Of course, they are enthusiasts and are pretty diligent about maintainance since nobody wants to get stuck on a trail. And the new Gen JL Jeeps are equipped with the ZF transmissions and are VERY reliable. Just my experience with actual Jeep owners.

Wonderful video Scotty. 22 yrs ago, my neighbor had a Toyota Camry with +360K and needed my help to change out his spark plugs. I broke my ratchet socket on the 1st spark plug. I ask him: "When was the last time you changed your plugs?" He said "Never". I asked how long he had the Toyota? He said: " Bought it new." Then I asked my best question: "When did you last change the oil?" He looked at me with a mad expression on his face and said: "My car does not leak oil - when it gets low on oil - I put in a 1/2 a quart about once a year." I finally got out all the spark plugs: All of these plugs were missing the elbows/electrodes and the middle stems. The car still ran like a Top. WOW.

I just read this article online that a guy ruined his jeep by mudding. Chrysler fiat stated to him that off-road mudding voided the warranty. They took it too far on this one.
Way back in the day, if someone wanted to put a Chevy V8 in a Jaguar, but keep the Jaguar automatic transmission (may have been a Borg Warner), the trick was to scare up a '65 or '66 Studebaker bell housing. Studebaker stopped making engines in '64 and bought Chevy engines for the last 2 years of production. From what I understand, Studebaker had a lot of these bell housings in stock when they pulled the plug on their car operations, so you could order one from South Bend Indiana for quite a while.
Have a ‘19 Highlander and had the new pump installed last week about 2 weeks after they got them at my local, small town dealership. They didn’t want me to bring it in on an empty tank, however 🤷♀️
You run hot and cold on JEEP.. I have heard you say Jeep is going down since AMC and Ferrari. Then you highlight an 80 k Jeep and swear it's the second coming. I own a 2017 Patriot. It works and is reliable. I love the styling and low tech
To everyone pointing out how Toyotas 4x4s are the vehicle of choice in Africa and Australia: according to Toyota data, in 2018 they sold 23,000 Land Cruisers in Africa and 46,000 in Oceania. 240,000 Wranglers were sold in the USA in the same time period. So why should FCA try to sell the Jeep in distant markets when the lucrative North America market is right at their doorstep?
I agree with you on that Gm quality has gotten worse but there not that bad. my parents not had early 00s saturns and the thing ran to like 160,000 miles and then finally died. Know my dads drives a 2009 Buick LaCrosse with 100,000 miles thing is just slowly dieing and has no rust I live in northern Illinois the car came from New York. My mother currently drives a 2017 Chevy traverse it is a decent vechile 40,000 miles and hasn’t broke once. But after ten years 100,000 these gm cars recently seem like they just die.
I drove a rental Equinox and it was fun to drive but I would not in a million years buy one. I'm incredibly happy with my 2015 Toyota Highlander XLE thanks to Scotty's advice.
I’ll have a 97 wrangler sport going up for sale on eBay soon. 137 k miles. Looks and runs great. Use Amsoil 90% of its life. Highway miles too. Scotty, can you work on my boat? 4 cylinder inboard outboard Has the iron duke engine Just needs the timing set. Of course I’ll pay you.
My 1996 Chevy S10 is a money pit. But I love having it because the long bed is handy for trips to the hardware store and as a work truck. But I have invested am arm and a leg in repairs.
I have a theory about so-called car reliability. If you take any given car model and it's owned by a family of 4 and it's constantly driven with a full load, even with regular maintenance, things such as the transmission will tend to go by 100k miles. Meanwhile the same exact model car driven 90% of the time with one person in it (the driver) might end up making it to 200K miles easily.
I bought a whole bunch of Mobil Super Synthetic at $0.97 a quart and $4.77 for a 5 quart. Problem is I have like 40 Quarts of oil and I don't need to change my oil that often due to my short commute.
@@stillnotwoke Ford says every 6 months/5,000 miles or 3 months/3,000 miles for severe use. I'm on track for about 4,000 miles a year. I'll end up doing 1 year/5,000 miles whichever comes first.
Japanese cars are machines that are used for going from point a to b with no problems. European cars are for the enthusiast, very easy to mod and play with,(smiles per gallon). American cars are for people who cares about looks and big engines ( which are only good if you want ro go in straight line). Every car serves a different person pick accordingly. Love for all brands,no hate🙏.
