Cyberpunk 2077 - Johnny Silverhand Disses Morgan Blackhand

  • Johnny Silverhand was a living legend who waged all-out war against all corporate influence. That said, he was hardly the only legend the 2020 era. Another - arguably more famous - NC legend Morgan Blackhand just didn't share the rockerboy's blinding hatred for all things corpo-powered. Instead, the Solo of Fortune took a different route. Selling his skills as the world's greatest mercenary and best solo to the Militech Corporation as a full-time "company man."
    This seemed so minor that I wasn't sure I'd even upload it. Still, I already made the video, so I figured there's really no harm. It could be I'm just imagining things on my end, but I thought this moment was pure gold. If you're a fan of the original TTRPG books at all, you might have caught this little dig too. Never Fade Away takes place during Cyberpunk 2013. Johnny, Rogue, and Santiago have been in the Cyberpunk series since the beginning. As far as I know, Morgan Blackhand wasn't introduced until Cyberpunk 2020, and he took a very different route than the gang that raided Arasaka Tower.

    The main reason why Johnny disses Morgan was that he sold out to Militech... just as Smasher sold out to Arasaka.

      If there's a trope anywhere about trying to embody pragmatism, Morgan Blackhand definitely fits that trope. Blackhand always did whatever works best and whatever benefits him regardless of hang-ups or illusions to those things.
      He even laughs at the idea of Solos who walk around carrying huge guns and draw attention to themselves just to look cool in the books. Even though, ironically, almost every single drawing of Morgan Blackhand shows him dressed in the largest trench coat known to man and usually carrying a large gun.

    • @JuergenGDB
      @JuergenGDB 2 года назад +42

      @@EyeofCenter Well Morgan was known for his SMG built into I believe his left or Right arm... hence Blackhand. He usually carried another SMG and a Blade... as the RPG pen and paper goes. He was well versed in Stealth and Close Quarters. Again RPG paper. he could get in and out and his non ARM SMG was Silenced.

      @@JuergenGDB Yeah. I remember Blackhand's character sheet from one of the 2020 books. True. They were friends. But whether he intended to or not, he did end up deriding Blackhand - and every merc who joins a corporation. He's the most famous for joining up with Militech and making a big name for himself (even more than characters like Boa Boa, I mean).

      I personally always took this as more of a jab at just how easy it was to get guys like Shaitan, not as much of a diss on Blackhand considering he was already in on the op anyways. he didn't need extra convincing either way. Shaitan on the other hand was known as being the kind of merc that would literally drop everything and come on the job if you mention 'Fuck Arasaka'. it isn't stated outright but it is alluded that a female member of his family was perhaps violated by a high ranking member of Arasaka @@EyeofCenter

    This video did way better than I thought it would. Lots of people seem to be searching "Morgan Blackhand" or "Morgan Blackhand Cyberpunk 2077." I remember reading that CDPR confirmed Mike Pondsmith told them what happens to Blackhand and gave them ideas on how to use him in 77. There's a good chance he'll show up in one of the DLC. Honestly, I can't help imagining Blackhand blasting a hole in the ceiling and dropping in while V is in the middle of a gun fight somewhere. I also wouldn't be surprised if he's been hiding up in space somewhere for the past few decades. Then again, there may or may not be some connection between Blackhand and Mr. Blue Eyes. Whatever the case, here's hoping CDPR finds an interesting way to introduce him into the game.

      @@Dogtles It's been implied that Blackhand won that fight. The game might be broken as hell in terms of combat, but I think Smasher was presented somewhat accurately. His character sheet in the TTRPG books show he was never really a great fighter/Solo. His main strength was always his modified FBC giving him insanely high Attributes.

    • @Keesidia
      @Keesidia 10 месяцев назад +1

    • @EyeofCenter
      @EyeofCenter  10 месяцев назад +2

      @@KeesidiaThe way it was described in Firestorm, they weren't supposed to be fighting hand-to-hand. They were shooting at each other the entire time they were on the roof. And then they jumped at each other across the gap between the two sides of the tower. It was essentially that scene from the Matrix where Trinity and the Agent are shooting at each other the entire time they're falling to their deaths.
      We know Smasher survived, but both CDPR and R. Talsorian have both confirmed Blackhand is still alive. It's obviously open to interpretation, but looking at the way everything was described, I don't think there's any way for Blackhand to survive unless he disabled Smasher while they were falling. There's no way he just magically avoided all of Smasher's bullets and just somehow broke his fall and walked away while Smasher was actively focused on killing him the entire way down.
      If you're interested, I went on a whole autistic rant about this way back when. The sound editing and recording I did was terrible, so I'll probably redo the whole thing at some point though: ruclips.net/video/anxfA1wD3UU/видео.html

      Yeah. Johnny was really using Militech for his own ends. But if we really think about it, Blackhand kind of (maybe inadvertently) ended up screwing Rogue and Johnny over completely by involving them in the Militech strike. 2077 says that Militech denied any involvement in the incident and that the entire country believes it was a terrorist attack carried out by anti-corporate wackjobs. Johnny is remembered as a terrorist who nearly burned Night City down while Rogue went into hiding and ended up forced to work for Arasaka for the next several decades.

      I've always thought it was very subtly hinted that the real reason Arasaka is pushing "Secure Your Soul" at all is so that once the richest and most powerful people in the world are in Mikoshi, they could try and alter their minds however they want. By the story, Arasaka has always been a cover for Saburo Arasaka's dreams of subjugating the world under Japanese rule. Given enough time with Mikoshi, they might actually just be able to do that.

V is definitely one of the best Edgerunners in the world after the game - and the game tells us he/she is the current generation version of Blackhand. But Blackhand was a much more powerful character in the books.
      FIrst, it's been heavily implied that Blackhand beat Smasher the first time they fought. It's implied that when the two of them fell through the roof of the tower, Blackhand managed to destroy Smasher's cyborg body and escape before the tower completely collapsed.
      Second, even the most overpowered Level 50 V a player can build in this game can only max out so many attributes. That means V can only max out so many skills. But if you look at Blackhand's character sheet in the books, he has so many Attributes maxed and so many skills maxed that I don't think V would be able to compete with him.
