Marcus Mariota’s career didn’t pan out long term, but his NFL debut was excellent.
There’s no other player since 1950, possibly ever, who threw for a perfect passer rating and four or more touchdowns in their NFL debut.

I always knew Marcus Mariota would do good in the N.F.L. I watched all his games when he started QB for Oregon,that right there is a gifted QB.,if he continues to stay healthy,and keep doing what he's doing,I see Super Bowl rings for Tennessee,he's a smart QB,and I can tell he reads and study his play book well,I'm a Charger 4life!!! But seeing Mariota and the way the Titans sliced up them Bucs,kinda made me want to be a Titan fan,but like I said Charger faithful always,also Southern Cal....Go Trojian!!!

+Joseph Knight I believe he will bring most of the RB's/TE's and WR's back on the radar because of his dual threat, accuracy of throws that will allow Wisenhunt to keep Titan opponents Defense guessing.
Will be the best combo in the league soon..
His most impressive aspect is his temperament. This will keep him good with the media and allow him to develop into a pocket passer which he is not. RgIII had a very similar game against the saints to begin his pro career. I think 2 TD passes one Rush TD, 0 INT and only 4 incompletions with under 20 attempts. They also ran that read option crap. I just think Marcus can learn from RgIII's mistakes and stay humble which will help him when things get hairy. The one thing about Jameis is the guys in the locker room love him. That will help him but he will have few allies in the media with his personality which is outgoing and eternally positive and LOUD like RgIII. I think Jameis is the better pro style passer but will have less success and will ultimately bust in Tampa and back up somewhere else. Marcus should be able to evolve into a pocket passer and be the guy in Tennessee for a long time, he will have to evolve because they cant run this read option shit forever or he will miss games from injuries once defenses adjust. Nice first performance.

rg3 didn't win much college games as much as Mariota ....Mariota had more passing yards than RG3 at Baylor...Mariota only had sprained knee...RG3 had to seat out one year cause he had a messed up knee...acl...and Mariota is Humble you fool....last year he explained to his teammates while getting interview.... he doesn't like to be in the spot light and he doesn't want to caught up with media
a perfect passer rating in your debut is no joke.
I just did a stathead search. No other quarterback since 1950 has as many passing touchdowns and a perfect passer rating in their first game in the NFL.

Quickest release in the NFL. His release is slightly quicker than Aaron Rodgers and no one else is even close. The camera man can't even keep up on some of the throws.

I said it! Marcus Mariot is a BEAST!!! His quick release and elite decision making makes him near impossible to sack. I had the luxury to watch him play at Oregon, his first game vs Arkansas State I watched him and I said to myself "This kid is going to be special". The problem isn't so much the system these kids come from nowadays it has more to do with their mechanics as a QB! Can he go through his progression, can he step up in the pocket and deliever strikes, can he lead his WR's into open field?... And most importantly does he set his feet before he throws? These are thr kinda questions you ask yourself when judging how good a player is and Marcus checked all those box's and then some.

Remember the knocks on Mariota? "They wont play that type of offense in the NFL", "All he does is throw to wide open receivers", "He's never taken a snap under center!", "He cant throw in to tight windows", "Running quarterbacks are not successful in the NFL". Mariota showed in just his first NFL game all of those to be false, except for maybe the offense in the NFL. Which quite frankly was one of the more idiotic criticisms I heard of him. He is not a running QB, he just happens to be a QB with a great skill set that can also run very fast, 4.4 fast! And while time will ultimately tell for this apparent prodigy, the future certainly looks bright in Nashville.

+Frates Legend I've been a Packers fan since Lombardi. Being a UO alum, I think Mariota has tremendous potential. What scares me is that Mariota isn't Aaron Rogers... yet. Remember, Rogers spent a number of seasons as back up learning from Brett.

+DOOMED ! I think this is the new generation of NFL QB's. I see an improvement in Kapernicks (dual threat) throw first, run second approach in the game against the Vikes and more NFL teams seem to be incorporating more option reads and other spread type schemes more often than before. If done right, many of these NFL teams know it can be a game changer.

I think as long as Mariota stays humble and keeps believing he can get better, he can easily become a really good NFL QB. It's good they took him out early and ran instead of letting him throw the 5th TD. That kind of debut could mess with anyone's head.
Mariota is not that type of person to get big-headed. Whether he throws a pick or a TD, whether he wins or loses. He has pretty much the same demeanor either way.