As someone whos chrysler certified and worked with Chrysler for decades, The 3.6 is NOT unreliable and i would actually recommend it, the pentastar is one of the best engines chrysler has used. The 2.5 and 3.8 that chrysler used during the daimler era were disasters. Timing chain driven water pumps among other stuff. The first gen 3.6 doesn’t even have an egr system and the most expensive repair ive seen on the pentastars are the lash adjusters and rockers, the second gen has fiat integrated can bus systems, wiring and connectors, as well as an egr system, but i have yet to see one break
Scotty at first I thought you lost it saying Jeep is better than Toyota but phew thankfully not true but next time “I won’t get fooled again”. Love The Who 🇬🇧 ❤️💜
Got a 87 Cherokee 240k miles on it 5 speed, people look at me like I’m crazy in a stock xj doing ridiculous things and then just driving 65 miles back home in the same truck
Ever heard of the ghost of Chrysler?? Possessed Jeep syndrome. My lights, blinkers, wipers, horn, washer fluid and locks lock and unlock complete electrical spazz is the best way to describe this. lasted 5 minutes in the bank drive threw today. Gotta love jeep
My first Toyota was a 1985 SR5 4x4 Access Cab pickup with 5 speed and 22R...put almost 400k on the clock. Rust cancer took her, I sold it to a guy who wanted it for the cab, engine and tranny for an Outer Banks beach rig. Loved that truck. Once I sold her in 1997, because we were being assigned to duty in New England, I special ordered a 1997 Jeep Wrangler Sport TJ (first year of the return of the “round eyes”!). Now 66, I own a 2020 Tacoma TRD OR...I like the Tacoma, but the romance of the SR5 isn’t the same, BUT I still own the Jeep....straight six and five speed. All my kids were required to learn to drive a standard....Jeep served that purpose. Brought my son home in that Jeep. The TJ has been loyal and dependable, 23 years old and 150k on the clock. So, Toyota vs Jeep? Buy both!
Scotty I’ve got a 2001 Toyota Sequioa. It was stolen and the ignition was all broken out. Other than replacing that, what do I have to do to bypass the anti theft to get it started??
The guy with the old El Camino would be better off putting a Honda Civic Type R 4 cyl in it!! Those 12 cyl Jags are good for one thing - ballast! If he drives it in the winter, throw it in the back for weight. BTW - lookin' mighty stylish in the new shirts, Scotty!
Don't buy a Jeep. I am a die hard Toyota/Lexus guy and I junked my rusted out Ford F150 (rusted frame, Ford has this in their trucks a lot). So I went looking for a Toyota truck. I couldn't find any used Toyota trucks at any of the used dealerships. So I bought a Jeep from a lady at work. I ran into many problems within the first three months of owning it. As it turns out, there are many people who post the many, frequent problems that come with Jeep. And this Jeep is before Fiat took over it. Where do we start? Rusted out oil pan? Bad transmission lines? Bad transmission? How about bad sensors? Or, how about the dash always telling you that you have a loose gas cap and the dash dings every 5 seconds to tell you so. Its not a bad gas cap, Jeeps are known for bad vacuum lines. Most of the time its a bad canister which is located by the fuel tank. But my last problem is I couldn't shift the Jeep from Park. First I had to rock it back and forth to help it go into drive. Then that no longer helped, so I had to rip apart the center console, remove the rubber shifter linkage and manually pull back that lever to shift the car. But wait, I couldn't figure out what exactly was wrong with it. My friend who owns a garage looked at it and determined the Jeep needed a new steering column. But he fixed it where I didn't have to put any more money into it anymore. Jeep is not better then Toyota in any means. My lexus is older then this Jeep with over 100,000 miles more then this Jeep and I have no rust on it at all. The Jeep has rust everywhere. Same environment.
Completely stock American designed Jeeps and Rover products always seemed to be the best off road years ago when I read comparison tests in Car & Driver and Motor Trend magazines. I think the Toyota FJ Cruiser and Land Cruiser with the locking differentials were quite good too.
Scott actually got himself a decent haircut. Great job Scott. Is the 3800 engine Chrysler uses in its vans any good? I've had mine since New 2010 with 102,000. Doesn't use oil. I love the engine. I hate the 6 speed trans.

You run hot and cold on JEEP.. I have heard you say Jeep is going down since AMC and Ferrari. Then you highlight an 80 k Jeep and swear it's the second coming. I own a 2017 Patriot. It works and is reliable. I love the styling and low tech
My father has a red jeep Cherokee, 20 years old and the only thing that's ever gone bad is one (OEM) starter and the headlight switch.
Is it just me or is Scotty's voice so soothing, it relaxes you when you're feeling a little stressed out! haha
Scotty. I have a 2000 Jeep XJ and it still runs fine
The first generation 4 runner was a off road beast it go anywhere.
For a young rookie driver looking for a reliable next vehicle by make over model, your content sure helps Scotty!
My '78 IH Scout is more repairable in the field by a shade tree mechanic(me) than a modern vehicle. Though it is rough, noisy, and uses more fuel.
