  • The Sunday Changing of the Guard ceremony in Athens, Greece is a must-see for any tourist visiting the city. Known as the "Parade of the Evzones," this elaborate and ceremonial event involves a large number of guards, known as Evzones, and includes a marching band.
It takes place at 11am on Sundays, as well as on national holidays, in front of the Greek Parliament building at Syntagma Square. The guards are dressed in traditional Greek costumes, including the famous fustanellas kilt with the 400 pleats, and perform a series of intricate marching manoeuvres.
To fully experience the Changing of the Guard ceremony, at Syntagma Square, we recommend arriving at Syntagma Square early to get a good viewing spot. It is also important to dress appropriately, as the ceremony takes place rain or shine. Finally, be respectful of the ceremony and avoid taking photos or making noise while the guards are on duty.
In addition to the Changing of the Guard ceremony, there are several other top places to visit in Athens on a day trip. These include the Acropolis, the Parthenon, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, and the Agora (we will show you these in other videos tagged below). Each of these ancient sites offers a unique glimpse into the history and culture of Greece, and are a must-see for any visitor to the city.
