Great tip for establishing a style, especially for portraits. A great followup video would be to show how to create a profile that can be imported to Lightroom. While its not fully editable (you can adjust the strength or opacity) it would enable you to get what you've created without having to go into Photoshop every time.
Thank you again. Soon there are going to be 355K pro editors out there pushing the photographic boundary to new levels :-) 10/10 for the time you take sharing your knowledge.
Thank you for that lesson, I'm starting to use Gradients more as I like composite photos, and gradients blends all the different elements so that the look like they belong together.
I had never heard of gradient maps until watching this video either. Great video and something I will definitely try! Thanks so much. This looks better than using the wheels in Lightroom for HL, midtones and shadows to develop a style.
Thank you so much for this video! I have bin doing the color grade “manually” now this will give me a good starting point, and save me a lot of time! 👍 Thanks again!
Cool technique easy to use. Used it with several gradients on portrait and landscapes to give some old photos some new drama. Good job and informative as always.
Great video. I always learn something new with your videos. Is it possible to do a "poor mans" emulation of this with the new color grading capabilities in Lightroom.
Great video, thanks Anthony! But what is the equivalent where I could get the same effect in Lightroom? Some mixture of Curves and Split Toning? The Gradient Tool with Range Masks to target the brightest and darkest zones in an image with colorize? It would be nice to create something similar in Lightroom.
Great tutorial again, Anthony! Would gradient maps ever do well in landscape images? I am asking because I am vision color deficient, so I don't always see things "correctly!"
Thanks, just played around with it a bit, and seems like a viable alternative to the Lightroom color grading tool when maybe you want something you can't get with it -- or vice versa?
Hi Anthony, quick question, my image is changing into a negative instead of B&W, I noticed that the gradient is reversed in the properties tab. How do I change that?
Apparently only available in Mac version. I clicked on the Gradient Adjustment tool, went to the menu upper right, and it is not there for my Windows machine. Using PS version 22.4.3

I have been watching so many videos to try to learn this I don’t know why I’m such a slow learner and yours is the best thank you so much
Thank you again. Soon there are going to be 355K pro editors out there pushing the photographic boundary to new levels :-) 10/10 for the time you take sharing your knowledge.
I must confess that I had never heard of gradient maps before using this video. I'll be eager to try one when I take an applicable photo. Many thanks.
Same here!
Thank you for that lesson, I'm starting to use Gradients more as I like composite photos, and gradients blends all the different elements so that the look like they belong together.
Gradient maps used by other guys always confused me. You explained it so well. Thanks.

Thanks again!
Gosh I’m so grateful. This video with your teaching style has made it so clear for me. Thank you. 🙏🏽
I was vaguely aware of gradient maps, but never really did anything with them. Looks like I will have to try some of these out!
I had never seen or used this before - now i am addicted !!!! :) Another outstanding tutorial - thank you so much.
Cool technique easy to use. Used it with several gradients on portrait and landscapes to give some old photos some new drama. Good job and informative as always.
Great Photoshop Tutorial
Thanks Anthony, can’t wait to try this!
Changing it to Noise and smoothness to 0-10 and using the Randomize feature is good for inspiration also
Thanks for this. I do believe I am going to use the info from this video a lot. Thanks again.
Excellent. Helped me a lot.
wow never knew about the hidden legacy gradients, thank you for sharing your knowledge!!
Nicely explained & comprehensive tutorial, thanks Anthony!
Thank you.
Good information!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I will have to try this on some of my portraits.
every Lightroom day is a school day - really liked this
Thank You for the alternative - looking forward to test it and is opening to me a lot of options! Cheers
Thank you ! Another thing I was unaware of
Very succinct directions. Many thanks.
Great.. !! Something which I didn't know. Your explanation was easy and made simple . Thankyou
Great video Anthony, very well explained. There's so much to learn in PS so it's always nice to be shown a new technique.
Thanks Anthony. I like your tutorials.
Great video. I always learn something new with your videos. Is it possible to do a "poor mans" emulation of this with the new color grading capabilities in Lightroom.
I was wondering where those all went, cool to see they are still in there somewhere!
Thank you!
Thank you
Thanks!!
Really useful info. Thank you
Yo that was really nice lesson I will start using this for now on
They were always there but after watching your lesson I will give this a try. Hey..I can mess up any photograph as well as the next person.😇
Beautiful Thank you!
Excellent.. thank you
Wow, so good!

Random aside: the FroKnowsPhoto reference at the beginning was funny
Awesome video! But what exactly are gradient maps? Tint? LUT’s?
I’ve not used the gradient map on any of my portraits, but I may now. I’ll be sure to tag you on Instagram when I have one ready.
thanks
Nice. Does Affinity have this or a similar feature?
Can you use two gradient maps then blend the shadows and highlights together using layer blend-if?
Wow!
Bedankt
Thank you so much!!!
Would this be considered a final treatment after doing your other adjustments?
sorry out of topic,
is this feature (legacy gradient) included in affinity photo?
Triple AAA rating.
Amazing Awesome Anthony.
Thank you
Hello Anthony.. Can you stack these as layers..
Don't you think other blend modes look more interesting, like for example overlay?
Hi Anthony, quick question, my image is changing into a negative instead of B&W, I noticed that the gradient is reversed in the properties tab. How do I change that?
Is there a way of doing Gradient Mapping in and stay in LRC?
Lightroom alternative.?
Try colour grading in LR
Hi Anthony cN you do a preset with this?
how to export gradient map to lightroom or capture one?
Thanks, can you load a gradient map from another source? i.e. internet?
Yes. In the same little context menu where you load the legacy gradients, you can export or import gradient maps.
Apparently only available in Mac version. I clicked on the Gradient Adjustment tool, went to the menu upper right, and it is not there for my Windows machine. Using PS version 22.4.3
Jennings, it's not the Gradient Tool or Adjustment Layer, it's the Gradient *Maps* Adjustment Layer.
It’s not working for me I do not get the color panels
But what is a dementor doing in the shot? Looks like he’s coming for the model.
