- Tourists and locals captured images of the iconic Oceanside Pier Friday, one day after a devastating blaze erupted at the end of the structure.
"We were in the middle of actually re-doing the concrete part," said Mayor Esther Sanchez. "That's like a $40 million dollar project. To have this happen, we're all brokenhearted."
She said she's already gotten calls from state and federal leaders, offering their support in rebuilding the pier.
Friday firefighters remained at the scene, watering down hot spots. The fire appears to have started in the old Ruby's Diner. So far, investigators have not determined what sparked the fire. The ATF is assisting in the investigation.
Oceanside Fire Chief David Parsons said fire crews from multiple agencies worked through the night and were able to save 90% of the pier.

They milked that fire.
Sounds like a inside job
When Oceanside hears OB might be getting a pier remodel before they do
This is like my toddler covering his eyes pretending like I can’t see him while giggling. Just stop.
what a joke i knew those 2 boats couldnt put the fire out
Be willing to bet it was the homeless around there.
I feel sorry for the small business that was there not the old Ruby's but hopefully the locals will support them.
Poor sea life.
Just another day in Firefornia!
Woahhhh
WHY arsenal act to destroy the newly established restaurant & beautiful pier??? Human's heart becomes "wax cold" lacking "love & affection".
Our fishing piers should never have had a building on it holding it hostage forever anyways
Exactly, ugly ass building was an eye sore all these years
@@SALTER818 thx And the news needs to start renaming our piers properly as “Fishing pier” . Our fishing piers were not built for Diners
Piers are very expensive to maintain. I don’t know how much the business taxes helped.
They keep claiming that several departments were there. 🤷🏻♀️ but all those “departments” were unable to do much of anything. There were so many fire trucks and fire men standing around in front of my home and the pier. Even the boats could only assist a little. The 1st helicopter came about 50 mins after the start. So sad 😢 They were definitely not prepared for such a situation which is Very concerning and so disappointing. Imagine if it burned at the entrance or middle of the pier and was summer, full of tourists?! I live by the pier and can see it :( and who cares what Esther and Levin think?! How about the locals and businesses who are next to the pier?!
Likely that stupid tourist trap brine box started it ...they should pay for everything including rebuilding.
If you watched the news conference you would have heard that they had to rotate crews due to oxygen tanks switching…
@@macking104 anyone with common sense would figure that out lol
I'm with you. Okay so the Brine Box ( was just there) used the restaurant kitchen but let's face it, that's a lot of square footage of unattended live building aging on the end of a wooden pier. We're equally sad about it for sure☹️
I have video of the newly installed fire suppression system not being used. The fire chief said in a press conference that the rumors going around that the system wasn’t being used is false. He’s lying. Was just installed with all electrical and utilities as well about a month ago after a year of installing. Watch any video and you’ll see only ONE HOSE fighting the fire from the deck when the fire system installed in the parking lot has FOUR OUTLETS!! They even called it a controlled burn for fakes sake.
Oh no. I hope it wasn't raid foggers that started the fire.
Duh yeah stand back and let it burn because you dont have a clue , where was it ut going to spred in the ocean ?
Like a tesla battery fire .. takes too long to put it out
insurance fraud
Tear Down and Rebuild.
