This song reminds me of my past, when I was about 20 years old. I felt just like this song. I was scared because I was supposed to grow up and take responsibilities, I was supposed to make big decisions for my future and I simply couldn't do that. I think I remained in this state for at least 5 or 4 years and I also hated myself because everyone around me was going on and I wasn't. But, now I'm 25 and I've found what I've been looking for.. And I am grateful I went through this, because maybe if I didn't I wouldn't be who I am now. So don't lose your faith, ever!

Athena Forsythe yeah,it hits home; in my heart. Had two mental breakdowns last month-the 2nd landed me inpatient in the psyc ward for 5 days and acute outpatient therapy for four weeks. I’m still out of work and have until February 6th to get my shit together through therapy and the right cocktail of meds. I’m bipolar 1 with psychosis. I’ve been learning how to be kind to myself. It’s been a rough journey.

To me, the song expresses what the reality of being a popular “character” in society can mean (in terms of sheer exhaustion), and not having the energy to interact with the world or reciprocate much of anything. Even when it’s people offering their sincerest love and gifts. At least in my personal life; it describes to me the internal conflict of wanting to give the same amount of love and support I receive; but also needing solitude and SPACE in its highest degree, for just sheer health and balance. “It’s my mistake, not yours.” Is what I want to say to everybody that ever tricks themselves into thinking that they have unrequited love for me because of my regrettable scarcity of attention to them. The reason a song has a power like no other art form, is that it can connect the words and intentions with the feelings; through melody. The melody and lyrics in this just brought a new way of articulating a vivid feeling between souls.

TH1S MUSIC gosh I feel the same as Gabby just wow... I think the melodies in her music create such emotional tension in her songs.... I remember listening to salvation and at the ending with that big instrumental part I felt a surge of strong deep emotion that can’t be explained in any other way than that. It’s pure genius.

Perfect. This is so relatable and I feel represents depression very accurately. I probably have written similar lyrics myself about it, especially the line "getting beat by my own game". -- a lyric I wrote went "I hate how I'm a victim to my own devices" followed by replacing "a victim" with "addicted". And I have always felt that depression was a kind of cold comfort. ("There’s magic in this misery") While it made me feel friendless, somehow it felt like a friend. It was a familiar feeling and something guaranteed.
I had to stop short and re-read what you wrote because I have thought this EXACTLY. I’ve always perceived happiness as precarious and depression as comfortable and I would indulge in it. I pray that brighter times shine upon us. :)
I remember my depression and I felt that way, in the sense that “there’s magic in this misery”, it was only time I felt sane in the madness after I would cry so hard that I felt nothing but numb and I wouldn’t move, that really deep sadness held some comfort before falling back to reality, I would try to reach that point a lot before realizing how bad it was

Whenever I listen to you memories come flooding back to me, I remember going on holiday and I got to choose the cd to play in the car and I chose ‘English Rain’ and I’d look out of the car window and pretend I was in a movie and that the raindrops on the window were racing each other. I’d play the songs on repeat and just fall in love with the music. I’m so happy that you still makes music, it’s always such a sentimental thing to me, to hear your voice brings me so much love and warmth, thank you.
oh my.. I feel the same! I used to listen to her covers and it don't think i will ever feel the same as before, it was such a special and unique feeling.. it's very beautiful to feel this way about a song and an artist.
I also had English rain on repeat on my iPod when on coaches and planes travelling around Australia.. made everything feel so much more magical.. brought back memories of home etc.

This song speak to me in so many ways. Something I notice is how it is in a way saying to nurture your Inner Child and the emotions we feel in the little versions of us. And at the end of the day children just let go and feel and move through it. The dancing part is like your Inner child being released and connected with. All pages crafted in the dark of delicacy and after closing the final page, you come to the conclusion that the world will not be right if they did not share the same experience when reading the book. The thing about despair is that it makes you grow as a person, but linger too long in it and it becomes an inseparable part of you. It becomes your closest friend, inextricably linked with comfort and fulfillment. There is such a fine line between love and pain. When you feel unloved and lonely, pain quickly fills the human need for deep emotion. It makes you feel human, but it also causes you to lose touch with reality. Darkness becomes an addiction, and you feel as if it is the only thing you deserve. You begin to see the highest beauty in the things which seem morbid and dark to the rest of the world. You are isolated. Leaving your pit of despair seems to mean losing your only friend, because...who could love someone who doesn't want to feel better?

Wow. I love this whole song, but that verse just blows me away. I can’t help but feel like that sometimes, especially right now because I’ve been struggling emotionally the last handful of months.
