For those who know me also know how much I love combination locks. So I was very excited to receive this cool BRINKS lock from William. It has false gates and is susceptible to the method of testing the wheel resistance to distinguish true from false gates. What an exciting packages - thanks a lot to William again
Yeah, but that's not actually the method to open this. Rather than resistance, or how far th shacke moves: 1. Set to 0000 and find whether each wheel has its gates on odd or even. Binary is an easy way to remember. 2. Feel for the gate with widest loose range, not the tension.
Really glad this video is still up, just got the lock and messed up the code I wanted, forgot it and thought I had a dud, watched the vid and picked it to get the code. Thank you, it was a great tutorial and help.
Cool, I got it! Found an old one of these of my dad's (he recently passed away). I don't even know what a gate is, true or false, but was able to determine the tightest wheel to start with. After lubing up the lock with some graphite and playing with it, I was able to get that one to "click". I couldnt decide between two of the other wheels which one was tightest, but picked one, and it seemed not to want to move from the number it was already on. Then I noticed those were the last two digits of a PIN he commonly used. Sure enough, his PIN was the combination.
I’m at the gym rn. Haven’t used my lock in a WHILE. And I was about to be stuck here trying to get into my locker until I found this video! Got my lock open in the first try! Somehow the combination changed🤷🏽♀️ Thank you for this video
I want to thank you so much for this!! My son forgot his combo for his lock (same kind as in this video), and thanks to your guidance, I was able to open the lock!! Thanks again!! ❤
Thanks for this video! We found one of these locks while cleaning out my husband's grandma's storage unit. I've never decoded a lock before. Your video made it super easy. Only took me like 10 minutes. Thanks again!
I have one of these left over from my school days and could never remember the code, but kept it incase I got bored. I followed along and did it tonight!
I’ve had this same lock for years and never knew the combination. I stumbled on your video to see if I could figure it out and I kid you not, as I was watching you and I was working the lock as well, it unlocked the same time yours did!! Crazy! Awesome video man thanks!
Just bought this exact lock and accidentally set the wrong code so the lock was stuck in the backwards position with this video it only took me a few minutes to actually pick it open appreciate the help man!
Thank you so much!!!! My cousin has a freezer full of goodies that he locked with this lock. He told me I could eat as much as I want if I could open it. After much frustration and watching this video over and over, I finally did it!!! It only took me about 15 min! Yumminess here I come!
This video is so good. My lock got stuck in the reset combo position and I couldnt get it open. Now I have fixed this problem and also learned how to open this lock I have had my sister randomize it about 5 times and Ive been getting faster at it everytime.
With so many saying they were successful, I wonder what I am not doing correctly. 🤔 @Potti314, I am not so clear on if when in turning a digit arrived at is loose it is a sign that that is the correct digit of the code sequence, or when it gets stiff? And are you pulling on the lock's loop while turning each wheel, or pushing, or neither? Seem like I may need mail you mine, too, as it has been locked open for years now.
Keep pulling the shackel ( I tied a piece of rope on it in order to make easier to pull and tensioning it) go for the stiffer one first, pull & release turning numbers one by one feeling when clicks, then go for the next one and so on. Good luck.
so funny. had not used in 2 years and forgot. Tried all the usual. First stree address number. first phone number. And so on. Ready to quit. Ten minutes your method with eyes closed and it pops open. I look at number -- last three digits of my birth year! The thing about these locks is you hate to throw them jout and it also feels like apuzzle. So glad to learn this trick!!!
Thank you man you are awesome. I somehow managed to accidentally change one of the numbers on the combination for a three-digit brinks lock very similar to this one in your video. After searching your video was the first one I watched and within 10-minutes bingo I had my lock open and cannot reset it to a new PIN.
I have the same BRINKS lock but when I tried to change the combination the shackle stayed in the pressed in position and I cannot pull it out. Not it is unusable because it is locked in the change combo position. Any Ideas on how to fix it?
Thanks for the information but however I will like to know how to get the right combination of an already opened lock which is open but I have forgotten the right combination so I cannot use it! Thanks.
Thank you! I just bought. When I tried to set my personal combination got stuck with the shackle in the opposite way. 🤦♀️I followed your instructions and now it's working. I thought I was going to buy a new one.
You are amazing Potti. I tried the shackle pull method, but obviously I didn't know what I was doing. 😂 Then I watched RUclips videos on opening this lock, and they said stick a Bobby Pin down the Shackle. ( That is why I put 2 Bobby Pins on the package) That didn't work either. I'm glad you got it open, and had fun. I knew you would be able to figure that one out. Great job quickly figuring it out. 👏👍
Thank you again William. The booby pins will go to my wife ;-) It's a fun lock and I had a long learning curve with other lock until I became used false-gate-detection. It was a great pleasure for me to play with this lock.
Potti314 Glad you liked it my friend. If I run into any more interesting combination locks, I will send them your way. I'm also on the look out for animal themed Padlock's for your zoo collection.
Your enthusiasm in success is awesome. Trying the same exact lock right now. Came here to try to figure out how. My very first attempt today. Wish me success ! It is really binding and will not turn with pressure pulling on it like you did with the carabiner. I'm going to keep working on it. Danke guter Deutscher Freund !
I need help with an ace 4 digit combo lock, I've tried doing the paperclip trick and this trick. I don't have much experience but I would love if you could give me some tips!
Hi sir, i have a 4 digit padlock, the problem was, i can't lock its shackle to a normal lock, it is like lock on the outside (yes i can move 90° its shackle but it is like lock outside) i can't explained well sorry but thats what its look like, hoping for a solution
Does this work in reverse? A friend of mine locked the lock by accident while changing the combo. He let of pressure and isn’t sure what code it was on when he did.
I think this is the same problem I have, actually, @jeremyholland4527. Mine efforts did not work, but perhaps I am missing something with regard to the steps demonstrated.
@@fiery.mercaba I was able to crack mine fairly easily by just playing around with it. Keep it slightly tension and rotate through all all 4 wheels until each one stops. Sometimes it will get hung up on a false gate. Go through it several times and let me know if you’re able to crack it. Good luck!
i have a lock somone at work accidently closed and doesn't know the pin to. I've sat at my desk trying to open by burte forcing and seem to have tried over the number of possible combos.. so i followed this video, tried this and whilst some of the numbers are binding the shackle will not release. if i turn some numbers it turns the other wheels.. =(
I have a video about a lock in the open state ruclips.net/video/kAlBM6UdOjM/видео.html Not sure if it helps as the wheels of my lock weren't stuck in the open state. Can you turn the shackle around and see if the wheels come loose at some angle.
I would try resetting the combo? If its open move the shackle 180 (shown in thumbnail ), push down then move 90 degrees to the left then reset combo and reverse order
@@imkwyl_jr I have tried that. The shackle won't go down as it should and all the wheels are locked solid. I guess something inside failed and locked up the lock. I have been working on this stupid lock for about 20 minutes. When I try this with my lock, they just don't turn, that or they will turn and click, then they won't move, but the lock doesn't open.
I'm sorry to hear that you have trouble with your lock. What you describe is the feedback from false gates. The true gates have a little more play than the false gates. But it can also be that you did not find the a gate yet, if it does not move at all under tension. Check my decoding playlist if you are interested. If you don't have fun decoding the lock, throw it away and buy a new one. It shall be enjoyable to play and decode and not a real pain. But if you need more help, please let me know.
I've noticed this with some locks, and sometimes they actually get easier to decode and sometimes harder ... for this one I haven't played with it enough to notice yet ... or I haven't paid attention - as I say, I'm not as methodical as you. :D It must be because we are causing wear in the wheels & gates (making false gates larger??) ... maybe it doesn't happen on the abus ones as much because it's not as cheaply made and uses stronger material?
Hello! You are good at this. I've been practicing quite a bit with the exact same lock in video, no luck at all! All my wheels bind, no loose wheels to work with. My question is: on a scale from 1 through 10, how much pressure are you applying to the shackle when pulling? BTW, I have successfully decoded Brinks model 165 with ease, but this 161 has the false gates. Help!
Thank you very much. I believe that it more like a 3 (on your scale) - but I never have managed to pull that hard that the wheels cannot be turned anymore. If you know the combination, then have all except one wheel right and feel what kind of feedback you get from the remaining wheel (to learn from). Good luck.
Unfortunately I don't have the combination, I've been hitting every false gate on each turn or two, mostly on the even numbers 02468 and the shackle gives and retracts on each turn. I feel defeated by the lock
If you feel the gates that's great. Pull on the shackle and test every wheel for it's play, try to find the one with the least play and turn it to the next gate. Then test all wheels again. Sooner or later it will open. Don't feel defeated. I have a combination bike lock that has a lot of additional security features and it is very hard to feel the gates. It's like an ongoing challenge for me to improve my skills - I love it. Think about the same for your Brink.

