As a black man, I can definitely feel you on this Sara. I was diagnosed with prostate cancer several years ago and after chemo, surgery, and radiation, I was able to beat it. Like breast cancer for women of color, men of color (black men in particular) have a higher risk for developing prostate cancer than others so although our battles are occurring on different fronts, we all go through this together. Ladies, as Sara said, get checked! Men, get checked! More power to you Sara and may God keep you safe and strong! ❤
Actually, doctors now say, if a man lives long enough he'll get prostate cancer. And for most, if advances so slowly, it doesn't kill them - old age or some other deadly thing does. That said, minorities are more likely to get it sooner & have the more aggressive type. Early detection is critical. At the least so doctors can figure out which type & if it's metastasized. A family member had symptoms which he ignored until he couldn't. Never liked going to the doctor. When he was diagnosed, he was stage 4. His doctor has little hope, saying if he'd come in 4 yrs earlier, he'd have had a chance. He got a little lucky. New stem cell & specific DNA treatments looked promising. He lived another 2 1/2 yrs, mostly with difficulty. That doesn't seem much but at diagnosis, he was told he might only have weeks if the treatments didn't work for him. Get screened young. Get screenings as your doctor recommends. The life you save may be your own.

Sending prayers for you. I was dx’d with breast cancer in June of ‘22. I was 47. Only one other person in my family had breast cancer before. I felt it in my soul when you said it was hard to say those words. I had a bilateral mastectomy in July of ‘22. I’m doing well physically but mentally, I struggle. My cancer was a stage 1 grade A cancer. What many don’t realize is that 30% of women with an early caught breast cancer will still end up with metastatic breast cancer within 10 years. It’s absolutely terrifying. I do my best to not let my fears consume me but some days are harder than others. I pray your treatments do their job and that you are cancer free soon! God bless!

She cherished every moment in life and what she could extract from it. It was the hardest years of my life. But this last year check up, after 18 years, I no longer have tumors in my neck! I live with my cancer, and I am ok with that, as long as I am alive! My mom caught a malignant lump during a self exam more than 50 years ago. With early treatment, she lived another 50, and died recently at age 101. I was so blessed to have all those decades with her. Just got my annual mammogram.
Listen to Sara! And get and do those screenings!

Why is that some beat the breast cancer and live 50 years and some pass within a few years?
Wow! Amazing! I’m glad she got to live so long. It’s an achievement for anyone, but surviving probably helps one have a greater appreciation for life and health.
@@jaypalnitkar4400because some have stage 4 and it may already be too late. Some beat it and it comes back and you can’t fight it again. Some even have it multiple times… very sad. Praying for everyone out there dealing with cancer.

I survived Ovarian cancer and my sister was declared cancer free just yesterday, she had stage 4 breast cancer. Every single morning I get thought the chaos by listening/watching Sara. Her voice brings such a sense of calm. I am praying for your speedy recovery Sara. I missed this announcement 2 months ago... Certainly happened during school drop off or a made dash to the grocery store. CNN stays on in my house! Absolutely praying for you Sara. You displayed so much grace and strength with your announcement. I know so many people love you as much as me. I surprised myself how I cried like a baby watching this.

I'm with you, sister. Both my sister and I were diagnosed with breast cancer 23 years ago and we are still alive and kicking. We are in our '70s. I learned a lot about letting things go when I had cancer. I also learned to bask in all the good things that are happening to me everyday and let the worries just slip away. Sending prayers for you. I was dx’d with breast cancer in June of ‘22. I was 47. Only one other person in my family had breast cancer before. I felt it in my soul when you said it was hard to say those words. I had a bilateral mastectomy in July of ‘22. I’m doing well physically but mentally, I struggle. My cancer was a stage 1 grade A cancer. What many don’t realize is that 30% of women with an early caught breast cancer will still end up with metastatic breast cancer within 10 years. It’s absolutely terrifying. I do my best to not let my fears consume me but some days are harder than others. I pray your treatments do their job and that you are cancer free soon! God bless!

Such is life...my wife went through breast cancer, then it spread to her brain, then to her lungs. Not once did she feel pity for herself. She cherished every moment in life and what she could extract from it. She smiled to the end loving everyone with her precious smiles and letting everyone know of her gratitude for them being in her life. It wasn't about her, but those she would leave behind. She lived a warrior's life. I hope you can do the same.

I'm a black woman. I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer when I was 23 years old and then got a totally different kind of breast cancer at 29 (that one was stage 2). I turn 46 tomorrow. you got this sara! there is LIFE after breast cancer! sending you lots of love and strength!

Those words brought me to tears because I too can relate. 18 yrs ago I was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer that metastasis to my lungs when I was 3 months pregnant with my 2nd child. It was the hardest years of my life. But this last year check up, after 18 years, I no longer have tumors in my neck! I live with my cancer, and I am ok with that, as long as I am alive! Your message will be heard by millions of women and men and that message will save someone's life. So thank you, for sharing your diagnosis. You fight like hell!
