Thanks for the work that you do Justin, I had a slightly similar experience this past two weeks. There are many points that I agree with you on. As for Syria, one of the most irksome comments I remember from the early days was this idea that you could somehow 'separate' morality and geopolitics and that we somehow should be sheering for the foreign overthrow of a sovereign country, one that's part of the resistance network in the background. That separation is not just thoroughly illogical but a betrayal to justice because we, any principled anti-imperialists, or tankies if you will, do not get the privilege of separating morality from the historical fate of millions, rather billions of people, which is the reason why the geopolitical question matters so much -- it concerns the liberation of an entire 5/6 of the totality of humankind, the global south and periphery countries. I'd add more, but I'd risk making the comment longer than I'd want. Very insightful discussion as always. And I'll be hanging in there with you and everyone else in support with the Resistance.

Huge thanks for what you do. You managed these past couple of weeks. Better than me. I have a very warm and bonded relationship with a group of Syrians from Damascus who now have British citizenship after years of struggle. Their elderly parents remained in Damascus and are celebrating the fact that the bakeries are opening and they are not being forced to wear scarves etc. So the news of Assad’s departure was delivered to me with joy and hope, as what remains of their family are ‘at last’ getting back to ‘normal’. One I am closest to is a single parent whose two teenage boys are suffering symptoms of traumas that she hadn’t anticipated and doesn’t know how to support. The reason I am sharing this is because she feels she needs to reassure me with evidence from the western media when I ask her how her parents are doing. During the period of your absence from this space I suffered my first epileptic seizure in 7 years as I witnessed how Syria was being bullied into complying, whilst supporting this family - which I will continue to be alongs, whatever happens. She and her siblings are proud Damascenes who are relieved that they ‘no longer have to worry’ about their parent’s safety. We wait and hang in there. But it is costly if we don’t give ourselves a space and time to breathe. I am learning. Thanks to you and your colleagues for all you have done and continue to do. We listen and watch and learn 🙏🏼

I don't always agree with your views but you have a balanced thinking approach that is extremely helpful in the discussion. You are definitely an asset to the truth seekers. Allah SWT bless you and guide you brother.
Your piece about Assad's human rights record was so helpful. I've been on Twitter this past week, feeling like I was losing my mind. People would post pictures of the "horrible conditions in Assad's prisons," and all I could think was, "Wow, these prisons look so much cleaner than most pre-trial detention centers in large US cities." I obviously didn't say all that on Twitter, but I was thoroughly unsettled by the discrepancy in rhetoric. Regarding the fall of Syria, the more I read and listen to analysis about the events and what proceeded them, the more convinced I've become that this was fully avoidable, and while Assad obviously made some big mistakes, I think the strategic failure falls at the feet of China, Russia, and Iran. China and Russia (China in particular) are playing a dangerous game, thinking they can continue to appease the West and somehow buy enough time to make the transition into a multipolar world before there is a direct confrontation with the West and thus possibly avoid the confrontation. I don't think that's going to happen. The West is very much aware that time is not on their side, hence their blatant genocidal rampage across the global south. If China, Russia and Iran don't come together and figure out a strategic plan for proactively challenging US empire in West Asia, they're going to regret as the US and its proxies/vassals pick off their allies one by one and then come after them one by one. While I understand the desire to exercise strategic patience, the time for that has come to an end, and continuing in this manner will lead to unimaginable devastation unlike anything we have ever seen. Even if Russia or China or both end up managing to defeat the US/Wester empire through this method, they will be ruling over a pile of ashes by the end, and I, personally, don't think that's a desirable outcome.
Like you, I admire much of the strategic moves made by Russia, China, Iran but am often perplexed by a seeming lack of action. At times I feel that they are being too patient, too polite, too rigourous re legality when they are faced with an enemy that has no morals, lo laws and is capable of utter barbarity. I feel frustrated by this but then wonder if they are doing so much more under the surface diplomacy than I/we are unaware of. I hope they are. Time will tell.
I normally think a lot about the imperial role in the creation of post-col states ( borders, territorial economies, leaders etc). But, post 1991, its been about unwinding/destroying the unwelcome states that did get past the gatekeepers
So good to see u and hear u again Justin. I saw that Ritter interview. I thought he sounded way too defeatist, but people can have their moments of despair. Never give up hope. To victory, always.
I’m tired of everyone, Justin. And by everyone I mean those not concerned about Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen. I had to narrow my focus… considering.
