In this video I'm gutting the pre-cats from the car as preventative maintenance to stop potential engine failure. All information relating to pre-cats on the mk3 MR2 can be found here: midshiprunabou...

Wow what a lovely brick yard
Thanks for the shoutout Himi 🤘🏼 keep the uploads coming!
I'm a little late to the party on this video but thanks for an informative video. I recently purchased a 2000 MR2.
Not at all, enjoy your Mr2 - they're brilliant cars!
Check out the Facebook group UK Mr2 Roadsters - really informative and helpful group.
haahahahaha i love the shoutout best youtuber ever, met him in kfc once and he offered to take me into the lift for free chicken
Did you have to take the rear bumper off for this?
I had the rear bumper off anyway. But shouldn't need to take it off to do this.
@@HimiJ Thanks! That was a really good guide. I"ll be watching this again when I'm doing this with my friends tomorrow.
Good luck. I posted a forum link in the description which has useful information and a step by step guide 👍🏼
Wow what a lovely brick yard
You got got a face lift?!?!? You're so young tho am confused
Confusing times we live in
outside during quarantine, thumbs down
Outside in my garden 😂
Smart move removing the precat. I have a pre 2003 Mr2 and my engine blow. Getting it swapped as we speak :)
😵😵.
You putting a 1zz in or 2zz 🤔
@@HimiJ just gonna stick 1zz in for the sake of insurance
Makes sense, fuel economy is very good as well.
I heard that MR2s have the pre cat fix if they were built in 2002...that is when the 2003 model year started but some pre facelift cars were built in 2002 as well. I am just wondering since mine is a built in 2002 2002 model year instead of a built in 2001 2002 model year. Any definitive evidence on if it was fixed or not on these final pre facelift units would be appreciated. The facelift 2003 models started production in 2002 for clarity.
@@fortheloveofnoise Just a heads up, whilst the piston rings were updated to make them less likely to fail on the facelifted model you can still experience engine death due to the precats-I'd recommend taking them out anyways just for safety.
Roger alpha eagle is here
just gutted my pre-cats today what a bloody pain to get all the rusted on nuts off took all day but finally did it ! gonna bolt it all back together tomorrow !! think my flex bit on the exhaust has come apart just like yours did ! looks like a new performance exhaust is needed !
Yeah the bolts can be a nightmare. Haha perfect reason to upgrade exhaust! 👌🏼
I’m wondering if this can cause mpg and evap codes?
If it’s clogged that is. Also are they the same in the fact they should measure hotter at their outlet than inlet?
Will it pass the emissions test for the mot ?
Yes, main Cat is still in place - pre-cats are only put in so the car is clean while the main cat is heating up. As long as the main cats heated up will pass.
@@HimiJ that is very good news! I'm on the verge of getting a particular MR2 and it's had a different stainless precat exhaust fitted. Not precats on the car, just the normal catalytic converter.
Hi himi.saw mechanic he is still struggling had heat torch on it .Just paid ££270 New cat .c
Ahhaahah thats why I thought your car sounded decatted... big leak:P
Do you have any friends?
Got you

Hi himi.3 days later 90 quid cat fixed.they bolts.area struggle.i would have been quicker coming to Glasgow. Regards.jim
Good to hear you got it sorted in the end Jim 👌🏼
Hi Jim here in preston. Far paisley my mr2 roadster bought new cat.c
Mechanic cannot get bolts off
Hi Jim, thanks for your comment, the bolts that hold the cat to the manifold are known to be difficult to remove - they're known as the 3-amigos among Mr2 owners. It's normally a case of spraying them in some penetrating fluid, using a powerful impact gun or a breaker bar. Sometimes the studs come off with the bolt. A mechanic should be able to get them off 🤷🏽♂️, could be worth trying somewhere else. All the best.
Had to grind the 4 heatshield bolts off, 3 amigos not too bad, but I CANNOT FOR THE LIFE OF ME REMOVE THE MANIFOLD NUTS/STUDS... Doused in thousands of litres of plus gas but they aren't budging...
Try cleaning the threads with a dremel or something
Use penetrate stuff to clean up threads too
Heat up the nuts and use bolt extractor sockets
Not sure if these are long enough, I'm going to try then today
well done! Very useful and helpful.

i want a shoutout i have virus
Hi himi cat off but drilling bolts off keep you posted should have paid you .Jim
You get it sorted in the end ?
Shit guys I made it got a shout out
Bit of rust showing on your cross member, have you checked it underneath where the exhaust runs near it?
Yes, mostly surface rust addressing it in a coming video.
