Thank you. When I was a child my Dad loved coconut. Mom would poke the eye out and drain the water into a glass and then crack the nut with a large knife and then peel it, shred it and toast it. Then she would make his favorite coconut cake with it! I thought there had to be an easier way! Your boys are adorable.
Your boys are amazing😃 I love how your younger boy was very specific and also how your older son is so entertained by his brother and kudos to you for being a great father🙏I am about to open my coconut 🥥 in a few moments.....thanks so much
Thank you so much for this video. Finally got my coconut open! Very informative. Took a few tries but it worked. One trick I saw elsewhere (that really helped me) was to wet your coconut b4 striking it on its equator. Love your kids and their commentaries! You guys are awesome!
loved it! very informative. did not realize there were two different types of coconuts!! boys are adorable. love to see a family doing things together. thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge.
Not really two different 'types' per se. One is when the coconut is still young. The other ..the brown one is when the coconut is matured and older ..same coconut just at different age stages.
Easy and honest! Husband bought the old kind from the store for my 9 year old and the video was simple and on point! FYI we didn't have a cleaver so my hubby used a oyster knife, worked great! Thanks
best instruction video ever! just wished I had watched this earlier because I always loved coconuts but never had any good experience opening one without making my house sounded like a war zone!
this is the best instructional video for opening a coconut. so simple and no need to punch the eyes/mouth of the coconut first. I am going to do this tomorrow. Love the boys, no idea what they said or which they liked the best but they are adorable.
Thank you. This vid was just what me and MY two little boys were wanting to help us with our coconut! Your little guys had fun, so cute. Thank you again!
And if you keep going, you'll also learn how to measure a man for a suit alteration, evaluate a video game's basic design and play-style elements from a developer's perspective, cook foreign dishes you don't have the ingredients for, break in toe shoes for a ballet hobby you don't have, and other compellingly need-to-know-now sleep-repelling things just like I did! *blinks bloodshot eyes*
I used the same tool as you after trying hard with a hammer that didn't work. Thanks for the help! I also like the way you explain a little about coconuts. And your younger son is funny! Haha
Hey man-staying in Thailand for a few months and after working out at the gym I drive home on my motorbike and stop by this guy selling green coconuts on the side of the road. Grab 2 of them every day-fresh from the tree same day and man o man so refreshing but always had a hard time opening up for the meat part so thanks for the info. Oh by the way the cost works out to about 30 cents each---never asked for a tax receipt-lol
Hey, 1 nice tip. Put both halves of coconut into freezer for about 10 - 15 min. Then you can loosen the meat around the edges and soon can pop it out in 1 whole piece.
I watched a documentary called Fa'a Samoa and the man showed you how to open a coconut in one swing of his knife. Besides that it was educational and funny to watch. Hope this makes your coconut opening technique quicker and enjoyable as well. Thanks for sharing.
Good demo. Except you should not be advocating getting you coconut wrapped in plastic. Plastic does not make things "clean". It is bad for the environment and bad for you. Plus it is is a bloody hard shell that you don't eat (natural packaging).
Is not that difficult to get the meat out. If you have hammer of any kind will more then suffice to do the job. Just give it a nice whack at it as if it was the last bottle of water on the planet and split the earth in half.
Thank you for showing this video. I saw a video with a green coconut and the only kind I have seen in my life have been the brown hairy ones. I asked in the comments what kind of coconut was the green one. Some unhelpful idiot replied 'are you dumb' Now I know the green one is a younger version. Cheers.
hey great vid. have you considered trying the coconut knife? i bought two on amazon and it is a really useful tool for removing the coconut meat after you halve the coconut. A must buy.
I am most gracious for your upload and explaing that for me finally About the coconuts I had to wait for that answer a long time I plum almost forgot now I'm an old fart yea!!!bless your heart chid I love you
heh! nice video! I bought a young Thai coconut for $2 at farmer's market 2 weeks ago...finally opened it up to make my own coconut yogurt...came out pretty good! But hacking that 'nut up to get the meat out was NOT fun! maybe the more I do it, the easier it will be!
Thanks for this great video. Just one thing, about the young coconut, since the plastic they've been repped in has been sprayed with a bunch of Fungicides and Chemicals we don't really want to touch it so it's best to only take the top part off where you wanna cut into and not the whole thing , that way we minimise contact with all of those chemicals. All The best.
Informative, but I was so nervous just waiting for a finger to go flying off or stabbing of your hand! It made for gripping cinema! *LOL* Thanks for the comparison.
Those boys are too silly. Lol. It's always good to have little helpers. Thanks for the video. It really is helpful.

Thank you for posting. Was able to break open coconut just now and have some. Delicious.
Cute kids! Thanks for giving instructions for both types...that don't involve digging through a tool chest or heating up the coconut!
A useful video. A lot of people try to open a coconut using a hack-saw, but this method here is a lot easier!
this is the best instructional video for opening a coconut. so simple and no need to punch the eyes/mouth of the coconut first. I am going to do this tomorrow. Love the boys, no idea what they said or which they liked the best but they are adorable.
I really appreciate that you incorporated both of these it gives me an idea of which one to buy for what meals I plan to make.
