Fun fact: the queen watched the first ever F1 race
She was also a qualified motor mechanic in World War 2
@@hodgheg More than that, she worked mostly on the Anti Air side of things. Basically, she knows he way around a wrench very well, even at her age now.
But Betty White is the Queen’s granddaughter
That’s actually mad though
I think you will find that was her mum, queen Elizabeth, not queen Elizabeth the 2nd, the queen mother(queen Elizabeth) was not the monarch, just married to, like the Duke of Edinburgh isn't the king, just a prince, but due to the rules of the time a male air to the thrown his wife becomes honorary queen, but because queen Elizabeth the 2nd is female, the Duke of Edinburgh can't be called a king, simple lol. Princess Margaret was there though.
Ewan walks up to receive his OBE
Ewan: hello there
Charles: GENERAL KENOBI!!!!
OBE Wan Kenobi
"You receive The Order of the British Empire for your service to the Force"
More like: General Can Obe!!
I am so glad Sir Lewis hamilton has been given the recognition he so deserves just a born winner with respect to his mum & dad
I love how they all talked like a bunch of friends gathering together, the best show ever! If Graham were a British citizen, he definitely could get one!
Nothing to do with it. He can be nominated for various awards.
after all this time I thought he was british, no wonder he hasn't got british accent
@@dbdb9334 Everything to do with it. Irish citizens are not eligible for British awards. As soon as Terry Wogan was made a British citizen he was knighted, not before.
@@danish5332 he’s Irish
Irish citizens (and those of any other Nation) can be awarded any UK State Honour, up to and including Knighthoods.
Steven Spielberg is knighted, as are Bill & Melinda Gates among many others.
Sir Ian McKellan, Sir Derek Jacobi, Sir Elton John... being gay is not a barrier to receiving an honour... not being British is...
Mijaed Getu it’s because bloody graham is Irish it has nothing to do with him being gay😂😂😂
😂😂😂
check out Sir Vivian Richards and Sir Richard Hadlee...both definitely not British!
Pumudu Madde Order of the British Empire.
Gianfranco Zola though...
Lewis Hamilton, Euan McGregor and Jack Whitehall. What a selection.
Now _Sir Lewis Hamilton_
Dining etiquette : The hostess always starts table conversation with the person to her right. Lewis was on the Queen's left, and that's why he had to wait. My grandmother taught that to us. The Book of Etiquette by Lady Troubridge was her bible.
Well thanks
Had no idea.
Thought I was fully covered with proper dining etiquette.
I was just about to type that, there’s lots of rules including how she sits too, but yes right first 👍
@@debbypurcell6215 no such thing as proper dining etiquette.
Thanks. Never knew that.
Why the right though?
I don't think britts realise how good of a champion Lewis Hamilton is.
Ooooh... especially these last few days; the kind of flak he's received from the British public for the DMX tweet.
100% Lewis has won 7 championships of the last 8 years and broken all most all F1 records. He's the 3rd best F1 driver ever, as great as Lewis is i cannot says he's a better driver than Senna and Schumacher
I'm sure those who care about F1 realise how good he is.
As for non-F1 fans they're like that "if a tree falls in the forest" saying; sure there might be some sort of sound or noise coming out of their mouths but nobody cares.
I don't think the world understands how Lewis really isn't as big of a champion that we make him out to be.
The GOAT. Statistically. You cannot argue wih mumbers. They are facts.
I don't know anything about Formula 1 but Lewis Hamilton appears to me to conduct himself like a gentleman. I can see that the Queen would genuinely enjoy having him to lunch, as opposed to feeling obliged to have speak to him as part of her official duties.
You just hit the nail on the head!
He’s fairly different in F1. More isolated to win I suppose. Not a bad thing obviously, but it’s rare you’ll find Hamilton in any of the media RUclips videos, especially after the recent season
Don't matter to me whether he gets OBE, he's a comedy host knight.
Why can’t he get one?
Aiden Matthews because he's from Republic of Ireland so is not eligible
@@FilmFanAiden he's irish
So the Queen had style - she really wanted to talk to Lewis, gave the other guy 5 mins and blew him off and talked to Lewis.
