I am 57 years old. I have been reading sword and sorcery style books. Mercedes lackey, Elizabeth moon, Andre Norton, Raymond e feist, Tolkien, Asimov's, bradbury, eddings. This book is very well written. This world is well created, with no inconsistent magic use. Well developed characters. We learn not just what the characters do, we have their backgrounds to understand their motivation. I cannot believe you have over 30 books and I have never heard of you. Your books are definitely better than the average fantasy fiction books. They are definitely better than the books in the middle of quality and are in the top group of books. Not up to Tolkien, but as you write more and more, I wouldn't be surprised if you enter the top tier of this genre.

Paperback and hardcover editions are available on Amazon. If you'd like signed copies they'll be available during the Kickstarter I'm running in January.
If you'd like me add set for you to my Kickstarter order, you can email me at james@jamesewisher.com I'll need your name, shipping address, and whether you'd like paperback or hardcover copies. Once I have that information, I'll send you a PayPal invoice. When the books arrive, I'll sign them and ship them to you. It will probably be around the start of March give or take.
Listening to this series over again, just as good as the first time! This is such a gem when it comes to fantasy audiobooks on RUclips. It’s a very good listen for being free. The pacing of the story is much better than some litrpgs I’ve been listening to, most either go to fast or stagnate to long, this hits a good balance of character progression in parrellel with cultivation
I stumbled upon your books by chance while brownies for something to listen to while work. I must say what a lucky day, I am hooked. Thank you so much for this masterpiece, I can't wait to listen to the rest of the books. I am truly thankful, you made my day 🥺💓
Thank you so much James for this Great story 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 You are truly an excellent weaver of tales! And with two of the most excellent narrators to squeeze out every bit of the adventure and the characters, bringing all of us listeners right into the world of this tale.👍😊
I can't believe how good this book is and that I hadn't heard of it before. I will make sure to spread this book to all who can read. Thank you so much for sharing this world you have created, and all the increasingly, incredibly, complex characters it contains.
That's very kind of you to say. Glad to hear you're enjoying the story. Spreading the word is much appreciated as it's the best way I've found to gather new readers.
Great author! Otto is such a good main character. He is inquisitive, confident in his abilities, level headed, and not at all like your generic dumb protagonist.
Book one complete and ... Quickly has become an instant fixation. Thank you for having this fine work in a place for everyone to enjoy. At first i took Otto for the posh son of royalty that but how quickly my views changed. A lot of small character flaws that i can relate to early on, the fixation of a secret rising of power, and on top of all that, a very intriguing political backline thus all this leaving wonder for the unknown in a world of many mysteries. James sir you are a legend, cannot wait to finish the series and check out some more of your work, I'm hooked!
I did not expect this book to be so good honestly I have a hard time finding good books and it’s been so long since I’ve read something new I’m at Disney with my family rn and I decided I wanted to try to find something good while I’m waiting in these long ass lines and i some how stumbled upon this I gotta say man im loving it good job dude
Wow what does that say about Disneyland that you paid God knows what to go there and then you're still on your phone on RUclips because the lines are so atrociously long
The way he dealt with everything and tied it together was great. Altho directing the things at the end leaves an opening imo. I didnt like the prince at first, still dont think much of him so we will see how he plays out. Thanks for putting this here to listen too!
Thank you so very, very much. I love your book so much and you have a talent for writing and I am so appreciative of this gift and that you share it with us will bring you many blessings. Keep up the good work!
I cant stress enough how good this book is. The final line he says to a certain female character at the end is a cold one, never expected this from a fricking MC. The spell system is very well explained, the world buidling is fantastic, im rotting for my boy Otto!
Fantastic listen, thanks for sharing, looking forward to continuing the adventure with Otto. Amazing how well written this story is and progression is at a nice pace.
This is awesome. Otto is what every mage protagonist should be. So Satisfying. I love the progression, perfectly paced, and so easy to listen to. Just plain awesome.