Lol, I was excited at first. but at least I have a 1992 Wrangler which gets the Scottie seal of approval!
This intro is the best yet.
God bless you Scotty! Being frugal is nothing to be ashamed of!
My 1996 Chevy S10 is a money pit. But I love having it because the long bed is handy for trips to the hardware store and as a work truck. But I have invested am arm and a leg in repairs.
Scotty “on the road” shirt...nice one
I have a theory about so-called car reliability. If you take any given car model and it's owned by a family of 4 and it's constantly driven with a full load, even with regular maintenance, things such as the transmission will tend to go by 100k miles. Meanwhile the same exact model car driven 90% of the time with one person in it (the driver) might end up making it to 200K miles easily.
@ 5:11 ,that why I love this man, extremely practical and honest too 😂😂😂😂
I wish they would bring the accord back to the UK. They were brilliant
As always love those side pics. :)
I bought a whole bunch of Mobil Super Synthetic at $0.97 a quart and $4.77 for a 5 quart. Problem is I have like 40 Quarts of oil and I don't need to change my oil that often due to my short commute.
You still need to change it at least once a year...regardless of miles.
@@stillnotwoke Ford says every 6 months/5,000 miles or 3 months/3,000 miles for severe use. I'm on track for about 4,000 miles a year. I'll end up doing 1 year/5,000 miles whichever comes first.
the 3.6 has a 10 yrs track record now, with exception to first yr valve problems, has proven to be way more reliable than the older 3.8
I appreciate that album cover. And I love your cat stuff.
I had that LP, The Who..."Who's Next" circa 1970 - '71.
Oh yeah well spotted.
My favorite Mechanic is also a fan of my favorite band, The Who! Wicked cool!
Scotty you should make video of you flying your drone, and thank you for acknowledging my comment on the beauty cover.
Got the wife a 2018 Jeep Wrangler. Granted it only has 16K miles on it but no problems so far. Has the new turbo 4 cylinder fiat engine too.
So how’s your jeep a year later? It’s now 4 years old?
@@pjevans854 No problems whatsoever. 38K miles now. Just oil changes and tire rotations. My Land Rovers-now that’s another story.
Seafoam cleans fuel system pretty good. Don’t put in oil like it says you can it will cause oil leak
I’d love to be in TN and have you do a video on my 1999 Jeep Cherokee Classic with 206,000 miles on it. Runs like a champ as my daily driver
Scotty, have a great 2021!
I could listen to you tell stories all day, Scotty!
I been watching Scotty for a long time now and i just realised that i haven't subscribe yet so i just did it ,keep up the good work
Scotty at first I thought you lost it saying Jeep is better than Toyota but phew thankfully not true but next time “I won’t get fooled again”. Love The Who 🇬🇧 ❤️💜
Love your work Scotty
thank you!
1997 Jeep Wrangler 4.0 5 Speed Manual 101k miles
But you pay much more for a Toyota.. Save that money. Jeeps last over 200k lately. Except some lemons built on a holiday by bad employees i think
Inline 6 in the Jeep’s are bulletproof I’ve had two of them and regretted selling both .
Yeah they were. I had 2 of em brand new. The rest of the rig fell apart around it, sadly.
Whenever Scotty Kilmers drops the new videos I roll up the Number and get all schmoked up.
Buy both!
I remember like 5 or 6 years ago here in Australia someone made a rap on how they regretted buying a jeep lol
And there are videos about people regretting buying a Toyota
the car most people regretted buying award goes to jaguar , audi n bmw.
Bro I remember that like yesterday...
Scotty Kilmer for president!
Scotty I’ve got a 2001 Toyota Sequioa. It was stolen and the ignition was all broken out. Other than replacing that, what do I have to do to bypass the anti theft to get it started??
You the boss sir. Thanks for sharing your knowledge on cars
You can use a GX460 or GX470 as an alternative to a Jeep.
Now that if you feel sadomasochistic you can always get a Range Rover for off-roading.
Old defenders aren't bad, are they?
I can't believe Scotty said Jeep > Toyota I'm literally shaking and crying rn.
Yeah, a Jeep with the old 4.0L 6 that are known to go 400,000 miles.
Jeep pre 2008 recession was very dependable. Just thirsty and shitty daily drivers
I love by Jeep.. it's 2 years old and is amazing
Say that in 20 yrs.
I won't have it in 20 years
Got a 2001 Chevy s10 4x4 got 315,000 miles and still going
I test drove a 2018 Honda Accord manual. The gearbox felt like it was going to snap. Worst manual I’ve driven, after the Nissan Altima manual.
"If they're worn they can dribble", like so much in life....