Actually the queen has to talk to the person on their right first and then they can talk to the person on their left. It’s some kind of unwritten law in England.
When everybody in the comments saying that graham norton should be allowed an obe and the only reason he doesn't have one is because he's gay. NOOOOOO!!!! Order of the BRITISH empire. He's not british he's from the republic of ireland, the independant part of ireland.
Terry Wogan is Irish and he got knighted, same as Bob Geldof. Irish people can get knighted which is the same
Being knighted is actually different
Firstly, no they aren't the same. Secondly, Wogan was a British citizen. He was also born before 1949, before Ireland became a republic, so he was eligible having been born a citizen of one of 'His Majesty's dominions'. As he had lived most of his life in the UK, he decided late in life to use that to get out British citizenship, so he had both Irish and British citizenship. Fourthly, Bob isn't a knight, though the media wrongly say he is. He got an HONORARY knighthood, which is a different thing. So technically he isn't 'Sir Bob Geldof' just 'Mr Bob Geldof, KBE'. Ronald Reagan was also an honorary knight. Graham could be offered an honorary honour. Irish citizens who receive them, whether from the Queen of the UK, some other country, or the pope, have to first have the approval of the Irish Government before they accept them, but the government always says yes.
Feareireann also Steven Spielberg is an honorary Knight, and Angelina Jolie an honorary Dame.
nialldocify Terry Wogan got one as he was born when Ireland was still in the commonwealth
"A wee old man in a kilt". I heard it like "a weird man in a quilt"
Lewis Hamilton!! Super to see him there. Thank you for having him.
“FFS, SERVICES TO BAGPIPE MUSIC I’VE DONE THE ROYAL VARIETY TWICE!!“ His rants are the best!! One day Jack, one day😭😂😂
He's so relaxed.... i love that vibe
And Lewis got one up on Ewan by getting a knighthood. Well done Sir Lewis 😀
I think Lewis got the MBE and Ewan got the OBE, so technically my understanding is that Ewan's honour is higher than Lewis'. But well done to them both all the same!
@@neverendingfire he got a knighthood in 2020. He's Sir Lewis now.
@@MsPinkwolf Ahh you're right, I do apologise. 😊😊
"How does a man not have a driver's licence?" xDD Classic Lewie
"You got one?""Nooo how am I gonna get one??""Oh right I got it" Gold xD
I dont understand, why cant he get one? Is it something to do with him being gay? I am not European so i dont know the rules regarding knighthood.
@@gametabulas No, it's because he's from the Republic of Ireland and hence not British.
@@adityamenon1664 oh ok thanks, i forgot that he was was Ireland.
No. Graham will never gonna get one because he is so against the monarchy
Is a honor to learn things with the Queen
I think I'm in love with Jack
Thanks for posting.
Sir Lewis is such a legend! GOAT 💜👑🐐
Came back here for the impression lewis did..
RIP Lizzy
Ewan: YOU WERE MEANT TO DESTROY MERCEDES NOT JOIN THEM!
YOU WERE MEANT TO BRING BALANCE TO FORMULA 1, NOT LEAVE IT IN DARKNESS!
The end though, "how am I gonna get one?", Hahaha
That laugh of Norton at 3:18 😂😂😂
2:56 Hahaha
Jack is adorable❤🙆❤
That is the best tartan I've ever seen!
One of the best pilot in F1
Jack will receive his honorary award.
This is frickin FUNNY
Services to bag pipes music is a good one
I was drinking water at 1:30
Can't believe they didn't mention how Nick Heidfeld looks like Obi-Wan Kenobi.
😂
A celebrity goes to Buckingham Palace in a taxi cab with his family to get an OBE? (1:44)
+Top Mog If he drove there, where would he park? Ever tried stopping on the Mall? You get moved on by armed police in about 3 seconds!
gixer turbo Well, they are not tourists. If they are getting an OBE they drive through the gates and park their vehicle inside: www.luxuryandstyle.co.uk/an-invitation-to-buckingham-palace/
Top Mog if he drove there he wouldn't even be allowed out of the car for a pee.
Have you ever taken a cab in London? They're bloody expensive!
I think this story was made up, to seem more relatable.
Have you got one? Ha ha!