This is a great book! I love how the perspective jumps between the characters progressing the story as it does so. Very inspiring process of moving through the story.
I've read most of the Soul Bound Saga, and all of the Aegis of Merlin. Comparatively, this is your best work. WARNING : spoilers ahead! I think the reason for this story's high level of success is the character of Otto. The key difference between him and your other stories main characters is that Otto is active, where as characters like Conryu and Joran are passive. What I mean by this is that Otto drives the story. The big events happen because of him. He isn't just reacting to things, he is actively doing stuff. All of Conryu's actions are a reaction to things happening. If he is left alone, nothing interesting would really happen, since he himself just wants a peaceful and calm life. That's not a bad character trait in real life. In a story, however, it just comes across as boring. The same thing applies with Joran, though to a lesser degree (I might be wrong, I haven't finished the series). Active characters are much more compelling. Then there is the question of consistency. I think a character is well thought out if their beliefs and opinions are consistent with their actions (unless a character trait of theirs is to be inconsistent, that is). Otto has a single goal, and he will do anything to accomplish it. And he does some really bad things, but that is consistent with his character. And the story doesn't shy away from showing how bad Otto can be. He is not a hero. He doesn't care about the well-being of the people unless it helps or hinders his goal. He is power-hungry and brutal. Yet the readers are under no illusions that he isn't. Joran on the other hand, is opportunistic and selfish. He supports and vehemently defends a slavery-based society, simply because he stands to gain from its continued existence, and stands to lose from its downfall. Yet he is presented as a good guy. He is the hero of the story. That depiction seems unearned. It's like the story is shying away from openly admitting that he is not a good guy. Both the Soul Bound Saga, and the Aegis of Merlin are good stories, with good world-building and interesting side character's but man do I dislike Conryu and Joran. I found myself rooting against them for most of the time reading, which is kind of funny XD. Otto was a breath of fresh air. He was consistent and drove the story forward. Thanks for reading :) ps. I forgot to mention that, while I am putting this comment here on the first audiobook of the portal wars saga, I have read the whole thing
My thoughts exactly lmao. Although I don't think Otto is the only reason for the high success, I think he is the main. The lore of the Arcane Lords, and other parts of the world building were just great. Happy new years !!!

Been going thru the different books/series you've created. Best author of the entire genre ive found so far. Been listening at work at the rate of a book a day. Makes my day go by like a dream. Thank you a ton for posting these!
I don’t understand why the dowry of 10,000 goes to the father, instead of the son, I mean he’s the groom. He should demand at least half. Obviously his father would be furious at him, still the money does belong to him. Yet another magnificent book James. You really are a gifted writer, as well as an extremely disciplined, hardworking one. Although I envy your ability to create fantastic worlds, I have no idea how you force yourself to work so very hard, I would never be capable of such dedication!
This book is sooo good. Just the way I like my protagonists. Too far gone for heaven, but not far enough for hell. Stumbled on to your channel at work and that was prob a terrible mistake. LOL. Really annoyed that everyone expects me to do work while at work. I just want to sit quietly and engross myself in the story. Keep the writing coming!!!!
I tried Malizan book of the fallen and it was shit. I tried wheel of time, and it was shit. I tried misborn and it was shit. I even tried name of the wind and to my absolute Suprise it was shit. This Portal wars thing lacks everything that make those books so terrible, the magic is simple and versatile not overcomplicated to the point of utter uselessness, the descriptions are good while not being overly wordy like the other authors think makes a good story. This is a good story if only because it gets to the point and doesn't try to redefine magic by making it stupid. Magic is overpowered and it should be and the attempts by authors to sidestep this only ever seem to serve in making the story terrible, Descriptions can be good while not over describing every last detail. This so far is a good story.
I enjoyed this a lot! The protagonist is amazing. It's great to see how the power corrupts him. I've been looking for a book in which the main character has such loose morales and I like how the author got him there.
