@@AmishdoinksOG I've still got the WRX, I bought it new in 2002. The new Tacoma replaced a 2005 Taco that I wrecked ( I took a long, slow slide off a snowy mountain road into a tree)
I like the new Stinger Radio. If you do wind up towing with it and your worried about the squat, you can always go with Firestone Helper Spring Kit for the Tacoma. I love seeing the progress on this project.
I did the Bilstien 6112 kit on my wife's 19 4runner and we love it so far. They are even beefier than the 5100 over stock. Then mounted some 285-70--17's falken AT3's on Methods. Black on black on black baby haha
@Smeedia beautiful but my kit was adjustable. I did 2" level. I do need to lift my rear maybe a 1" to make it perfect. My kit only came with the front leveling stuff... rear is easy and cheaper will do soon it soon. It's not bad enough that I felt we had to do it right away haha.
Love this new content as I will be taking notes on what you do with your taco. I want to soon do some mods on mine as well. Glad you weren’t the type that immediately wanted a lift kit killing their MPG and stressing Luther chasis more. 5100’s and bigger tires will do the trick. Still deciding whether 265/75/16 or 265/70/17
I’m looking to put 255/85R16 tires on my ‘23 Tacoma TRD OR so I don’t have to lift and chop, and get a 33.1” tire that won’t rub. The only Load C I found are the Falken Wildpeak AT4W’s.
I did a deaver add-a-leaf in the rear, with a Westcott Designs spring collar perch + 0.5" spacer. I think it cost me $400 in parts and I did the labor myself. 1.5" in the rear and 2.5" in the front. Sits fairly level with a bit of rake, which I prefer since I use the bed quite a bit.
@@Smeedia I've been contemplating bilsteins like yours or Dobinsons, once my struts wear out. I'm not offroading as much as I thought, so daily comfort is preferred. Breaking parts every other weekend was getting to be too costly for me.
Ive installed fox 3.0 with external resevoirs and let me tell you, its the best thing youll ever feel. Like a cadillac but off road. And street feels plush
If you go with the wheel and tire setup you want you will need to chop the cab and cut your liner. I would recommend a good aftermarket UCA and offroad alignment. I have a 2022 TRD OR with 17 inch -10 offset. What fixed the rub is cab mount chop, C4 high clearance fender liner, some minor tweaking of the pinch weld and accutune uca with alignment. Offroad with this setup, though, is perfect. It went over everything. I worry if you stressed it, though with the 285s it would probably snap axles. I also run a C4 hybrid front bumper and the Westcott lift. The poke and look is perfect. To be honest, though, I am probably gonna go down to a 265 in the future. The 285s are amazing looking but the drivability on the stock trans is horrendous as soon as you put the truck under any load including hills. Even with an OTT tune it wasnt that much better. I put 5.29 gears and the drive is better but the problem is the load range of the tires. Your unsprung mass shoots up like double with most 285s (45 lbs stock to like 80 lbs). It makes the truck look amazing but your MPGs will go from bad to worse. The throttle response is atrocious (never used a pedal commander). I think an ideal setup for drivability is 265s with 4.88 (more ideal) or 5.29 with a tune. I plan on running 265s for street use and then 35 inch tires for offroad since the truck is ready for them, just won't be able to run a wheel with negative offset unless I relocated the cab mount further back and absolutely smashed the pinch welds. Nice to see the taco though!
Thank you for this! I haven’t bought the tires yet (wheels are already on way). I’ll look at 265s then. I have a pedal commander on the way for it too, but always felt like they were kinda of gimmicky so curious to see if and how much of an actual difference it does make. In the future I don’t mind having to do a cab chop or anything like that. But for getting started something I’ll hold off on for now 😅
@@Smeediaone thing that’s beneficial is knowing how to weld. The cab mount is def an easy DIY for you. Relocation is a little more difficult? But you have the lift. I don’t want to do that. Just compare the load ranges on the tires. I think most 285s are “E”. The ride is harsher even if you drop the PSI. I run Wildpeaks. They’re great offroad. Tire rack was great at advising over the KO2s. Totally up to you especially if you’re going the all terrain route. But check the tire weights. If you wanna do gear research check out ECGS. Very easy swap/installs. I’ve towed a corvette and GD STi in a U-Haul trailer when my truck was stock and the motor does not have the torque. Tacomas do well on flat ground. When you add hills the motor and gearbox struggles. To get the thing to downshift you gotta punch it. Luckily if you want a square stance/poke the -10 offset will get you there. I think that’s a great wheel for look. I have almost all the same vehicles as you so we’re on the same path 😂.
Most call those bolts excentric. Though I believe they are concentric as well, sharing the same centerline. Add a set of helper bags if you want to eliminate squat. You can even set those up manual, using an air chuck, if you want to save money. Also, I'd leave the drum rears, personally. Your rear brakes only provide 15% of total braking anyways and the drums make a very good park brake as long as everything is set up correctly.
looking forward to see what the wheels and tire look like on there I wanted to level mine with this kit, and throw on 265 75 16 with 1” spacer on stock wheels and was hoping this would help it not rub
Tanner! You should looking into buying a bucket of fluid film and applying it all to your frame, bolts, inside of your frame, body panels, rocker panels, blah blah blah. It will keep that thing preserved!
5100’s are the holy bible of easy mod to stay with instead of investing into lift kits and all that good stuff. This is definitely my plan these shocks with a bit bigger tires and I’m set. Stock Toyota’s are off road capable
Nice man! I have the Westcott Designs for my '19 Tacoma Pro but never installed it. Just loved the OEM Fox Suspension. Wonder how the Westcott Designs would have looked on yours. Taco Tuesday is a must on this channel. Thanks dude!
Correct me if I’m wrong but on every Toyota I’ve worked on (being a Toyota tech) are there not 2 nuts and a bolt you can take off to separate the LCA and ball joint on the front? It’s much easier and faster in my opinion but everyone works differently
6112 Bilstein a bit nicer yet more expensive. 5100s are like the analogy of cutting three trees that are threatening your house instead of cutting all five of them down might as well just go for the 6112s instead of copping out for the 5100s.