Lewis Hamilton is gorgeous!
"Got it!"
Now he's Sir Hamilton.
Sir Lewis Hamilton
I feel sorry for Jack🤣🤣
Lewis hamilton's hairstyle looks cool!
A bit overqualified for just an MBE now....Sir Lewis Hamilton
7 titles?! Surely!
He'll be taking a knee for another reason soon, I would think.
Lewis will give the queen an OBE when he retires
It's Sir Lewis Hamilton now
Servicing motorcycle riders lmao
Jack Whitehall 🤣
Jack was so frustrated rofl.
IndianTelephone j
I want to know what Lewis and the Queen talked about for the whole meal
Probably cars. Queen loved cars 😊
Imo he is Britain’s greatest ever sportsman
Watching this after it was announced he would be knighted
Well you couldn't have watched it before lol
Good god, he is fine!
General Kenobi!
I turn one down
😂
This comment section made me learn what an OBE is. RUclips is useful after all
What is *an* obe?
@@ThARealSTG The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service
@@brianb1684 ooooo thanks man!!!
(Although I had googled it long ago ahaha, but thanks nonetheless!)
That headline was going to be my youtube comment. Yikes.

The most britishest thing i've seen 😂
anyone else here for Lewis? 💖👑
Hes looking at them laughing like " *_haha mortals_* "
2:50
Learned from the comment section that Graham Norton is Irish. Wow, I’d like to see him speaking in Irish accent. Anybody has a link to a video of that?
Look him up in father Ted
He does speak in an Irish accent
Lewis Hamilton is my favourite driver
1:28 jack smh
No dining etiquette at a family dinner 👍
and now he's been knighted 😆
lets say you're american and you get knighted or a title, you can't use it because your not a british citizen. if you became a british citizen at a later date, would you then be allowed to use your title properly?
***** Yes, for example when Terry Wogan got his KBE he was only an Irish citizen so he couldn't style himself as Sir Terry Wogan. However when he obtained dual British citizenship shortly after receiving his KBE he then was able to style himself as Sir Terry Wogan.
***** thank you so much!!! i was always wondering about that.
I'd say so as Kevin Spacey has recently received his knighthood (KBE) but can't style himself Sir Kevin Spacey but if he becomes a British Citizen then I think he can
Small note though, it's illegal for Americans to accept a title without permission from the US Government. I'm not sure if any other country is like that as well
and I'm pretty sure that his knighthood had since been revoked lol
Sir Lewis Hamilton, man can he sound more cool?
Ewan should have got an Uber.
Rip Lizzy
This was all about _Ewan._ _Lewis_ was mostly a spectator...
? Is that right or did I misunderstand?
Yeah... it's a protocol issue Lewis... she was really interested in talking to you then...
AM surprised he's not wearing a cap for once (Lewis)
guy in the middle looks like mac demarco
Hot Hot HOT!!!
Why does the middle dude look so much like batman
What’s an OBE and an MB?
Order of the British Empire and Member of the British empire
Honorary titles for services to Britain
Sir Lewis Carl Davidson Hamilton MBE
When Lewis smiles he looks like a young, lean and well tanned Arnold Schwarzenegger.
So, where in the clip does Lewis learn Dinning Etiquette from the Queen ?
It is a rule that, in the first part of the meal, the Queen only talks to the person on her right. Then, in the second part of the meal, she can talk to the person on her left (and that's not just her, it's for everyone in the table)
OBE Wan Kenobi
Why Graham could not get an OBE????
What did Ewan say at 03:22?
I think he said “you saved me from saying something very rude”
What's the name of the guy at the far right?
Jack Whitehall :)
+MegaUnfunny thank you!
Watch bad Education on Netflix. 😂
What did they mean at the end when Graham said "How am I going to get it?" and jack "Got it."
He's gay and Irish like two no nos usually
+Lwaldie1 No, fortunately homosexuality has nothing to do with it. Nationality does though which is pretty lame. To be honest the idea of monarchy is archaic and destructive, he's better off without it if you ask me
+Greg Brandstatter Monarchies can be archaic and destructive but luckily a lot of the ones that survive have done so by being a binding influence and generating a lot of popularity, like the UK, Swedish, Danish and Norwegian monarchies.