Just finished the first book and I am hooked, I am looking forward to see how Otto develops since his development in the first book was amazing to follow. On to the next! Thank you for making this abailable here!
this book has been my bedtime story for sometime now. some struggling nights it just puts me to sleep while other times im fighting to stay awake so i can know the progression of the story! it has good plots and interesting characters, im invested!!
I think it it safe to say that this is my favourite fantasy book so far. You have amazing talent and your storytelling is just as good. I thank you for this master piece of a book and i can't wait for more!
I'm enjoying this... the protagonist is not the clichéd wide eyed boy or too cynical and annoying .. he wants to be different... but doesn't totally reject his role , difficult Ballance to get right , plus there's no urban fantasy cringe , I'm sick of that
I didn't know what to expect, I simply happened onto your channel. This has been a wonderful surprise. The way you use description puts me right in the world you created. Amazing job, I'm hooked.
I found this book by accident. I liked the cover so decided to give it a listen. I liked how he found out about the baby.. The way made it seem realistic and what surprised me most even 35 chapters through not much actioned happen but you held my interest... Great writing

Paperback and hardcover editions are available on Amazon. If you'd like signed copies they'll be available during the Kickstarter I'm running in January.
@@JamesEWisherbooks Where can I purchase signed copies of my own? I went to your website and I didn't find any information there.
If you'd like me add set for you to my Kickstarter order, you can email me at james@jamesewisher.com
I'll need your name, shipping address, and whether you'd like paperback or hardcover copies. Once I have that information, I'll send you a PayPal invoice. When the books arrive, I'll sign them and ship them to you. It will probably be around the start of March give or take.
@@JamesEWisherbooks I will do that right now. 😁
Glad you're enjoying the second time through.
I stumbled upon your books by chance while brownies for something to listen to while work. I must say what a lucky day, I am hooked. Thank you so much for this masterpiece, I can't wait to listen to the rest of the books. I am truly thankful, you made my day 🥺💓
Glad you're enjoying the story. Thanks for checking it out.
Thank you so much James for this Great story 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 You are truly an excellent weaver of tales!
And with two of the most excellent narrators to squeeze out every bit of the adventure and the characters, bringing all of us listeners right into the world of this tale.👍😊
Glad you enjoyed it.
I thought I was tripping, but the eyes in the background really are moving. Great Story, I'm looking forward to another!
Same lol
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it.
@@JamesEWisherbooks I really did. Solid writing, Sir.
Lol...mee too!
Yep this was a great book, I can’t wait for the next
I am really enjoying this novel. It’s not cliche or cheesy. This is a great find. The algorithm worked this week.
All hail the algorithm.
I loved this book every minute of it. This book is exactly what I was looking for from a fantasy novel
Been listening for 6 hours straight bro I love Master Keronin
Book one complete and ... Quickly has become an instant fixation. Thank you for having this fine work in a place for everyone to enjoy. At first i took Otto for the posh son of royalty that but how quickly my views changed. A lot of small character flaws that i can relate to early on, the fixation of a secret rising of power, and on top of all that, a very intriguing political backline thus all this leaving wonder for the unknown in a world of many mysteries. James sir you are a legend, cannot wait to finish the series and check out some more of your work, I'm hooked!
Since I exhausted pretty much all the decently narrated scifi audiobooks, I guess I can give fantasy a try. Thank you for releasing this.
You're welcome, hope you enjoy it.
This is the best audio book I've every listened to
Such a breath of fresh air, well done good Sir, you are a true story teller.
Glad you enjoyed it.
This book is absolutely amazing, i can't believe the rollercoaster I was on when I started it and now i know that I need so much more.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Wow what does that say about Disneyland that you paid God knows what to go there and then you're still on your phone on RUclips because the lines are so atrociously long
@@td4190 yeah it’s ridiculous waited almost 2 hours in one of the lines
The way he dealt with everything and tied it together was great. Altho directing the things at the end leaves an opening imo. I didnt like the prince at first, still dont think much of him so we will see how he plays out. Thanks for putting this here to listen too!
You're welcome, hope you enjoy the rest of the books.
