    Great video! I think you mean a caster can spend a "strike" and not Karma at 7:27, basically they can spellburn. Though I could be wrong.

    • @DMTalesTTRPG

      YES! Thank you!
      Karma specifically CAN’T be used to alter spell or miracle rolls, though you can you your hero die. And I didn’t mention spell burn at all, that’s a big miss from me.

    My friend and I really wanna make a quick TTRPG game based on a zombie apocalypse. Perhaps in modern times. I suggested EZD6 to him and I’m hoping I can wrap my head around the system to make it a reality. Thanks for making this video.

    This looks like a lot of fun. I’m really becoming drawn to games that only use d6 instead of a bunch of dice. Though having a handful of math rocks is still pretty fun.

    • @DMTalesTTRPG
      @DMTalesTTRPG  2 года назад +2

      I love games with a lot of dice, but this hits just a sweet spot for fast and simple mechanics that I am a huge fan. What Iike about it is, unlike the year zero engine with its d6 dice pools, all the numbers matter.

    • @heroeshomebrew

      @@DMTalesTTRPG It seems very simple and quick which is great. Having too many options can really slow down the pace of a game. I do like the Year Zero engine dice pool in the Alien rpg though, it creates a lot of tension which works for the game.

    Great video. The question for me is, this or Icrpg for my limited shelf space? Hankrin (the publisher of both) seems to have jumped ship and is working on a supplement for this. But Icrpg has d20s.

      To be fair, ICRPG has been around for quite a while and there's an ultimate edition out. Hankerin has been creating other RPGs during the time of ICRPG development as well, "jumping ship" seems like an unfair assessment.

    • @andersarpi5230
      @andersarpi5230 Год назад +4

      To answer your question, in my humble opinion: ICRPG is a great toolbox full of great ideas and gadgets, but EZD6 is something I see as a more complete package that is easy to get to the table with minimal fuss. If I had to choose one (I have them both in my shelf) I would choose EZD6.

      could roll with d12 and just pick the values of a d6 as it's "just doubled up" if you really want a d12 instead of a d6 for the feels.
      i.e
      1-2 on d12 =1
      3-4 on d12 = 2
      5-6 = 3
      7-8 =4
      9-10=5
      11-12=6
      ^^^^ this also allows for some more fine grained difficulty settings as a GM. Number transfers from monsters/NPC should be easy.

    I don't get that part, if it only takes 3 shots to kill then what is the point of rolling a lot of 6 to get more and more and more (possibly unlimited) damage?

    How does this game handle attribute checks?

    • @DMTalesTTRPG
      @DMTalesTTRPG  Год назад +3

      You don’t have attributes. You have boons and banes. If you’re character is trained in something you get a boon, if they are weak in something you get a bane.
      A boon is 2d6, keep the higher number.

      That’s fine. It’s probably similar to how I feel about Powered by the Apocalypse games. I see the appeal but it hasn’t resonated with me to this point.

    Another game that fucks over spell casters (unless they have a reliable source of Karma). Fighters can just trade blows but spell casters need some reliable spells.

    • @DMTalesTTRPG
      @DMTalesTTRPG  Год назад +4

      I mean, if that's your take. But given that D&D's solution to martial classes being boring was to make a ton of casting classes I really can't agree. I don't think casters get screwed over in this game, either.

    • @davidmc8478

      I think that’s a bad take. Everyone is supposed to accumulate strikes and eventually die,
      Fighters too. Just don’t cast when you are out of hero points … unless you have to, mwahaha. Not having played this but I can see that each fight could be dominated by a single character - the fighter uses karma to kill a creature in one go, or the spell caster finishes the fight with one spell. It’s going to depend on who goes first and everyone will get their moment.

    • @andersarpi5230
      @andersarpi5230 Год назад +2

      In this ruleset it is trivial to make a character that can both cast spells AND fight with swords. It's not classes, and you're not bound by archetypes as much as is common in certain more popular TTRPGs.
      Magic is also flexible and powerful but unreliable, which is by design. If that's not the type of magic you like to play with, that is 100% valid and then this probably isn't your kind of game.