Wow! I just tried this for the first time on a discarded Brinks and got it. Looks like the first two wheels can be off by one on either side and it still opens. edit - Reset and the play on the first two wheels is fixed.

I do have 4 wheel combination and no wheel gives resistance. I can turn them all when I pull it. How to determine the code?
Maybe pull harder. But maybe your lock cannot be tensioned with the shackle. What lock is it?
I have the same problem, it is a Wordlock (brand) Wordlock
I must be doing something wrong...been at it for an hour...with no luck....
It takes a while to learn the feedback. Maybe start with an easier lock that has no false gates.
Okay mine clicks on any piece moving so this doesn't work
Thank you so much!
Please don't link to a time stamp with a URL. You can just type it out like this: 1:26 and it automatically becomes clickable
Thanks for the hit - just fixed it.
:)
I have the identical lock but its locked in the open position. Will this method still work?
My lock unlocked and won’t move! I think I accidentally set a code I didn’t mean to set while messing with it
Can you try this ruclips.net/video/kAlBM6UdOjM/видео.html ?
My wheels all have a lot of resistance; I cannot move them at all if I pull on the shackle.
Try pulling less hard and move the wheels one position further without tension. Play with your lock to understand it better.
Got mine opened, the combo was 777 lol i think i had it set to that so i wouldn’t forget 😂
At least the code was not 666 ;-)
Have the same lock and all the wheels turn freely when pulling on the shackle they all turn with ease
Try pulling harder and check the nose of the shackle at the ring, maybe the ring had turned and the little nose is no longer allinged.
Good job Mr Potti. I have a Lockwood combo like that with your name on it.🍺😉✌

Spray WD40 in it first, so that it can be manipulated more easily.
yes i got my lock open! and that before you got that lock open. I where really suprised and my number where 1307 and from abus 4 digit.
Thanks for the feedback - glad you had success.
Wow! I just tried this for the first time on a discarded Brinks and got it. Looks like the first two wheels can be off by one on either side and it still opens.
edit - Reset and the play on the first two wheels is fixed.
Thanks for watching. Glad you got it open. Yeah, tolerances are getting loose on worn out locks.
Thank you.
My pleasure :-)

Awesome. It sounded like you shot up off your chair when you got it! Maybe use a seatbelt? :) :)
Haha, yes I was really thrilled - will think about safety precautions for the next package ;-)