Thank you so very, very much. I love your book so much and you have a talent for writing and I am so appreciative of this gift and that you share it with us will bring you many blessings. Keep up the good work!
You're welcome Linda. I'm glad you're enjoying my stories.
This is one of the best books I've listened to in a while. It's absolutely amazing.
Thanks for the kind words.
This is awesome. Otto is what every mage protagonist should be. So Satisfying. I love the progression, perfectly paced, and so easy to listen to. Just plain awesome.
Glad you're enjoying the story.
This is a great book! I love how the perspective jumps between the characters progressing the story as it does so. Very inspiring process of moving through the story.
Glad you enjoyed it.
1 hour in and throughly enjoying this tale. Thank you.
You're welcome.
Thanks for reading :)
ps.
This definitely needs a TV series and movie
That would be amazing, assuming they did it right.
@@JamesEWisherbooks yeah definitely wouldn't want another Aragon 😂
@@JamesEWisherbooks and I use Aragon because of the way you share the story from different perspectives similar to what I felt that series did. And I absolutely loved the series so Its a complement 100%
I am sooooo glad I found this audio book. I've never heard of it before so it was quite the surprised about how invested I've become. I'm most definitely going to finish all of them and if they are all this good I may buy them too.
Glad you're enjoying the series.
Started listening at the beginning of my shift and gave it a like almost an hour into it now I am unable to stop myself from listening to the entire series. Thank you for sharing your book!
You're welcome. Glad you're enjoying it.
I just found GOLD ! THANK YOU FOR CREATING THIS . I LOVE IT .
I never expected Otto’s actions in the closing moments. An amazing story. Wonderfully told, an expertly crafted build. Well done, sir. Very well done. I can’t wait for the second book!
Thanks for the kind words. Hope you enjoy book 2.
I love this. Thank you. Have gone through many auto books. Happy I found another worth my time. Really hope he doesn't fall for his "wife's" trick. He deserves better
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for listening.
Best ending ever!!!
Thank you, for your hard work in writing this fantastic story
So glad i found this channel, more audios to listen to at work and it’s from the author himself
Thanks for listening.
Two hours in and I’m impressed. Good story and character development.
I’m not sure if you are self publishing your old work or previously published books, but thanks. This is much better than normal self published books and indie scripts I’ve “read.”
Glad you're enjoying the story.
Ditto here. Two hours in and digging this very much
This is amazing I wasn't expecting much after the first few minutes but once we reached the tower I new I found something great
Just found this series and thoroughly enjoyed this book. I couldn't stop listening to it. Can't wait to get started on the 2nd! Great work Sir! You have a new fan!
Welcome, glad to hear you're enjoying the story.
I loved your book! Starting the next in the series, right now. Thank you for uploading your hard work, and I hope you have more to come.
Glad to hear it. Thanks for listening.
This was awesome!!
I’ve been scouring everywhere to look for story like this.
Been going thru the different books/series you've created. Best author of the entire genre ive found so far. Been listening at work at the rate of a book a day. Makes my day go by like a dream. Thank you a ton for posting these!
You're welcome. Glad you're enjoying them.
On chapter 19 and loving this journey. Thank you so very much
You're welcome. Glad you're enjoying it.
I’m almost through book one! So so good! This week will fly by listening to the rest
Glad you're enjoying it.
Like so many I just happened upon this story and started listening after a drink and gummy😂🎁
Glad to hear you're enjoying the story
Well said.....👏
Thank you for the upload! I have tried other books, this is by far the best I’ve heard in a long time! Can’t wait for more…
Awesome, glad you're enjoying the series.
Magic is overpowered and it should be and the attempts by authors to sidestep this only ever seem to serve in making the story terrible,
Descriptions can be good while not over describing every last detail.
This so far is a good story.
Glad to hear you're enjoying the story.
I enjoyed this a lot! The protagonist is amazing. It's great to see how the power corrupts him. I've been looking for a book in which the main character has such loose morales and I like how the author got him there.
