Carey Nordstrand and Dan Lutz demo the new Nordy Dan Lutz DL VM5 signature bass. Dan is elated with the outcome of this new design and wanted to really show off the wide array of tones available from the bass. Carey Nordstrand captured the audio in his studio using a UAD Apollo straight into ProTools.
Carey and Dan are amazed at the wide array of tones this bass can cover. Видеоклипы
I love this. This guy knows his instrument. Has great ears and explains his mindset so openly. Hes not precious about it. Fantastic.
Thank God I’ve just witnessed demo and the bassist can actually play
Wonderful instrument, wonderful player. What a fabulous sound!
The coil of the bigman closest to the neck could do a good impersonation of an Aria Pro 2, an l-1000, or a peavey foundation or t40. I really appreciate the faithful placement of the bigman. Best bass design Ive seen ever.
Carey that Bigman pickup is a monster tonewise. Awsome.
Great demo! 😎👍
This sounds awesome in all settings! Please bring it back! Btw.: I have an old bass which also kind of does that punchier P bass thing like the front coil of the Bigman: An Aria Pro II RSB Standard. It has just a splitcoil, but moved a little towards the bridge compared to a traditional Precision. Awesome sound!
What about that noble preamp!? Love mine
That bass sounds so good!! It is so expressive- great instrument, great player---- on a side note, when are the big blades going to market? ( I'm really looking forward to them )
+Carey Nordstrand Thank you for your reply, I'll keep my eyes peeled
Awesome!
I really like the Bigman sound 🔊
Carey, what was that at 13:42...? Lol
I want to do a bass with 2 Bigmen in it...that would be super fat!
Where could I get a Nordstrand Bass?
Since this video is 6 years old, I’m not sure Nordstrand still keeps tabs on it. But I’m wondering what the tonal differences are between the BigMan and BigSplitMan. I am considering a build with the same pickup configuration, but am also considering the BigSplitMan for ultimate Hum-Cancelling in all modes. The bass would also be Passive only.

How do you get more low end than a Stingray? I understand maybe more low mids will make it sound thicker... but my Stingray had more bottom than I knew what to do with.
***** It's just odd saying something can have more low end than a Stingray. I'm not sure if it's the EQ or the pickup but the Stingray while having a somewhat sculpted tone had sooo much bottom. It reminded me of having an effect like the Ultra Low engaged on an old Ampeg amp.
The Music Man preamp is naturally very bassy even when controls are set to flat. It was designed that way to make up for the tighter sound of the placement of the Music Man pickup.
Dan the front pick up of the bigman solo'd sound needs to be called the Midman!
That's some Nerdflingerin' growly goodness, right there!
Damn. To me, for me, this is way more versatile and “to my liking “ kind of tones than a Peavey t40. Looks way more nicer and unique as well. I mean damn, u can get MM tones, P bass, PJ, bridge placed jazz tones…wow! Plus the blend knob to 50/50, 75/25,25/75, etc… cant much better options than this!
This IS the perfect studio bass.... WOW!! .....but, you're not making instruments anymore, right??
the sound is good... just good... but I really don´t like the buzzing frets..! It is an annoying noise that does not help when you work at the studio...
+Carey Nordstrand Yeah.... You're right, that problem can solved with a good studio engineer... But, I have a lot of cheaper basses that do not make that annoying noise naturally and that is a really apreciated thing... I think you can use this comment as a valid observation. You get bored of the buzzing over time.
+Alex Delgado You know basses can be set up without the buzz, right?
+bagelbruin sure! but the setup is'nt the only trouble... the bassplayer technique count too...
No way man, buzzing frets is GRIND man! Adds a sonic character IMHO
A little bit of fret buzz can give some life to a bass sound. If you do not like it, play fretless electric bass or double bass.
Bad tone. Bad fashion sense. Idk.
