  • Canyoneering Leprechaun Canyon, Left Fork - North Wash, Utah
Day 2, Canyon #1. I've done this one before. It was actually one of my first canyons. This thing is one that you take people through to wow them in the North Wash. It was easier than I remember. Probably not because Leprechaun Canyon changed; I just have more experience this go around. But although it was easier, it was also more fun and more beautiful than I remembered.
Leprechaun has three entries: Left, Middle and Right fork. Personally, I've only done Left Fork. Middle is supposed to be more difficult and Right easier, but all three converge before an impressive section of VERY narrow canyon. Just before the fun runs out in the narrows, the canyon opens up slightly for the well known section pictured on the thumbnail of this video. A short walk through one more high and beautiful section and you're back at the wash you took in on the approach.
The North Wash is great for canyoneers of all skill levels. And Leprechaun Canyon is one of those places you take people to make them want to get into canyoneering. It was great to be back.

Has to be one of more outrageously convoluted , distorted, messed up configurations of sandstone you have shown yet. Wowx100 and thanks

This place is claustrophobia-inducing. I kinda miss it though.

Great video man. However I'd like to request more screen time, as specified in my SAG contract

At least you stayed dry in this one except for sweating I guess. Amazing how narrow it gets. Not a place for a claustrophobic person.

Definitely not. In one spot you can't even turn your head because your helmet hits the sides.

@@JerryArizona I haven’t seen a clip of it, but there’s one called Little Bull slot canyon that’s off of Robbers Roost canyon that I saw a clip of elsewhere that’s almost all like that. It’s sure an amazing bit of country in that region.

Great video, good editing and music. We are headed here in a few days for the first time, any tips on making sure we get into the correct fork? looking to do left fork as well.

I've been there before, which helped. But for canyons that don't really have landmarks - like the North Wash canyons - I tell my canyoneering partners to independently search beta online and then we compare notes to make sure there are no discrepancies. For Leprechaun left fork, I show the drop in point around 38.03472, -110.528861, but don't take my word for it; use that to cross check your research online. (Edit - I also use Gaia on my iPhone for a GPS.)

Do you need permits to do this?

    • @JerryArizona

Nope. Just show up and go. You can canyoneer from the top down, or hike partially from the bottom up to the last rappel (if you don't have gear/experience canyoneering).
