I've done a similar journey going to a show in my also 38 year old cavalier a few years ago.Theres just something deeply satisfying about the whole process of using an classic in today's world.
There definitely is! Cavaliers were great at this sort of thing, too. Perhaps not as good at towing, but they were great mile munchers.
Nice vid Richard, thanks for the update. Glad to see the BX is showing what it can do. The main point that I'm keeping in mind is your reference to comfort and how most modern cars seem to be designed with the suspension travel of a brick. It's hard to believe that the only reason they do so is to look cool on low profile tyres, but the lack of comfort isn't just down to them, it's the suspension ('sport' just means even harder ride), and the appalling seats. We really have lost our way with comfort in cars, and there doesn't appear to be a positive side to the trade-off.
100% agree. Form has come first, functionality second. Stupid thing is Citroen used to give us both, IMO.
Sort of thing I used to do with my 2.8 Capri. Drag it out the garage and drive it up to the NEC from West Sussex. Last time I did it (2016) the alternator pack up on the M25. I think it was trying to tell me something 🤔
Good to see you back Rich. 👍
To me a 38 year old car isn't that old, being in my middle 50's I remember them in the showrooms. Great to see you using it as a car and not a ornament mate.
I'm 38, too, so I will take that as a compliment!
I miss my old BX 😥Thank you for the video, listening to the good old XU brings back a lot of memories 😇...
Nothing cars hate more than not being used. A lovely long run with everything heat soaked and the oil cleaning every nook and cranny will do her a power of good.
Welcome back. Glad you’re better.
Glad to hear the BX is performing well and trouble free for you, just hope all the praise hasn’t jinxed it for you.I recently did a trip in my 69 D Safari and was about halfway through the trip and thinking crikey the old girl is going well but half an hour later on the side of the road in a pool of green blood.Trip ended up costing me $1280 ,tilt tray and repairs etc.It was a broken hydraulic line left side rear.
Ahh, the green kiss of death! At least not too tricky to sort, though! And you still own a DS, so....
Awesome sauce! Glad your back and well again, man! Whoop!!
Aayyyyeeee!! Good to have you back!! Was gonna put the kids to bed, they can play for a bit longer…
Good to see you back. You've been missed 😢. Glad to see you're easing yourself back in to work 😃
Good to see you back mate, hope you are feeling better and well done on the BX behaving. You need to come up to Scotland in the BX to test the theory. I will stick the kettle on!
One day I plan to, though in the Imp. I want to take it back to Linwood.
Yay! Glad you’re better. I’ve been missing your videos.
Cheers
I’m actually excited for you and the BX
Love the BX what an interesting car
Very enjoyable video, you are living my dream, love doing stuff like this, look forward to the next video
Love this car. The funny thing is cars like this and the similar age cavalier can do mpg figures not much worse than a,modern petrol suv or crossover. Btw ferndown is in dorset. I grew up there 😀😀
Priceless Glad your back, Chevronics? Citroen Heaven
Love it
You are living my dream
Love the BX
Love the video
Look forward to seeing you next video
Just subscribed and always love a red BX 🙂
Good story! Took a little Sunday drive this afternoon with my 1986 Ford Fiesta 1.1L MK2, next weekend it has to drive for three days to various events. Old cars are nicer to drive than modern cars, recently driven with my brother's new Volvo V60, my back immediately hurt (couldn't find a good setting) because of the too many adjustment options of the modern car seats.
The BX is still a great towcar. The suspension sorts out the ride height in seconds. I once filled by 19RD estate with a pallet and a half load of paper. The ride was only slightly harder than normal, but the brakes had to work quite a bit harder.
Totally agree!
As a BX mk 1 owner i love theese videos, just a sugestión, for non enough english speakers, would it be posible to speak a bit more clearly.
Thanks for all you do for BX and other citroens
The microphone was poor back then, but my speech is a little slurred at times I admit. Not much I can do sadly.
Thanks
Playing a bit of BX roulette Rich? The car rides very well, the trailer , not so much.
The trailer is horrendous.
Don't think there's Reps anymore Richard ...everybody just orders their merchandise online.
Who were all those people in Audi Q3s then? Where were they going? What is their purpose?! I need answers!
@@UPnDOWN The thinking was why pay a battalion of reps and a branch corporate office rent when a couple of computers would do...
There probably just upwardly mobile nouveau riche yuppies dropping of the kids to private schools.
Great cars i had a bx in the late eighties , wish i still had it todays cars are a bit boring!!!!!!👍👍👍👍👍👍
Totally agree.
You’re back! 😃
Very Tractable and Robust engines the XU family.
People in the UK mock the BX and French cars in General, but aside from squeaky and rattling trim for a period they are extremely Robust and built to last.
Yup. The BX feels flimsy, for sure, but it clearly isn't underneath.
Glad to see you back. Do I detect an upgrade in the microphone? Careful you don't get professional.
No, I just didn't put the lapel thing in, it's the same mic that I upgraded to during the Cecily vids....ah, I'd better finish those!
What’s the deal with that passenger seat ? Is it the Elephant Man wrapped in rags ? ;-)
Good old car 🚘🚙🚘👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Loves driving, hates garage doors...
I love your channel. I’ve got a 1987 BX 19gti with 242400 kms in pretty mint condition but I need some door strips. Do you have any to send me?
Thanks. There are a few different types of door moulding.
@@UPnDOWN yes it’s for Gti. It’s a black strip with a white or silver along top of it all all four doors. Series one Gti
Thanks
Don't have anything like that, sadly.
@@UPnDOWN ok. Do you have any other types?
That's good fuel economy for that distance too. How much does a BX weigh? (n.b. not googling it simply to promote online discussion about car weight bloat)
The mk1 16TRS, probably about 970kg...maybe I should weigh it in a future video?
Oh no - you got the Rona's ?
Yeah, had it for ages too!
@@UPnDOWN I got my 2nd bout and 8 weeks later still short of breath. Hoping its not the dreaded long Covid
you could of left the bx at my house in stoke or even the fox
If you wanted to buy the Fox, I could have left it there!
Why not Vicky?
Rust and lack of MoT among other reasons...
Sneaky tourettes moment at 1m35? 😂
I was reading the back of a van!
5:11 Mankind is doomed 😞
Hopefully the situation will 'take care' of itself.
