A 124gr projectile at 1100fps has 333 ft-lbs of muzzle energy; a 55gr projectile at 1712fps has 358 ft-lbs, a gain of 7.5%. Is that, as the immortal Mr. Harrell says, enough difference to make a difference? And is it worth the tradeoff in concealability vs. a 9mm handgun? You be the judge.

I use an adjustable gas block on mine. I built mine using the KAK 4.75" barrel and I have had zero malfunctions. I am using the original Pantheon Arms short buffer tube (Kentri) systems and it all works fine. I turn down the gas until it fails to cycle and then gradually turn it up (I use only green tips) until it cycles reliably. I'm using a Faxon BCG

    • @pewpewtactical

@@pewpewtactical Awesome! That's good that it's shooting reliably now. My primary reasons for using the adjustable block was so that I could turn down the pressure to prevent hammering the buffer assembly. The pressures of the gas exiting that close to the chamber has to be substantially higher than even out of a short/7.5" pistol gas tube. I want it down to rifle or carbine pressures. If that makes sense.

For me, the real comparison is between this and a 9mm handgun. I would think of it as like a step up from a handgun into the PDW role than can punch through any soft armor and prioritizing max concealibility over even a 10" AR. It definitely niche, kinda like a MP5k. Additional performance out of a 5.56 over 9mm with the tradeoff of TONS of concussion. Perhaps would be even better with a suppressor that doesn't have barrel length restriction.

Velocity is the one and only factor that makes a 55 gr .223 pill effective. I think people are genuinely ignorant to how much velocity they're losing out of a barrel this tiny.
The standard cope is that even though the velocity has been reduced to pea-shooter level, it's perfectly fine because you're at close range and indoors. So why not use 22 WMR? These ultra tiny 5.56 guns are a recipe for unburnt powder, obscene muzzle flash and deafening noise levels.