Thanks for another sitrep. I’ve been watching almost since you started these but keep forgetting to comment. Always appreciate the insights and your careful curation of the community here
Justin! We've all missed you so much. Welcome back :D Syria is so confusing. It's like, when it comes to Palestine, there's a large group of us that agree. But, when it comes to Syria, suddenly, we're divided. It would be so helpful if you could do a video about the Syrian war, similar to the Analyzing WW3 vid you did with Matteo Capasso. I'm sure we would all really benefit from a lesson by you. At this point, I see you as my political analysis Prof. Thank you for all the work you do 💛
scott ritter was obviously reacting out of emotion when he said the struggle was over, he was a little too invested in a quicker win, i don't think the people on the ground fighting against israel were as easily defeated in spirit because they are used to this kind of f#ckery
Abdulmalek's remarks about Egypt are so true. As an Egyptian I can see the soldiers in sinai probably surrender with little to no resistance. Since Sisi became president the culture within the army changed dramatically. Now they view military service in sinai as punishment, and the "best" positions for officers and soldiers are inside the army civilian economic sector, that is also the most corrupt part of the army. When isisrael intensified their daily routine of dropping **censored** on Syria, I immediately thought this is the best gift they can give to the new regime. Now they can claim that they're not fighting back because all the important assets are gone, be it machinery, strategic positions, etc. .. Not because they don't want to betray their caregivers for the last 13 years. Which would do irreversible damage to their reputation domestically, regionally and among the small but growing community of antiemperialists globally.
Hey Justin great to have you back! noticed you had taken time out after Syria's collapse, could see you had no words left in the last sitrep. None of us did. I had timed out from my local Palestinian community group as well, and a few friends who seemingly shared the same values. Confusion, shock, despair, anger, all sorts. Even Dr Marandi in an interview straight after was very composed but oh you could feel his frazzled and angry energy. So can understand Galloway and SRitter (I haven't watched that video maybe I should go have a look) but I'm hearing lots of criticisms at them now, calling them out for being racists! I think we were all so shaken up, blames were flying everywhere, here too, infuriated at some in my local community who were celebrating or ignorant to the truth and implications. Good on you, delete and block away, weeding off toxicity is good. I've had to weed off a few so called "friends" too in my life. A pro Pal Turkish friend who celebrated after Syria fell, that Erdogan is going to free Syria and reestablish the ottoman empire!! 😲 are you freakin serious?! more true colours revealed, bye bye. Great to have you back. We journey on! I've heard yesterday that Russia is moving its bases to Libya. Very smart and strategic, all preps are underway for new moves and strategies. The chess pieces have moved, so they have to readjust their pieces to new strategies. 2025 is going to be interesting to say the least. I'm just praying that the Syrians will not suffer. Just like the Palestinians, they've been through enough. US-Western sanctions hollowed out Syria, the empire's whole intention from Day 1. On another point, have you heard or checked out Alex Krainer's suspicion narratives. He's been interviewed by a few people. One of them on Think Brics. Keen to hear your thoughts on this.
So what if Palestinians celebrated the fall of Assad? That doesn't mean they're celebrating its destruction. And also there's that perfect victim expectation of the Palestinians. Under the circumstances you can't expect them to have the most nuanced and sophisticated takes all the time
Thanks Justin. Totally agree witth your comments policy and cold anger toward the "left" arm of regime change in Syria. Problem is that it extends so far into anti-imperrialist circles. Case in point: Vijay Prashad. I wish we could just be done with these people too but there aren't enough of us for that to work. We need to make the arguments, like you just did here.
Thank you for all that you do in bringing the truth about this horrible conflict. Might you be able to share a link or 2 for charitable websites that you trust that try and get aid to the Palestinian people?
It's so not over. I think that the Syrians will recognise the nature of this multiple occupation if they don't already and there will be resistance to imperialism from within Syria again sooner rather than later. Good to see you're back stronger.
So grateful for how you own up to a sort of emotional collapse and the need to take time off to think, rest, regroup. And to write. That’s why we are all spending so much screen time, to generate solidarity, clear the perspective. Thank you.
To me tankie is also a badge of honour! I discovered the name thanks to you, and it helped me define my views in a short, totally descriptive and, for me, very positive way, so THANKS!
Thank you Justin 🙏 I always look forward to listening to your views & insights, it’s certainly been a really tough year 💔☹️ but when I see the many Palestinians who continue to fight for their survival and to never give up i know that we can never give up on them either 🙏🇵🇸💪.
Welcome back Justin, it is so good to see you again. Days since Syria fell have been bewildering but you are my main touchstone for regaining perspective. Thank you
Hi, Justin, thanks for coming back, we really appreciate your sit reps. I want to ask something, though: many have made the implication that Turkey's attack on the Syrian Arab Republic has been timed with the Lebanon Ceasefire, but the more I think about it, I find that we are missing an important possibility: What if it's the other way around? What if Hezbollah agreed to the Ceasefire because they recieved a tip about the offensive? Because here's the thing: we now know that Iran knew for months that something was being cooked in Idlib, so did Russia. The plan for Syria was being prepared months in advance, and nothing about that changed. What actually changed was Hezbollah's position on separation of the fronts. Isn't it possible that Hezbollah was trying to avoid a two-front war?
