The thing that makes me angry about Putin's war---as Chancelor Scholz calls it---is how he has been willing to sacrifice so many, many young Russians by sending them into battle under-equiped and poorly trained. That in itself should be a war crime...
Yea, the "wonderful person", who doesn't accept his own daughter, who has such a huge ego he did everything to win in chess when he was an active player, who betrayed his own Motherland, who is hated by Russians.
I share his perspective on Western persistence in questioning Putin will "back down", etc. It is as if they read nothing of Russian political doctrine and ideology, and hear nothing about Putin and other officials say. We seem to be intentionally self deluded, or stubborn and recalcitrant in our wishful thinking. Frustrating indeed.
Lets have Kasparov as the next president of Russia! He is highly qualified and perfectly suitable. A man of dignity and international respect. A bridge over troubled water!
I think he was right about AI. When we think of AI we shouldn’t imagine Terminator because, not only is Terminator a piece of fiction, but a piece of fiction written by film producers who had no actual expertise in AI when they wrote it. How could they have any expertise? They wrote it back in 1984. The internet was still in its infancy and AI was a far off pipe dream at that point. My point is that very, very, very rarely are Hollywood films ever actually accurate representations of the concepts they are depicting. Real life Great Whites are not monsters like the shark in Jaws. Dinosaurs probably were not the roaring, ultra-aggressive, killing machines of Jurassic Park, and there’s no reason to assume or even suspect that AI will ever resemble anything like Sky Net.
Exactly right. A bunch of spoiled rich kids in the nepotistic clique called "Hollywood" making juvenile movies in California are definitely not the people to learn about things from, especially an emerging science like A.I., and I'd add that someone like Elon Musk, who is certainly not a scientist and didn't do the engineering that made him rich, is not one to learn from, either. When you actually learn about A.I. as I did in graduate school, it's hard to be frightened by what in reality is just another tool to do mathematical things like classification more quickly for whatever purpose. As the very wise Mr. Kasparov said, new technologies can be used for good and bad purposes, but A.I. is nothing like what people imagine.
The sleeper in Putin-analysis is history. Gary nicely picked up on this by likening Russia in 1991 to Germany in 1918. The echoes of the rise of Hitler are also clear to anyone who knows their history. The idea that someone robbed the great power of it's territory and dignity in a moment of weakness, that deep sense of shame and bitterness. The sense of grievance and desire to restore the great power to its rightful place. It's denial of the sovereignty and historical legitimacy of the successor states like Czechoslovakia for Hitler and Ukraine for Putin. The use of native language speakers in territories of the former imperial state was exactly the fact Hitler used to oppress his neighbours, all new democratic states, initially with politics, then militarily. Gary's observation about dictators lying about the past and being honest about the future is spot on. Let's not forget that Putin himself is obsessed by history. This interview deserves a wider audience. A suggestion to Dianne: you interview well Dianne, but better to let Gary speak and use his own (second) language rather than interposing your believed paraphrase of what you think Gary is saying. Your persistent interjections when Gary mentioned stomach missed his point and the repetition almost derailed the interview. Otherwise, great work.
Gary's reference to the Russian "stomach" was clear enough to me, but I imagine that other listeners might have attributed to it the meaning that Dianne ascribed to the term. (E.g., not having the stomach for a fight....) So I think that it was fair for her to ask for confirmation of her interpretation; or maybe she perceived both possible meanings and was just anxious to clear up the ambiguity.
The comparisons between democratically elected Putin and Hitler are completely absurd. You want a dictatorship look at modern Ukraine that is being held captive by a puppet government after the 2014 coup that overthrew democratically elected President Yanukovych. Kasparov may be a chess master but he is also an extremist communist sympathizer and his comments about his homeland are disgusting.
When I listen to Kasparov I remember why I never had any problems with intelligent people while I spent half of my life locking heads with the dumbar..es of the world who wanted to tell me, how arrogant it is to believe in your own judgement when everybody else is telling you otherwise... I love him (and his unforgettable chessplay!) - and he didn't loose against deep blue, they cheated, he knew it, they knew it. That's why they destroyed the log files immediately after the match...

What did he achieve in Politics to be an expert on the Ukraine invasion issue?
@@jazzffer True, Garry should better open a chess school in the US, which he has probably done.
Only a very tiny minority of Russian would vote for Kasparov. He is way too compromised with the west intelligence services.
