the dead and then legion of Mary or old in the way and always exploring new music and people to play with. When he took on the peddle string , it was special because “it had him” at first until he made sure “he had it. “. He even asked bobby to sing dire Wolf 🐺 because he was just learning

Think about how many lives Jerry reached by playing guitar, even after he is gone. Now think about all the guitar players in the world, no matter how good they are their reach is dwarfed by Jerry’s. He was an exceptional musician. A genuine positive force of nature that we all benefit from. And still giving

Nice to hear John Kahn turned up on TLEO. He's always too low in the mix. Reminds me of the JGB @ The Shoreline 1990 DVD. You see John Kahn moving up and down the neck, like a madman, but hear nothing : ) He's a really solid bass player.

Keith's the man. Nobody better. IMO of course:) as for Donna, well nothing gets close to 72-74 for me so in my little ideal Dead place the only member who was surplus was Mickey. Never felt he added anything. Billy was drummer enough for several bands. There is a Grateful Dead or JGB for us all though. ✌🏽✌🏽🤙🏽