Here is the deal: I will call you a tankie all day but only if you call me a tankie all day too. It absolutely is a badge of honour. Thank you for your work, and for cutting through the different varieties of imperialist BS so eloquently.
Thank you Justin, if it is as many people say that Assad had restricted the presence of Iranian personnel in Syria long time ago, it means that since then Iran already had an alternative route to Lebanon.
Thank you Justin. I Love that this is a community and as such requires the checks and balances you implement. Like yourself I pulled away from Social Media. The fall of Syria is a gut-punch to my soul. Truly appreciate your substacks. AS an aside, when I listened to Lavrov's interview with Tucker (Dec.05, 2024) I heard behind Lavrov's diplomatic discourse " multiparty DEALS" in the words he used, or did not use ie: Bashar Al Assad's name was NOT mentioned. I also wondered why Bashar Al Assad was not included in the Dec. 07th mtg. in Doha re: the Astana Agreement. ( Kinda like Ukraine Peace talks without Russia) Something felt seriously OFF. Prior to the discussion on Syria, they talked about Palestine. Lavrov illustrated fealty to the zionist entity, when he said "what happened on 10/07/23 was a TRAGEDY, and what is happening in Gaza is a disaster." I have to wonder about Russia and the zionist entity. Thank you Justin from my heart.

Thanks for your work
Good morning from Sweden ❤🇸🇪 Leaving a 👍and a comment for the algoritmethingy !
I'm tired of everyone, Justin. And by everyone I mean those not concerned about Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen. I’ve had to narrow my focus.
Good to see you back!
Welcome back brother
I’m tired of everyone, Justin. And by everyone I mean those not concerned about Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen. I had to narrow my focus… considering.
Love you, Justin!
Great job Justin as always brother always find your sitreps truly unique filled with honest insights
Justin ... Love you ❤️🖤🤍💚
What a nightmarish rolercoaster, but this channel is a bit like a calm eye of the storm
Thanks for another sitrep. I’ve been watching almost since you started these but keep forgetting to comment. Always appreciate the insights and your careful curation of the community here
Justin! We've all missed you so much. Welcome back :D
Syria is so confusing.
Good to see you, Justin. I'm glad you took a break.
We all need periodic breaks during this madness to preserve our sanity. With love and solidarity. The resistance perseveres!
Was waitinf fr sit rep
Justin is a gem 💎
Your point about comments make sense. We underestimate trolls and efforts to derail threads that exist out there.
Thank you good to see you
So grateful for how you own up to a sort of emotional collapse and the need to take time off to think, rest, regroup. And to write. That’s why we are all spending so much screen time, to generate solidarity, clear the perspective. Thank you.
Welcome back . I am enjoying your substack.
Missed you ❤
You were missed, Justin. ☮
Good to see you Justin, was worried!
I appreciate your work Justin. Thank you!
Welcome back Justin, it is so good to see you again. Days since Syria fell have been bewildering but you are my main touchstone for regaining perspective. Thank you
Yemen - righteous!
Hi, Justin, thanks for coming back, we really appreciate your sit reps.
I want to ask something, though: many have made the implication that Turkey's attack on the Syrian Arab Republic has been timed with the Lebanon Ceasefire, but the more I think about it, I find that we are missing an important possibility:
What if it's the other way around? What if Hezbollah agreed to the Ceasefire because they recieved a tip about the offensive? Because here's the thing: we now know that Iran knew for months that something was being cooked in Idlib, so did Russia. The plan for Syria was being prepared months in advance, and nothing about that changed. What actually changed was Hezbollah's position on separation of the fronts.
Isn't it possible that Hezbollah was trying to avoid a two-front war?
Scott's a good guy also. They both just get a bit emotional, but that's ok.We are living in dark times indeed.
we missed you
Thanks for coming back Justin! I understand you needed a break it has been extremely hard to pull ourselves together
Your substack article about colonial aristocracy was brilliant. Thank you.
You have good knowledge on the issues. I hadn’t come across your channel previously. Will look at other vids
Was waiting for your video for last few days. Great to see you back.
Missed you Justin!
I've missed your Sit Reps. Thank-you for all you do, Justin .I;m going to be looking up Marat Khairullin.
Was feeling really lost and your voice and thoughts have brought back hope to me. Thank you for the sitrep Justin.
thank you Justin for keeping my spirits up on these things
Here is the deal: I will call you a tankie all day but only if you call me a tankie all day too. It absolutely is a badge of honour.
Thank you for your work, and for cutting through the different varieties of imperialist BS so eloquently.
Thank you Justin, if it is as many people say that Assad had restricted the presence of Iranian personnel in Syria long time ago, it means that since then Iran already had an alternative route to Lebanon.
This was so illuminating, thanks for connecting all these dots , Justin!
Long Live the Resistance ✊️
good to have you back, it’s such a dispiriting time but your commentary and this community keeps me encouraged.