I semi agree, but I think society has outgrown the need for them now.
Greg Brandstatter
Well they are a significant tourist attraction so do bring in a lot of money, and with brexshit coming up we're going to need all the help we can get. I think that's the only real reason we still have them.
I don't understand why would Graham not get one? Irish? :-/
BirchBehav aye.
Nilguiri how rude! he is on the BBC for goodness sake. well stuff the queen and her medals :/
BirchBehav I couldn't agree more!
***** just seems really weird that a guy can work at the BBC "British Broadcasting corporation" for such a long time and not be a UK citizen. we need a Sir Norton lol
*****
In any case, he would become "Sir Graham", not "Sir Norton".
Wow I cant believe Jesus got an OBE.
Did Ewan tell him to stop being rude
so sad his marriage didn't last
Ya Jack make jokes bout ginger in afghanistan heat and you will get a obe!!!!
What actually qualifies someone to get an OBE? I'm not from the UK, slightly uncultured and genuinely confused about this.
FearlessStar1000 Anything, so says this Londoner.
You have different levels of awards, and different categorise for each level awarded yearly. Most are military, some for political or diplomatic work, services to britain (Spielburg uses a lot of british actors and studios), charity work etc. You can also get one in the same way that America has walk of fame, for personalities. Sports is also a big category. Categories are increasing.
if you greatly assist the British public, do something altrusitic or culturally impactful.
+Firstname Surname racing is culturally impactful. Seems legit...
+Adil Murridi well if you win 3 formula1 drivers championship for you country it is probably legit and culturally impactful

Why won't Graham get an OBE?
He's Irish
Craparella Smørrebrød My guess would be because he's homosexual and the British royalty being homophobic? I could be wrong though
Ash2303 Thanks
AngryScottish that has nothing to do with it. Elton John is openly gay and has a knighthood. Graham is simply not from the UK
monKing87 Ah, wasn't sure, since I knew a few Irishmen have received a OBE as well. Thanks for the correction...
hang on why cant graham get OBE?
He's from the Republic of Ireland
What is this new interface for the RUclips app for the iPhone 6? Wtf it's wired
Lewis Hamilton - the Derek Zoolander of F1
huh?
I see no negative points there.
"Maybe there's more to life than being a really, really, really, really, ridiculously fast racing driver, hm?"
Nah he’s the Lewis Hamilton of F1
They could have written "OBE Wan McGregor" too 😃
Bob Geldof is Irish and he is allowed to be called Sir as is Tony O'Reilly. Republic of Ireland is not part of the Commonwealth so not sure why Graham couldn't receive a title.
Rheinmeister09 actually bob is not allowed to be called Sir..
"When a foreign national receives an honorary knighthood of an order of chivalry, he is not entitled to the prefix Sir, but he may place the appropriate letters after his name. ... An honorary knight of an order of chivalry uses the appropriate letters after his name, but without the prefix 'Sir', because he is not eligible to receive the accolade."
Plus it is against Irish Constitution for an Irish Citizen to hold A knighthood.
Rheinmeister09 Re Reily:
"As a result of the British Nationality Act 1948, Irish citizens (citizens of the Republic of Ireland) no longer had British subject status from 1 January 1949 if they did not acquire citizenship of the UK & Colonies or that of another Commonwealth country, notwithstanding that the Irish Free State did not cease to be one of His Majesty's dominions until 18 April 1949. However, section 2 of the Act allowed certain Irish citizens who were British subjects before 1949 to apply at any time to the Secretary of State to remain British subjects. Applications had to be based on: previous Crown service under the United Kingdom government; possession of a British passport; or associations by way of descent, residence or otherwise with the United Kingdom or any Crown colony, protectorate, UK mandated territory or UK trust territory."
and he sought permission from the Irish Government and he is a British subject due to being born pre 1949
Rheinmeister09 Because of this: Article 40.2.2° of Bunreacht na hÉireann,"No title of nobility or of honour may be accepted by any citizen except with the prior approval of the Government"
+Rheinmeister09 that was an honorary and it can be given to anyone but the title can't be used unless you then apply for british citizenship!!!
