While I am not saying, that character should not matter, if we are going to start using it as a prerequisite for serving within government we will need to let more than half of the current Congress go!
This woman willingly went to Pete’s room and didn’t appear drunk. She’s claiming rape to confuse her husband. Any woman who claims rape when it was consensual should be charged for falsely accusing a man of rape. It happens.
I’m so glad to hear someone say that! I’ve never known anyone who served in the military but I would think Trust and Loyalty would be key. Maybe this is an entirely different situation. Ive always liked him on F&F but I would be so afraid of that Achilles heel from someone with nefarious intentions 😬
If he were nominated for a military officer, that would be the question and I would probably follow that lead as well. But this is a little different. This is a political, civilian position. Nobody’s perfect, given, but I think we’d all be better served with someone a little more wily and calculating. This seems to be a pattern of blunderous, unforced errors and not learning from previous mistakes.
I absolutely love how direct and honest you are covering these tough stories, I have watched you for many yrs and your strength as a journalist is impeccable.
I have no reservations with Pete being elevated to this position at all. This is life and politicians who attack him when they have slimey pasts themselves is laughable. Onward we march.
I have a different take on it. If we do not expect, even require, our politicians to have more integrity, honesty and moral high ground, and just rationalize things by just saying "well, they all do it too," and we conservatives just overlook these seedy things ourselves, then we really are no better than the liberals are we? We are all sinners, and need to be forgiven for our trespasses, but Pete might not seem to be learning from his mistakes, nor making any effort to improve and achieve a moral high ground. Personally IMO this is disturbing and I am feeling he should likely withdraw and not burden Trump's mandate...
@RocketRon7779 no morals? There is not 1 person on this planet who is without sin. Also, I guarantee there is not 1 man on the left (and some on the right) in the senate or house who would pass scrutiny. Eric swallwell had an affair with a Chinese spy and then there is the lefty staffer who had sex in the House chambers. Not 1 punishment was issued. Spare me the holier that thou attitude. Pete Hegseth is perfect for this position
What exactly makes something "our business?" I have never understood this line of thinking? You could argue (I wouldn't) that sexual harassment isn't our business because when one person harasses another, it effects their relationship, but not the public. The reason it's "our business" is because that behavior at scale damages all of society. But cheating is the same thing. I strongly disagree with this "modern" attitude that how a public person behaves in their private lives is not of public concern. If you are a bastard in your private life, you are likely to be a bastard in your public dealings. People aren't moral, in the "public" sphere and immoral in their private lives. That's now how ethics work. If you are immoral in one area of your life, you are likely to be immoral in every area of your life. So a person behaving abominably in private is a concern if they given a position of public confidence.
Should they throw all government officials that ever cheated on their spouse out of office? There's a lot worse than that that they do. Like sold country secrets to foreign countries!
As a married man, I don’t trust people who would cheat on their wife with anything important to me. I wouldn’t let them do my taxes, let them take care of my kids, or let them be my lawyer. This serial cheater could be swayed by one hot Chinese spy, and end up blackmailed in a moment’s notice. Get someone older, who is happily married and is a vet, and wants to end these current wars.
I've been married to two men who were serial cheaters. They broke my heart and betrayed my trust in the worst way. However, both men were intelligent, hard working, and very successful in business. I would trust them both with being in charge of security of our country and have faith in their decisions and leadership. Two things can be true at the same time. Men can have fidelity issues and still be smart capable people.

Plenty of "reformed" drug addicts, rapests, pedo's, predators, stalkers, robbers, kidnappers and murder's out there to also chose from then. Why not give them all high paid positions that can make or break a country and millions of civilians? A lot of them probably had great reputations before being caught. You'd follow someone with zero integrity or loyalty to the people closest to him? That speaks volumes.
If he were nominated for a military officer, that would be the question and I would probably follow that lead as well. But this is a little different. This is a political, civilian position. It means that he can't be trusted to do what he says. He can't make a commitment. Makes bad impulsive decisions!
Eisenhower had a mistress
It is our business when you are working for us!