Do he find out if the baby not his
Just finished the first book and I am hooked, I am looking forward to see how Otto develops since his development in the first book was amazing to follow. On to the next! Thank you for making this abailable here!
You're welcome. Glad you're enjoying it.
I'm very impressed by your plot and writing style
Thank you.
I do not typically listen to books more than once, but my love of this series has moved me on that.
this book has been my bedtime story for sometime now. some struggling nights it just puts me to sleep while other times im fighting to stay awake so i can know the progression of the story! it has good plots and interesting characters, im invested!!
This is one of the best channels I have found on RUclips now on to the next one.
Thank you very much! Took every opportunity I could find to finish the story. Refreshing character of a hero!
Glad you liked it. Thanks for listening.
I think it it safe to say that this is my favourite fantasy book so far. You have amazing talent and your storytelling is just as good. I thank you for this master piece of a book and i can't wait for more!
Thanks for the kind words.
I'm enjoying this... the protagonist is not the clichéd wide eyed boy or too cynical and annoying .. he wants to be different... but doesn't totally reject his role , difficult Ballance to get right , plus there's no urban fantasy cringe , I'm sick of that
Tbh urban fantasy is either great or terrible not much imbetween
What you don't like 6,000-year-old beings who order Starbucks by day and mutilate gods and Demons by night LOL
Here here! I 87th that statement.
Exactly
Agreed
I didn't know what to expect, I simply happened onto your channel. This has been a wonderful surprise. The way you use description puts me right in the world you created. Amazing job, I'm hooked.
Thanks very much for giving my work a try.
I found this book by accident. I liked the cover so decided to give it a listen. I liked how he found out about the baby.. The way made it seem realistic and what surprised me most even 35 chapters through not much actioned happen but you held my interest... Great writing
Love this book, 6h plus in and I already am anticipating book 2!!!! Thank you for posting! London locked in!
Stumbled upon the soul bound books a week ago finished listening to all of them so decided to give this series a try and man what a start love the revenge at the end of this one started book 2 can’t wait to see how all this shakes out
I really enjoyed listening to this audiobook, the story is amazing. I’ve recently started to find audiobooks to listen to while I draw and I’m glad this was the first one I found ✨👍
Glad to hear it.
Well done! Totally engrossed and just past half way. Can’t wait for a sequel.
What a book. Wasn’t expecting it to be this good.
The author at the beginning was oddly sweet. This book looks interesting, excited to listen
I'll take oddly sweet over horribly nervous any day. : ) Thanks for giving my book a chance.
Oh man I am so glad I stumbled into this. The main character's personality is so refreshing; can't wait to listen to the rest of the saga.
Otto is definitely something.
And I agree. Very good writing. Has a great flow and is very accessible.
I’ve bought and read every book from this series and others from this author finding these audio books free on RUclips oh boy I’m excited to go back and start again ❤
That's exactly what an author likes to hear. Thanks.
Hour into this and I'm hooked. Definitely going to look for hard copies by this author.
The first two books are available in Hardcover on Amazon and I'm working on getting the rest ready to upload.
I'm so happy that I found this master peace, it is helping me a lot to pratice my listening
Like most have said, this just popped up and I took a chance on it and I'm so happy. Thank you for posting your work and cant wait to get to the bookstore to get physical copies.
I appreciate your support, but you should know that most bookstores won't carry books by indie authors like myself. You can find them on Amazon and I'll be adding physical copies to my author store over the next couple months. If you'd like signed copies, you can contact me through my website's contact form and we can make arrangements for that.
@@JamesEWisherbooks thanks for the info. Definitely will be ordering books.
Having just finished the first book, I found it a brilliantly paced story and cannot wait to continue the series.
Glad you enjoyed it.
O my goodness 😍! I haven't listened to a book this good in a long time. How on earth haven't I heard of this book before now!!🎉❤
The book is incredible, i love it OMG. i'm glad i chose this as my first audio fantasy book XD
Glad you like it.