Garry Kasparov is absolutely brilliant … a shining light
Kasparov is as great a champion for democracy and human rights as he is in chess. I salute him.
i like that guy talk ,such people are required at the helm of Russia to change things according to me......
Brilliant Man!
Chess master with exquisite insight into life - which is not a game. 🌹
When I was a young man I used to smile at the American stories about some crazy tyrants, but everything with Putin came true 😂😂😂
It's been terrible since forever in Russia/Soviet. They started to move in the right direction with Gorbachev, but the drunk lunatic after him made a u-turn, and even worse with Putin.
@@l.h.3586 Compared to the bare chested geopolitician, Yeltsin was an angel.
@@l.h.3586Yeltsin was literally sponsored by the USA.
@@earthandwind820Sponsored? You mean the West gave aid to Russia to help them Modernize? The aid which Yeltsin burnt to fuel his re election campaigns and electoral fraud?
@@earthandwind820 As was most all that helped russia survive the onslaught of the 3rd Reich such as most all of their industry/metallurgy which enabled them to build the tanks & guns for ww2 and of course the gift of lend-lease without which they had been facing the reich with a handful of Mosin-Nagant rifles and a tsar pushka. The lack of due gratitude by russian hordes is atrocious, isn't it! Talk about trying to bite the hand that feeds you....
I wish western mainstream media would give this great and wise man a platform.
I learn a lot from Gary Kasparovs' interviews.
The legend Garry Kasparov himself - always nice to listen to him.
An intelligent gentleman
Incredible. Genius. Chapeau!
Great interview!
Great person!
My respect for this man has reached a new level
THIS MAN IS TOO SMART FOR REGULAR RUSSIANS.
he's too stupid for even the stupidest Russian
Listen to this man, the world should listen to this man and keep him safe, a true Russian patriot
As a political analist, Kasparov is an excelent chess player!
He and Khodorkovsky are my go to when checking what goes on presently. He speaks fluent english should be interviewed more often to spread the information. Khodorkovsky needs to publish his video's with english subtitles.
Garry is fabulous.
This man is great tactician, he read and knows their move
Sounds like "Hunger Games" is one of the most insightful fresh comments I've heard about the evil empire.
Amazing person! Great interview!
Slava and victory for Ukraine✌️
Slava to Ukraine from Croatia
He can still get a winning position against top GM even toady only to lose in time.
That's how good he is.
It must be terribly painful for Garry Kasparov to see how the leadership in his native Russia has wasted so many young 'Garry Kasprov's'---young guys like him--- who could make something of their lives. The thing that makes me angry about Putin's war---as Chancelor Scholz calls it---is how he has been willing to sacrifice so many, many young Russians by sending them into battle under-equiped and poorly trained. That in itself should be a war crime...
Yeah, he should have started by arming and training rebels in the country for a coup THEN invaded calling it something fancy like War on Terror.
Wonderful person!
Great talk. I loved it.
The goat!
Lets have Kasparov as the next president of Russia! He is highly qualified and perfectly suitable. A man of dignity and international respect. A bridge over troubled water!
Unfortunatelly the zombified majority of russians are million miles away from understanding the truths Kasparov stand for
I think he was right about AI.
Mr Kasparov is a very reasonable human being
Garry Kasparov, you are a fine human being!!!
We need Garry to be the next Leader of free Russia
Problem is these reporters aren't as studied as subjects so interviews aren't as rich as could be but good interview nonetheless. Her closest reference is the movie Hunger Games. She might read some or all those book titles mentioned in this interview on her next holiday.
Gary Kasparov is bang on the money here. The West must stand up to Russia. If anyone understands strategy it’s Kasparov. Respect!
This is what intelligence sounds like.
Great insight!
Brave man.
Respect, Mr. Kasparov
Respect in chess
I am so in love with Mr. Kasparov.
He is brilliant.
Last year in autumn he said that Russia will be kicked out from Ukraine by spring
Ukraine is winning while they are losing their skilled, experienced soldiers. Insane
They don't have any skilled, experienced soldiers. They're a collection of rabble
Freedom has a cost and so does slavery. Also insane.
With cost of “black gold” at 15-23 dollars per barrel, the USSR economy collapsed, and the sovok itself collapsed, and the "golden" horde ("russia") budget can only be fulfilled only with oil price at $ 42.4 and higher
With Putin you need a sledge hammer.
We need all sane Russians who want to live in a democracy and in freedom to keep fighting and take their country back from Dictator Putin.
Democracy is cringe.
