I used Tony Buzan’s Mind-mapping techniques to summarise my notes for exam purposes at school and at university - it is a method similar to what you are doing but also serves as a mnemonic aid for remembering lots of information. Later on I worked in computers and business and I also used mind-mapping when interviewing users about their systems and process requirements and to clarify my thoughts, Later in life, I started writing creatively and I still use Mind-mapping to work out the initial ideas for short stories and poems. I found though, that when people are not visual learners, or are very linear thinkers, they find it a very cumbersome method.
It's true that people who are not visual learners or linear thinkers can find it cumbersome to use. However, they can still benefit and see value from consuming information that's portrayed visually. Just because information visually displayed can be analyzed and accessed faster than any other form of communication. I'm not saying we need drawings everywhere. Just organizing information with certain formats can tell a story visually, and that helps us humans understand information better. @philnasmith9755
I almost got in trouble, too. The funny thing is, because I knew I was going to get called out, I would listen more intently. When the teacher said "hey you, the one who's drawing. What are your thoughts on this topic?" I would immediately answer correctly. At some point, they stopped bothering. They knew I was paying attention even if my head was down as I drew 😎
Yes indeed, taking notes in a dynamic way can help you memorize and save info. In a better way!!
Just what I needed to hear today. Like the child whose thoughts were congested and flowed not like butter, I feel I truly benefit from sketch noting.
Thank you. I’m going to send this to my son and my daughter in law . I believe it will help them with teaching my grandkids.
This is so great!! I have believed this for so many years and you are living it! amazing.
This has been so useful and I really appreciate Sherrill's take on this.
